Oh my gosh hi!! What kind of museum do you work in?

I wanna go to more museums because I haven’t been since I was a little kid, but I don’t like going places by myself and I live in the middle of nowhere so it’s really far to get anywhere. I’m based in the US so if you have any recommendations on like must visit places lmk!!

I love learning so I spend a lot of time in libraries, but museums are so cool and just wells of knowledge

I love talking about museums and libraries so love this!!!!

Ive been in historic house museums for the past 4 years and I worked in special collections in undergrad. My last house we focused on a lot of aspects of it, but primarily the family who lived there, but my current house is very architecture forward which I do not care about in the least. But gotta give tours so we care about what we must.

My biggest museum advice is to not underestimate the little places. Everyone always recommends the really big nice places and they usually are very big and nice, but those little historic houses or small subject specific museums really will surprise you.

I'm Midwest based so most of my recs are there (im a bit of a plane hater tbh):

Chicago's field has a messy past (and also present if we're being so real and true) but their collections are wild lots of taxidermy

I went to the Inuit in Chicago recently - all outsider art, very cool

SLAM in St. Louis - small enough city that you aren't overcrowded, but world class collections (also free and next to the stl zoo which is free and also very very nice)

Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta - very good Muppets collection and they had a room space for current artist exhibition - I can't remember the specifics of what was running when I was there, but it ruled

Tenement Museum in NYC, I really wish I could have stayed longer - they have like a bunch of units set to different periods and talk through a lot of different histories; very unique set up

Oh Finster's Garden outside Atlanta - more outsider art - honestly almost more of an experience tbh, fun to walk through

And this one is really more an experience than a museum, but House on the Rock in Spring Green, Wisconsin I can't explain this but like its wild look it up - also right next to taleisin if you're into frank lloyd wright - I haven't been bc expensive but I've heard good things.

So I had to deal with this personally, things really can be more fun with other people, but get used to taking yourself out! It sucks at first and can be scary, but missing out on stuff because you couldn't find someone to go with you sucks worse! And theres so many concerts, museums, shows, and various events that I've been to solo that I never would have gone too if I hadn't decided to take myself out. And its so funny because everytime someone is like oh its so brave to come alone, but I'd rather come alone than not come at all and getting used to going solo has really helped me expand my horizons and become more confident with myself.

Guys how do people store their spices - in fic if you want to establish someone as anal you say they store them alphabetically - but like that makes sense how else are you gonna find them quickly other than like by frequency of use (which also makes sense if ur that style) are people just out here tossing spices left and right just randomly put on the rack? You gotta scour the whole rack everytime you want something???? This seems inefficient and annoying

ive just seen the american psycho characters drawn as my little ponies and honestly i dont think patrick should have been given that cd as his cutie mark. i think you're doing it wrong if you're not making him a perpetual blank flank

look if you're gonna draw characters as my little ponies you have to remember that the cutie mark can't just be any old imagery you associate with them. it has to be Representative. it's their Unique Characteristic. to quote the pony wiki page i just googled, "Twilight and Applejack point out in Call of the Cutie how lacking a mark means that ponies still get to experience 'the thrill of discovering who they are and what they're meant to be'." there's narrative shit going on here there's Themes. and patrick bateman is NOT unique. he has NOT discovered who he is or what he's meant to be. the end monologue of the book is literally about how he has absolutely nothing going for him in this regard & is simply a vacant, hollow person merely vacuously gesturing at the idea of having depth. and when he rants about music, that's what he's doing there, too. his lyrical analysis is shallow/vaguely inaccurate summaries at best and completely warped at worst. everything he has to say about music--and in general--is intensely fixated on commodities and on appearing normal and intelligent while being entirely devoid of any intelligent or individual thought. so no, his cutie mark is not music. mr "missing that hip to be square is about making fun of conformist squares & proudly proclaiming that its actually about how fucking Awesome it is to be conformist and consumerist" does NOT have a fucking cd cutie mark. He's a blank flank. He has no unique identity. There is no future for him. There is no self identity. He's a fucking blank flank. okay? sorry i got a little passionate about this. there is no exit and he has no cutie mark

ok now this is important intellectual discussion about the subject. i agree i was personally imagining him like. always having it covered with pants or something. but he would have a fake cutie mark. he would totally get a fake cutie mark tattooed or something in my little american psycho world. in fanart however if this cannot be briefly conveyed then i think for the sake of clarity with regards to his character it needs to be blank. just so its clear he doesnt have one
