The comments on this are really making me understand there’s so many people who ignore how racism is native to the entire United States and not just the portion of it most directly impacted by the transatlantic slave trade
the north was mainly manufacturing cotton from southern plantations and turning it into workable textiles.
because they didn't "own" people, they get heralded as being morally superior. however, they were complicit by using materials unethically sourced and stayed quiet when the south abused and murdered millions of people.
the civil war was never about seeing Black people as worthy of autonomy and liberation. it was started because the south wanted to use them to bulk up voting numbers, and the north didn't want that.
both created harm. one through outward, personal violence and the other through their complicit silence.
sound familiar?
