I maintain that the best summation of my feminist beliefs are that men and women are not fundamentally different. There are a few quantifiable differences if you average out every woman and every man, but they are not qualitative. And most of them are socially constructed, and would be fixed if we started treating men and women the same. Neither is inherently smarter, neither is inherently kinder, neither is inherently more stoic or stronger or angrier or softer. Everyone is obsessed with the differences between women and men, with finding them and creating them and distancing themselves from the "other half". It's fucked up

Agreed. As many kinds of humans, our centers of variance are inevitably well within each other's ranges of variance. The differences are far, far smaller than the commonalities.

I get where a lot of it comes from - humans need to categorize because the world is Too Big to itemize it all.

But we have a lamentable tendency to then use those categories as morally qualitative when they are at best circumstantially quantitative.

I do not care. Oh my GOD I do not care. As long as there's a disabled person on this planet who the accessibility device will benefit, the accessibility device is necessary.

Also, if you're so worried about people being "lazy" by using accessibility devices, MORE worried than you are about disabled (visibly or not) people not having access to them, you have unchecked ableism you need to work through.

Fandom has such unresolved mommy/daddy issues about authors. If you apply a little reading comprehension skills to my original post you’ll see I didn’t say anything at all about the author. You guys always make “interpretation” about your beef with the author. You’re all obsessed with the author. This post is just about deciphering what is there in canon. Figuring out what is being communicated by the canon itself with all the words and images and basic formal elements that are there in canon. That’s all it’s about. It really doesn’t matter if the author intentionally put all those things there in a pattern that might support the idea that this one character’s queer. That’s not what this is about. What matters is if you can compellingly argue there’s a pattern of evidence there. Or not. Everyone is conspiring together to make me go insane still adding shit about authorial intent on my post.

Like they look really similar (my source is the vol 2 posters seriously go check they look like they’re related ong) plus the way they spend approximately half of any conversation insulting eachother just makes anyone think that of course they’re siblings, it’s what all of Dustin’s college friends and Steve’s colleagues assume.

Then one day when they’re visiting the other someone makes a comment like ‘it’s really sweet that you get on that well with your brother!’ And they both just freeze before realising ohhhh that makes a lot more sense than our batshit insane story of how we met so yeah fuck it brothers.

(After about a year of this it seems like Claudia has forgotten that Steve isn’t actually her son she just yells stuff like ‘dusty can you go grab your brother for me dinners ready’ or ‘ Steve dear can you pick up your brother from college this weekend?’ They never correct her, they just really like being considered each others family.)
