Part of why I care so deeply about this is because a classmate of mine in high school was a star football player. He suffered a massive, massive fucking brain injury. For those who don't have experience with people who've had TBIs, it frequently can cause increased levels of aggression. This classmate of mine had a really "promising career" ahead of him as a football player. But after his injury he became increasingly aggressive and this eventually culminated in him murdering his mother. It was a tragic thing and its roots can be traced back to the myth that football is safe.

It's not even just that the brain injuries are segregated. Black men are overrepresented in football by comparison to overall American demographic data, BUT white players are more likely to be playing positions where TBIs are rarer. They literally put the Black players in the more dangerous positions on purpose.
