this always gets me :')

in this scene Corporal is thinking to himself that at this point he likely cannot be saved from his intrusive thoughts and hallucinations, as they are caused by him killing people; and he sees himself as useless for anything that's not killing people, so he has to keep killing

then he reunites with Lieutenant, thinks about asking her help but doesn't because she's pretty worn too; then she starts to talk to him about everything that's been bothering her recently, many terrible things she witnessed, good people's sacrifices and such, and how it made her feel;

and he realizes he has just been helpful with something that's not killing, offering her comfort and support, being someone she can trust, and it brings a light to his situation

and then Lieutenant in her usual fashion straight up says she isn't interested in helping the people who ask for help, she wants to help everyone, even those who think they cannot be saved anymore.

Pumpkin Scissors keeps surprising me...

on yet another reread, i noticed how very early on, there is this interval where Kauplin's assistant explains how she's not allowed to even imagine the patient, because this could influence her judgement of the samples; yet anyway, she starts to imagine the patient's sickness as a sort of fungi-infected insect

this little fungus then haunts the narrative for many long volumes, whenever the patient's issues escalate

...until much much later, the patient's case is explained in all detail, and, spoiler, it has nothing to do with fungi

i believed it because i started imagining the source of the sickness...

The narrative did to me, the reader, exactly the thing the assistant was told to not do. and i haven't noticed, even though it was RIGHT after she explained it. well-played!!!!

#940.5 - Wattrel live and make their nests along coastal cliffs, where they take advantage of the ocean as a source of wind and food. They fly in a specific way so that their wings catch the wind and their bones within produce electricity. Then, when they spot fish Pokémon from the air, they will dive into the ocean to electrocute their prey. Their cliffside nests are known for their strange, crackling texture, which has made them a popular delicacy. As Wattrel grow, they begin to develop an elastic throat sack that can store the electricity generated by their wings; they can then inflate this sac to amplify their electric attacks. Despite their frequent ocean-diving, their feathers have very little oil, making them ill-suited for extended swimming.

#924.5 - Tandemaus are comprised of a loving pair that will stick together no matter what. They demonstrate excellent teamwork, sharing any food they find equally between them and living and fighting in tandem. They are known to work together to raid houses in search of resources to build their intricate nests; using their incisors to cut pieces of material and ferry them back to their hidden den. A Trainer with a domesticated Tandemaus may be lucky enough to witness the growth of this young family, referred to as Matrimaus until the young are able to walk on their own. Wild Matrimaus hide their eggs and young away in secure, burrowed nests until they are old enough to join the family out into the world as Maushold, making the new little additions seem to appear from nowhere one day. The parents will protect their little ones during battles, though during tough fights, the whole group has been seen joining the fight.

im watching Soul Eater and they're going to fucking Prypiat. the place is literally called Sarcophagus, "20 years ago everyone from this village disappeared" (and the episode aired in 2009), the visuals aren't that subtle either
