WHEN HARRY MET SALLY (1989) dir. Rob Reiner
In the name of the Warrior I charge you to be brave. In the name of the Father I charge you to be just. In the name of the Mother I charge you to defend the young and innocent. In the name of the Maid I charge you to protect all women.
the louis litt b plot of suits s3/4 is, dare i say, carrying this show rn. we’ve kind of lost the plot on the harvey stuff as soon as the foot came off the pedal on the escalating suffering of his emotional divorce with mike. but louis? i was not familiar with your game
it is kind of crazy that hit tv show suits (circa s3) has dedicated multiple episodes to harvey’s backstory in the da’s office and his loyalty issues and walking the ethical line but never crossing it, with the big speech to donna in the flashback about how he doesn’t want to know what kind of lawyer he would be without her after she reamed him out for getting within spitting distance of burying evidence. and them smash cut to the present day where his single biggest priority is committing fraud on the daily with mike’s whole situation. and there is zero acknowledgement, even subtextually, of this irony. of course this is because harvey views unauthorized practice of law as a victimless crime, which it sort of is in this case because mike is a genius who probably didn’t really need to go to law school so no one is interested in the broader thought exercise of what it means to pluck someone off the street and let them grift actual real clients. no harm no foul. because at the end of the day mike is his special guy so it’s fine. which is the whole point anyway
how is it possible that it took like 35 episodes for harvey specter to get sued for legal malpractice. it should have been episode 2 at the latest

“I will have an undergraduate class, let’s say a young white male student, politically-correct, who will say: “I am only a bourgeois white male, I can’t speak.” … I say to them: “Why not develop a certain degree of rage against the history that has written such an abject script for you that you are silenced?” Then you begin to investigate what it is that silences you, rather than take this very determinist position-since my skin colour is this, since my sex is this, I cannot speak… From this position, then, I say you will of course not speak in the same way about the Third World material, but if you make it your task not only to learn what is going on there through language, through specific programmes of study, but also at the same time through a historical critique of your position as the investigating person, then you will have earned the right to criticize, you be heard. When you take the position of not doing your homework- “I will not criticize because of my accident of birth, the historical accident” - that is the much more pernicious position.”
