Over the past few months I have asked a male architect for ideas & drafts for the renovation of the farmhouse, and at every turn I am stunned by his utter disregard for any cleaning-related concerns. For example, he is very into the idea of having in the living-room a big, non-openable window near the ceilingāwhich, granted, looks pretty, like having a piece of blue sky when you raise your eyes, but immediately Iām like,Ā with a high ceiling, how will I clean this? You canāt open it so you have to clean both sides separately, and you canāt easily reach either side. Iāll need a tool with an absurdly long telescopic handle. He says, a stepladder. Iām like, but Iāll need to carry it by myself to the living-room and the front of the house every time. āSo?ā So a very tall stepladder is heavy? And it will be hard not to get dirty water dripping down the wall. He reacts like he canāt believe he is being asked to bring the concept of dirty soap water into his grand designs, like these are base, trifling considerations, when to me itās a crucial factor in the decision to add this decorative window.
Similarly we both agree on leaving most of the wood beams exposed because theyāre old and beautiful, but when I ask if we ought to insulate in such a way as to cover every other one, so the remaining ones are farther apart and itās harder for spiders to use them as ready-made anchors for their webs, he just looks disgusted, like āI am talking about Architecture and you bring up spiderwebs.ā At this point I start to entertain the idea that men make horrible architects. You design someoneās house to give them a nice, convenient space to live in, not to make their life more difficult. A man who has never used a sponge in his life should not be allowed to graduate from architect school and thatās the end of it.

I would love to see the anti immigration conservatives do this for at least 30 mins..
Donate: We canāt do Thanksgiving without farm workers
Friendly reminder that most farm workers are paid nearly nothing via loopholes (donāt have to follow minimum wage if you arent paying by the hour!)
And that āunskilled laborā isnāt an actual thing. Itās just used by desk jockeys who play on the internet all day instead of working so they feel superior to everyone who actually does the work they profit off of. And of course, to make themselves feel better for the abuse they dish out.

I think Iām going to apply a bit more critical thinking when watching the news.
Re: the last post, the article mentions that some places use clams to test the toxicity of the water. Itās like that in Warsaw- we get our water from the river, and the main water pump has 8 clams that have triggers attached to their shells. If the water gets too toxic, they close, and the triggers shut off the city water supply automatically.Ā Ā
The clams are just better at measuring the water quality than any man-made sensors.
Edit: check out this documentary trailer :Ā https://vimeo.com/408820791
God Bless Our Troops
They hot glued a spring to a clam and gave it full control over the water supply
I trust it
Clams donāt lie
Iām just going to assume this is how church works in the Cars universe
I also want to make it abundantly clear this is why people sayĀ āfuck copsā and whyĀ āBlue Lives Matterā is bullshit. It may only be a āhandfulā of corrupt cops (which is also bullshit) but itās the entire institution behind them that enables them and refuses to take any form of accountability. Every single cop is complicit. Every single one.
āIāll create something, you understand?ā

My job just gave everyone permit letters to break quarantine so we can keep coming to work because weāre Essential.

Psst. Hereās how to report workplaces violating shelter-in-place orders. And hereās a reporter you can talk to to anonymously name and shame employers exhibiting bad behavior.Ā
