Condensing the original down because it was getting crazy-long and Extras will be going for a long time to come. Which means if I don’t? It’s only gonna get bigger and crazier. That said I am also doing like I did with the platovember master list/update post and adding Universe/Door numbers and parts where it applies: and a read more cut to this main post specifically so it doesn’t get too stupid long with the updates in the future.

1. Dappled [Vestibule 1: Door/Universe 6] (pt 2 from platovember) - Confused after Hydra's exposure and surviving the helicarrier crash, Bucky Barnes finds himself company familiar enough to both sides of his mind to keep him wary of his new 'friend'. Having been the resulting price of failure where Hydra is concerned; his options boil down to staying with Loki: or going it on his own...

2. Just One More - GROUNDED OT [Vestibule 1 Universe/Door 8] - Teasing turns to something else when Tony doesn't get his way. Loki (Loke) and Tony (Charmer) spending time in Asgard during his recovery after the dock scene in GROUNDED.

3. Kindred [Vestibule 1 Door/Universe 3] (pt 1)- Bruce is among those 'visiting' Loki after the Bifrost is repaired, after giving Tony's paranoia a little nudge to find a way to get a hold of Thor to do so. The conversations are fairly 'normal' when more than one of the others are present. Bruce is starting to lose his patience with the lot he brought with him though. Not that he was given much of a choice.

Meanwhile, his personal interactions with the Trickster? Are... almost unsettling in how calming and unfettered they are by comparison to his interactions with others since his accident, questions aside. To the point that, Banner wants getting his answers underway; but isn't willing to push -too- much rush to them once that's accomplished...

4. Mixed Signals [Vestibule 1 Universe/Door 1] (pt 2 from platovember) - When stubborn and distrustful, meets stubborn and distrustful? It makes filling in the gaps a difficult thing. Nearly a week after leaving his throne behind to step between Tony Stark and Bucky Barnes: if Loki is actually going to keep good on another of his ass-backwards bets? Tony wants to make good use of it.

'To the Dick on the Throne;

I fucking hate Odin. I do.

There, that's my one-liner to match yours. You're right, on a lot of things you said. Including the bit about not being able to save everyone. But.. it's the wish, and the drive that keeps us in that place where we can keep trying to from one day to the next. The need to be for others what no one would or could be for us, in some cases: and that does count for mine. That drive, isn't so rare as a lot of people want to pretend it is. Okay; and maybe that isn't entirely true at our level? But it remains true at it's core for most. It isn't just a human, or Asgardian thing either.

And before you start snarking and putting your smirk on, dear Richard; let me point this out: you proved that. You proved that, unknowingly or otherwise; for thousands of years, way before I was even born. No matter what the foster-cyclops-goat told you or not, I can say now with certainty that you had the capability to walk away and still have that drive; enough that you didn't use it and bail even when you could. That you're there, and taking care of the business of rebuilding outside of the palace he prioritized and more.

Don't think I didn't notice that on that last visit, either; to help me see it just as clearly as all the other opportunities confirmed that you've admitted to and they've admitted to, and I've seen and stood next to you with and for since; regardless of the discomfort and costs to get through it like the ones at that conference table with the guys and after to see it through and be able to give me that advice.

Bruce said it when he walked in on that argument after, didn't he? And I am glad I didn't interrupt him to hear him say it. That yes, you've made mistakes and yes there are consequences; but you came back and stayed and offered the help you thought you could from where and what we were when the option was given, instead of noping out. And that does count for something. That does say a lot, all on it's own; and as much as I hate you not being here: I'll say it, I'm proud to be able to see you still following through even with Asgard, even when on the personal at the very least? They don't deserve that gift, least of all from you.

But and getting back into the heart of the one thing I should've said next to the answer I didn't get to give you and can't bring myself to without having you here, starts with the fact that maybe there were expectations. Maybe there were unrealistic goals set. Definitely, there were promises made and basic contracts in the title and responsibility that comes with the word family, and father, and brother that were broken too. But in the end, you and I both were the ones to decide whether or not the actions asked of us were worthy of being taken when they weren't, and we took them. It took me getting a fist sized electro-magnet installed in my chest to keep the knots of shrapnel from my own ordinance from killing me while being held hostage purely to make more weapons to kill more people to finally, really meet that standard: but I did it.

