The Mother Watching 👀

"Nesta could have sworn the charms on their bracelets let out a soft, singing hum"..... after Emerie mentioned the Mother watching over them during the Blood Rite...

This wording is eerily similar to the bonus chapter of Azriel's in which he is leaving Gwyn's presence:

Azriel entered the warmth of the stairwell, and as he descended, he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer.

This to me shows and proves that the Mother WAS watching over Azriel that night. That the Mother blessed him with a mate bond during his interaction with Gwyn.

Right now he is just too blinded to see what is right in front of him. The Mother hasn't forsaken him. He just needs to be patient a little while longer.

And here I was just focused on Azriel (since we were talking about him and all), but imagine Elain running around with Azriel behind her sister’s back without having a simple conversation with Lucien about that bond, like a fckng adult. Imagine being an Elain stan, defending her left and right, and still think she would do this. Doing that would make her a highly unliked character, mean and childish, and Sarah just doesn’t write her characters like that.

I know everyone is annoyed by Azriel because of *waves hands* everything, but keep in mind he’s also the last one of the bat boys to be fleshed out/doesn’t talk much, so he’s easy to project on, which explains why he’s the fandom bicycle.

However, I think it would behoove people to remember that at the end of the day, two things above all define him:

- his rage

- his self disgust/hatred

The rage ties back to what was done to him and by extension his mother as a child. I can only hope sjm will tie whatever healing journey he will go on back to that to resolve that long buried trauma because as of right now his only therapy is violence which, fair, but not exactly healthy

The deep seated self disgust/hatred is going to be a huge obstacle for him to overcome. Having such low self esteem & hatred for your culture/background will be a frankly brutal challenge for him to work through in order for him to see himself worthy of love (not to mention unpacking the whole centuries-long unrequited love with Mor)

Deep down , I think he’s still that traumatized, scared little boy who was taken from his mother, imprisoned in the dark, and violently tortured, who craves safety, comfort, and belonging. He’s got a lot of shit to work through before he can accept that for himself, and I’m really looking forward to seeing a softer side of him as those wounds slowly close

To piggyback off this...

It literally tells us in his chapter that he envies his brothers because of what they have and with whom they have it with.

Azriel feels like Elain should be his because his brothers have the sisters. This part is literally TOLD to us by Sarah.

Does Azriel actually like Elain? Or does he like that with her, he thinks he'll feel a sort of belonging with his brothers because he's with the last sister?

Oh, I can hear them now, Azriel doesn't feel entitled to Elain! And she wants him back! Great! But with being with Elain, how does that help Azriel's self-hatred? How does being with Elain, challenge his perspective of Illyrian's? His on culture? (I can go into heavy detail how Elriel is a true red herring but not today)

But the Bat Boys are brothers! They call themselves that! He is included in their family! Right. I'm not arguing that point. I'm arguing that Azriel feels that being with Elain will really cement his idea that he will finally belong. And that is the entire point of his character arc.

Azriel coming to terms with, who is he. An Illyrian. And that no matter what, no matter who is his endgame is (Gwyn) he will always have his family. That being with the "third sister" (as described by him) doesn't make him any more or less apart of the family. And I really hope we get some sort of scene where Rhysand and Cassian explain this to Azriel.

Sarah has NEVER written an endgame couple like this.

Azriel’s conflicts are his own, internal. It’s about his sense of “belonging” in a group that had already been there when he showed up to that camp to train; in a group that had years ahead of him when it came to training, flying, etc.; in a group where everyone is already mated and living an amazing life; in a culture where he was born into and should belong, but because of what happened to him, he believes he doesn’t. Those are Azriel’s struggles, not a love triangle.

Azriel’s love life will be light, breezy, beautiful and most of all, FREE.

I'm seeing Gwynriel/Elucien say they'd like potential Nesta POV for book 6 but how would that be good with Gwynriel/Elucien? 🤔

Nesta, or any one else for that matter, having a POV in the up coming books doesn’t have anything to do with Gwynriel or Elucien. It would just be a continuation of their voice in the story.

Ask yourself this. Did Tharion having a POV in CC effect Bryce and Hunt? Did Ithan having one effect Bryce and Hunt? Did Ruhn or Lydia having a POV effect Bryce and Hunt?

Did Aedion or Lysandra having a POV in TOG effect Rowan and Aelin? Did Manon or Dorion having a POV effect Aelin and Rowan? Did Chaol and Yrene having a POV effect Rowan and Aelin? Did Nesryn and Sartaq having POVs effect Rowan and Aelin?

The answer to all these are no, no them having a voice in the story did not effect the outcome of Bryce and Hunt’s or Rowan and Aelin’s story and relationship. So why would Nesta and Cassian or Feyre and Rhysand, or Mor and Emerie having POVs in the next book effect Gwyn and Az or Elain and Lucien being endgame?

This next book is three books long. There is plenty of room for everyone to have their voice and for Sarah to write Gwynriel and Elucien.

The three of them made it to the third stage only once in the next two weeks. Roslin, Ananke, and Deirdre were close on their heels, propelling Gwyn to push her group harder. She wanted to be the first. Wanted Nesta and Emerie and her to be the ones who wiped the smirks from Azriel’s and Cassian’s faces. Especially Azriel’s.

Az had a vicious competitive streak. It wasn’t boastful and arrogant, the way Cassian knew he himself was prone to be, or possessive and terrifying like Amren’s. No, it was quiet and cruel and utterly lethal. Cassian had lost track of how many games they’d played over the centuries, with one of them certain of a win, only for Az to reveal some master strategy.

It’s not moving the goalpost, it’s not overcomplicating things, it’s not changing theories for the heck of it, it’s not contradicting ourselves. Sarah told us herself on Call Her Daddy that the format of the books from now on will be different. Yes, we thought we would get a book for Gwynriel and another book for Elucien, but now those two books have merged and turned into one giant book in 4 parts movements. As simple as that. New information supersedes old information, which in this case refers to each book following a single couple. Now the format has changed (we believe it will be multi PoV for 6, 7 and 8). When presented with new information, you adjust accordingly. Maybe you should try it sometime.
