i love ahsoka tano but i think the fact that she's such an amazing narrative foil to luke was a complete accident on the writers' part

okay

so like at her introduction it’s pretty clear the writers were basically just saying “we needed a new character that wasn’t burdened by canon to carry this series” but when you put her in the context of the series as a whole she becomes “this is what luke missed out on by not having anakin around as a dad for better or worse” and that’s what makes her work, luke and ahsoka both have anakin and obi-wan as father figures but they’re inverted versions of each other

ahsoka's image of obi-wan is filtered through anakin's resentment

luke's image of anakin is filtered through obi-wan's regret

ahsoka sees the flaws in the jedi order that led to its collapse and that’s why she leaves

luke sees the strengths of the jedi order that are worth preserving and that’s why he tries to rebuild it

ahsoka instantly accepts that anakin is gone because she knows what led him there

luke holds onto the hope of saving him because he doesn't know how he got there

ahsoka's overall arc is about disillusionment and self-determination

luke's is about finding his place as part of something bigger

the basic details and setup are pretty similar between the two but they go in completely different directions

and yeah this all kinda falls apart when you get to live action ahsoka stuff but that's why i think everything above wasn't intended by the writers, rosario ahsoka is a fundamentally different character