And Odin is no holds barred a shitty person never mind a father or King, but maybe just maybe; he's the shrapnel in your chest you needed to go even further and find this family. Because let me make this very clear to you; I may have stomped my foot down in that door for us to keep it open, yeah?

But you're the one who pried off the bars, and picked the lock, and kicked it open after the Avengers Initiative was all but trashed. You pushed us, before and after. All mean gentility and throttling us into laughing, full of things more honest in intent than most people I've met manage to be about their every day for fucks sake; and yes you pushed that door open, for me to manage to land my foot here; and called it out to make us see it. That was you, not me. As far as I'm concerned sir, I just held the door for you while the others walked in complaining about how they got there half determined not to recognize it for the sakes of their own pride.

And I'm grateful, for the opportunity you didn't have to give; to be able to see and stop that idea in my own head and heart a lot sooner than I think would have been possible if not for that one measly drink, and that first shitty game of chess you let me in to play with you a year later. '

Someone asked me about this entry and it's era in GROUNDED recently, so; here it is. Neither tumblr or a hone do the formatting any justice, but eh. It is what it is. Yes, this here is only one part of one of the two letters featured early in while Loki was on Asgard's throne in their universe.

Among the many things I felt I had to cut from the long-fic chapters between 2013 and the events of Civil War picked up as they were in their version of 2016. More bitter-sweet than you might realize if you've read up to current on that book.

Anyways, enjoy either way. Though I do suggest reading GROUNDED (and a few of the platovember prompts and Extras scattered into those series that have been likewise cut) to understand the details? The most basic summary is there to read from Letters of Two if you want.

39. Coin Toss

[Vestibule 2 : Universe/Door 9]

In another Universe where Natasha switched places with Clint in twenty ten/eleven; the change in roster, also changes some of the outcomes. Going head to head with Thor in his weakened but deranged state didn’t end without it’s bruises: but it did end with more than a few extra questions, after her –and their– fight with the big blond intruder was cut just short of may be Nat needing a gurney and maybe a trip to the hospital rather than just a little disinfectant and some salve. Which, would be fine mostly; if anybody but Masters remembered the agent who stepped in out of nowhere to manage putting the big guy face down in the mud…

Homework

2012 is the almost the same as you remember it. Almost. With the homework SHIELD and Pepper gave him well and under Tony’s belt, and Loki too easily picked up from Stuttgart: Stark finds himself distracted by the picking ‘hows’ behind Loki’s thus far very contained 'invasion’… and even more so after what little his apparent adopted brother does and doesn’t have to say, once aboard the carrier. Maybe it’s because he was one of the only members to actually do all that homework rather than skim it: but Tony and eventually Bruce, can’t help the itching feeling there is a lot more going on, and Asgard itself might be a lot more involved if not responsible for their current situation, than Thor seems to want anyone to question… why is that? They have to work more time to ask those questions, first though.. SHIELD is close on their butts; and Thor isn’t likely to be far behind. (part 1)

Music Share (Writing in Progress)

For those that might not know who are new to following me; I’m heavily inspired by music and lyrics: and so are the muses. I wanted to explain why this is important; and ah.. it’ll take a little to explain.

Fun fact, in fact: many of if not all the pieces I write and have written have either a playlist, or a specific starting theme song that gives me the feel of how the characters are feeling if not say it outright in places. I say starting, because as their relationships and situations change, so does their tone: and the tracks switch as a result.

DREAMS actually kind of mentions this a little in, when Loki (Laufeyson) has his brief rant about music being the hearts-beat of life at Thor and mentions the sound track of his life, and .. unintentionally forcing Thunderbritches to look inward, and realize he’s been repeating the same song in his life over and again.

