came across a post about the discord age verification rollout and the under-16s social media bans worldwide and someone added a bit at the bottom of the reblog chain that this whole thing is a poorly thought out safety measure to protect kids and i need people to understand that it's not.

it's not a poorly thought out safety measure. it's a very well thought out surveillance tool disguised as something that will protect children online. social media de-anonymised the internet and age verification came along to take people's privacy, freedom of speech, livelihoods and lives.
