Okay but the Marauders made the biggest deal of each other’s birthdays.
Like, stupid o’clock in the morning, bouncing on each other’s beds while the birthday boy curled in on himself and tried desperately to wake up.
Come second year, Peter’s mum started to bake for them all and sent a box of cookies or cakes or something by owl. They ate those instead of going down for breakfast, and on a weekday got classes out of the way as quickly as possible so they could get to the interesting part of the day.
Weekend birthdays were the best, though (or the worst, depending on who you asked). Because they had the time to run absolute riot.
Who could forget their sixth year, when Sirius, James and Remus conspired for weeks to transfigure every piece of crockery into rats at the same time during dinner on Peter’s birthday? And the hall filled with screams as four teenage boys sat in the corner laughing hysterically.
Or the year Peter, Sirius and Remus organised fireworks over the lake for James’ birthday? And the display was awesome, doubly so when a miniature version went on later that evening in the Gryffindor common room.
It was the one day a year that any one of them felt safe from pranks (because you never prank the birthday boy, you just don’t). And they ran a gift pool, put their money together for a present rather than getting something small each.
In second year Remus’ parents started sending the others a small present on their birthdays, too. And in third year James’ parents started doing the same.
They made an extra effort, though they would never say so, on Sirius’ birthday. Because he never heard from family on his birthday, so they made sure that they made up for it.
And if one of their birthday’s fell too close to a full moon, they moved it to the next week. So there were times when everyone thought they were prepared for a Marauder birthday madness, and it was suspiciously quiet. And them bam, unexpected madness a few days later.