Anyways, that aside, it’s rare for a Door and it’s muses to claim a song outright immediately; but the ones who do have a very strong set of voices. Door/Universe 5 is one that’s even rarer; Slipskin, Gin and Wolkfin have a quad of songs they’ve latched onto, including ‘Dream a Little Dream’ as performed by Doris Day that was represented in ‘Dream’ for the platovember prompts.

The Lokiverse at current, has a playlist consisting of 408 songs (and some different renditions) and AMVs, and is still growing. Mostly because I am always looking for and listening for a song, set of lyrics, or emotion behind them that helps us tell their story.

Which, is part of the reason I decided to start sharing these. And why the muse DJ Pete (Lilybrin, D10) points out who they’re for.

DJ Pete: Which is where I step in and tell you to turn up the volume folks. This one is for Universe/Door 4; and the Cosmic-Frostiron trio over there, who you guys first got to see in the Lokiverse Extra ‘Called Out’. That’s right, those boys are at the table again.

Laufeyson (Loki D10:) You might remember if you’ve been reading, where they left us off? This song puts out what Grip, my mirror in that door is feeling in the next segment they’re putting to word.

Lisan (Loki D12:) As I understand it, the questions in the lyrics of the first song are what resonate with him best at this stage; especially concerning trust. Some of these songs are very personal for us. And.. this is one of those for him, Poppet and Tinker.

Viedimadr (Clint D10) chuckling a bit and explaining: Side note for the newish followers who might get confused by those names: Poppet and Tinker are the monikers we call their Stephen and Tony by. Being part of a conjoined set of universes and or multiverse with a council of Lokis at the center? Each of which have their own versions of what’s usually the same people? It’s kind of a necessary thing here in Lokiverse.

DJ Pete: ANYWAYS GUYS! All that explained? MUSIC! This one .. got some serious emotion behind it, a lot of stuff that like other Lokis.. Grip keeps down low. He picked out a cover of one of Sasha Sloan’s songs for this one.

DJ Pete: This next one’s another cover, if even more unique? Rather than being backed by a band, this one is a cover with one of the typist’s favorite instruments, the Kalimba. April’s voice on this track is a perfect match.

The Kalimba is one of my favorite instruments because of it’s unique sound.. more often than not, it ends up sounding like a pre-plastic record. I say pre-plastic because and little known to most these days; prior to vinyl, records as we know them were actually a thing: but! They were recorded on similar round metal plates instead. Early gramophones used these metal disks rather than the cylinders developed later to play music very much in the same way that music boxes did after; but! With much longer play times. If I remember correctly, many of the old records were made out of thin brass..?

In any case, the Kalimba manages to capture that sound.. or, maybe it’s the other way around? lol either way; it’s a very distinct, enchanting sound to me. Something that reminds me of when I was a kid almost, sneaking into my grandma’s room to open and listen to her ballerina music box.

There’s a certain emotion that Kalimba manage taht I can’t quite describe without going on even longer, but. You’ll see what I mean if you listen.

Question about medical care in Asgard… I'm talking about a case of Odinsleep/coma. How different do you think caring for a person in a coma would be on Asgard than on Midgard?

Gonna assume you're asking about the MCU as I answer this! 💚

With a Coma/Odinsleep .. Probably not too terribly different in act for the most part IF it's being treated like a regular coma; but incredibly different in aesthetic, and well.. it does get a little more iffy when you're talking about 'Odinsleep' in particular, even with what little we do know from what's shown and said about it on screen which I say by means of examples given, both canon and deleted from it.

Some things definitely do change if you take deleted scenes from Thor 2011 into account in particular though: as one of the things they removed entirely from existence in the cutting room in that movie, was something called 'healing stones.' They actually had two portions of scenes that they shot (one in the hospital after Jane ran him over, and one just prior to the final portion of the fight with the 'Destroyer' in New Mexico.) I'll slap them in here if I can find them out of my giant clips playlist of doom.

Sticking with just the canon though; and specifically with the regular coma treatment first? The first thing you have to take into account is that there are lots of different kinds of comas, and that even Earth-tech wise, some of them are going to be treated a little differently (short, long term, caused by external injury, caused by internal injury, trauma induced are a thing too.)

That said, the first thing we have on display as far as Asgard's medical goes, is something that unsurprisingly is a repeated major portion of their basic lore in the MCU: that they aren't gods; they're an elder race who have been themselves reaching into the cosmos for eons of generations even stretching back to at least near enough to the beginning of their universe well established enough then, to take note of the fact that the Infinity Stones made at the birth of that universe, were not made by either them, or by the other elder races like the Dark Elves, or the even older Tivan brothers: with single generations lasting as long as five thousand years.

Related to that is also the fact that they by the time in their universal timeline we do catch up with them: they are very clearly a warmongering/imperial colonialist society. Even before and likely during them, Odin made a generation of wars horrible enough to be called 'The Great Wars' among the lot that he and apparently Hela (who was clearly full grown --meaning she was anywhere between 20ish and 1000 years herself-- even in her mural depictions,) to spread his version of 'peace' through the removal of what other species he percieved as threats and competition (see Muspelheim, Jotunheim) going so far as to make certain they couldn't rebuild even their capitals.

Why is that important in this conversation? Because that also means including Bor and Asgard's previous generation five thousand years prior to 2013's invasion of the elves; they had been dealing with injury, illness and more among their own resulting from those battles: and yes during those thousands of years of conflict between Bor's crusade, and Odin's: they had lots and lots of extra time to improve both their tech, and any magic along those lines.

Which yes are actually two very different things, though from the looks of it are often interconnected in Asgardian society in particular, unlike on Earth; where medical technology is foremost, and sorcery/magic has been forced basically into hiding by centuries of the many different flavors (both in religion base and name) of Inquisitions on Earth over the course of over a millennia by the time the twenty tens roll around. We also know that they do posses some limited means through technology, of suppressing some magic; but whether or not Asgard in particular has evolved their understanding of sorcery in particular to do so on a magical level is questionable at best given what we've seen between the first two films alone.

Given the blatantly similar societal distaste for most non-combative magic, and even a good portion of combative magic for that matter that's pretty likely not the case: even Thor refers to his mother's skills and knowledge as "tricks." However, that doesn't seem to apply where the "Healer's Hall" inhabitants and actual healers are involved.

Most obvious example of technological vs magic, and those limitations I mentioned above that we have is a pair of scenes in TDW: the Soul Forge in the Healer's Hall vs. Loki's full-room illusions.

This is also, one of the scenes that continues to show rather than tell, the MCU established facts of their advancement.. and their arrogance around it when dealing with what Asgardians otherwise clearly still consider 'lesser' races under their protection. Quite a contrast to Loki's interactions with Selvig and Barton delivering those two a great deal more dignity and trust in A1 too, while they're building the portal device ...but that's a whole other set of attached social observations and comparisons I'm not gonna get into here. The point of this one is: if there's magic there; they're making it very clear there isn't much of it, and doubling down on that whole 'not gods, only mistaken for them' far more interesting take, on which MCU Asgard was built since the very first movie. (again though, it also displays their arrogance in that direction, as Eir not only treats Jane's inquiry very dismissively; but gets flustered and gap-mouthed [literally] when she positively identifies the diagnostic technology being used. It also is one of the many displays of how differing etymology between cultures in the MCU [yes there are a few, including the Dr. Strange film as another major example of that in particular] is a purposely crafted thing.)

ANYWAY!

Compare that technological, with the feats of sorcery Loki manages in that same film. Not only does he not use tech to manage his magic/sorcery (or 'tricks' as Thor calls it lol).. but he does so behind the locked door of, that same level of technology, in his own prison cell.. and beyond it. While some of the deleted scenes show this too? The final cut certainly wasn't lacking either.

So, all that said..? And without dipping into the whole discarded-from-canon 'Healing Stone' facet: it's very likely with a normal (or normal-ish lol) coma, that it wouldn't really be that different: just easier to some extent and probably a lot faster to correct any issues with those caused by injury in particular.

However! And most important:

Odinsleep, is something else entirely.

From the first film, we know through dialogue that not only is 'Odinsleep' not a normal coma by any means: it's one that can, has, and with the way they talk about it: SHOULD be induced every so often in order to maintain his health.

Where do we get that and why do I say 'his' in particular?

Because..

1. It is called Odinsleep, which says outright that in the MCU either Odin is a common enough name among Asgardian elder generations to be named as such OR, that it's a practice that belongs solely to Odin in particular.

2. The conversation between Loki and Frigga tell us as much, in their conversation over Odin's bed. (PS I couldn't find the full clip immediately, so I am posting the full uncut scene [with deleted parts] instead. The part that I've marked it to (timestamp 1:06 in the video below if that doesn't work for you) is what you need to listen to most, and was part of the final cut in Thor 2011.

Though the way they cut and rearranged this scene has some of that conversation out of sequence, the information given about Odinsleep remains the same in the much shorter canon conversation.

Their conversation tells the viewer outright, that not only is that a thing he does regularly, but that it can be planned out and planned for: as they make a point of stating that it's only this time, the Odinsleep was unprepared for.. and, they have seen it enough for Loki's first words to be stating the fact he 'never gets used to seeing him like this' .. meaning? He has seen it enough times that he thinks he probably should be: but also that it's upsetting enough an experience to him, that he isn't.

You'll note that they also briefly discuss the fact that Odin had been putting the Odinsleep off. It was coming anyway and regardless .. and should have happened far sooner.

While it's not technically counted as canon on screen, there's a little more information given directly about Odinsleep in the parts cut out too, if you choose to observe and use them: as well as a more direct showing of what we already know even without that scene of how Frigga chooses to pass the throne to the only heir not currently being guilty of and banished for several counts of treason including restarting the war and disobeying the king in that bed, with Thor's invasion of Jotunheim landing him firmly on Earth with the very obviously earned traitor title.

I'll leave it up to you if you want to watch and or use any of that, and you definitely could; since it's -again- just dialogue telling the viewer what's already known simply by watching the other scenes around it in the canon cut, including and especially the throne room scene where Sif & the Warriors Three request Thor's return, regardless of not only knowing he was banished for treason.. but also having been the others to try to remind and convince him alongside Loki; to NOT commit that treason, prior to him doing it and dragging them along anyway.

All in all, through those scenes; we are given a very clear set of rules and information about Odinsleep either way. Which includes the fact that it can be a form of coma that probably should not be randomly interrupted or the subject brought out of it, where it's apparently necessary for the individual's overall health: but can also be a state in which they might spend the last of their lives.

In that, this also tells us that; there isn't a whole lot that even Asgard's greater technology, or even magic can or should do, to bring someone out of it at all.

And, from the way they do deal with their King going through it even by surprise: we know that there isn't much they can do at all beyond keeping him comfortable and as healthy as possible until the Odinsleep finishes it's course naturally... whether that results in the subject waking up, or possibly, dying.

There's no mention of anyone else going through Odinsleep.. but there's also no mention of whether or not anyone else HASN'T, either.

Either way, that scene alone does show and tell a lot more about Asgard's medical capabilities and some of their limitations too, even as a society that's been at war since before Moses (lol but true, especially counting Odin's dad before him fought the elves for what Odin himself identified as 'Eternities of bloodshed' that didn't end until almost 5k years prior,) even, when cut down to the re-arranged version put down in the film's final cut.

Ultimately, and that said?

I don't think caring for a person in Odinsleep would be different from what we see on screen.

A whole lot of trying to keep them comfortable, undisturbed, and healthy; while wondering and worrying when and especially -if- they'll even wake up.

Yes, that underlined bit is both the title and a link directly to where that long fic is posted on AO3, if you're curious how I handled it there. I suggest reading the chapters leading into that segment to understand how that portion of their multiverse got there, but if you want to skip a bit, the Odinsleep sequence itself starts in Chapter Four and ends in chapter Five, and is ultimately among the last of events before a time skip all the way into Civil War's era. It's not the only time the muses use it, but it is currently the only instance I have published.
