my personal take on the matter
When someone is behaving erratically or unusually in public, this does not automatically make them a threat.
If you sit next to the person on the bus who you see as spasming and twitching... most of the time they'll continue to move the same way they were with no ill intent to you. It's not dangerous, it's tourettes/stimming/cerebral palsy symptoms.
If you chat to the homeless man yelling to himself outside the shops... most of the time you'll learn why he's upset, have a chat that makes him feel less alone, and he won't want your help or will calm down because he's been acknowledged.
If you check on the woman moaning and writhing in her seat on the train... most of the time you'll find she's hungover or in withdrawal or suffering from a chronic medical problem, and you can offer support that could make her feel better or save her life.
Most people aren't out to get you. Not everything about a person's behaviour is intentional or directed at you. Strange does not equal threatening.
He never intended them to be pure evil. Deal with it.
it's not acknowledged enough that a lot of the sleep deprivation, a really big number, that is seen in children and teenagers is due to their parents. "my kid's up all night on their phone" and why exactly is that? because nighttime, the time when they're supposed to be sleeping, aka unconscious in bed, aka not causing you any trouble, aka unable to be immediately put to work by you, is so much of the time the only true "free time" they have. that's what it is. if the moment they step out of their room you give them something to do and berate them for breathing; if every moment they're in their room you're calling them out to do work, and then chiding them for trying to lock their door ... when is there a moment for them to just do what they want? to have fun? to be happy?
there isn't one. not unless they're awake when they're meant to be asleep.
[ISAT and undertale advisor/protag swap] i've drawn loop stuck with frisk. now siffrin being stuck with chara
i know a lot of my “audience” is young, as am i. i dont remember the aids epidemic, i wasnt alive, and a lot of people doom posting probably don’t either. and with recency bias being what it is, its no surprise we all feel like this is the worst its ever been for queers.(if you say this is the worst its ever been for poc, though, no excuse i should be allowed to kill you)
let me show you this photo
the men in black clothing represent the number of men in a gay male’s choir that died during the aids epidemic. reagan fucked us over so badly, we lost so much. but we came back. not organically or because of some miracle, but because we organized and protested and helped each other out and we got the damn job done.
and despite the slogan “the first pride was a riot” going around every june… where is the rioting and the fighting back? have you forgotten this is not our first rodeo in the least, especially for nonwhite folk? it has never been easy for us, and to ignore the progress we have made is, well. you’re lying to yourself.
not only will we survive, but we’re going to do the damn work. protest and work in your community and do what you need to do after you take some time to wallow in misery. and by no means am i saying you should all risk your literal safety and no one should recloset themselves. but by god, dont just wallow in misery and leave the rest of us to do the work in lesser numbers.
Feel like in the UT fandom's attempt to reverse the 2015-era-gremlinification of Chara Undertale there's risen a common- not necessarily mischaracterization, but misremembering of Chara's dialogue as being needlessly formal or "proper". It is true that they're eloquent, (and they do use a more formal text style in the Japanese translation)- but it's common to extend this trait in fan content to them being flowery, or even never using contractions. Nothing wrong with having these headcanons! But for one, they very much do use contractions:
The undoubtably-Chara lines in the game's narration do have a very specific style! They're blunt, matter-of-fact, impatient, and clipped- with just a little of that pacifist-route curiosity peaking through:
Again, they are a well-spoken kid, but I think we may have mentally misfiled Chara's genocide dialogue as "flowery and formal" when it's really more... stilted and un-natural. It's weirdly detached, kind of like they're, you know, the ghost of a dead kid who's been grafted onto your soul as a personification of pointless level-grinding:
The dialogue isn't weird because it's formal, it's unnatural. It purposefully doesn't "flow". (As opposed to the geno dialogue, which you can definitely picture this little rosy-cheeked kid bluntly stating under their breath as they inspect every little corner of New Home for what-have-you).
And for the NarraChara theory, the game's narration isn't eloquent in a "fancy" way- it has a very distinctive "dry, technical-sounding language contrasting typically-informal subject matter" you could clearly imagine in the mouth of the kind of 2010s kid who reads Tumblr posts on Pinterest and edits TV Tropes (though order of influence may actually be reversed).
We very much are picking through scraps here, and technically we don't have any living-and-with-a-soul Chara dialogue- so this is all headcanon ground, anyway. I do think it's odd though, that in fan works we have both extremes of Chara speaking-styles: the "gremlin" take and the "extremely proper" take. I personally see them as more direct and a little stilted- a kid who's pretty talkative and has a sense of humor, yet clearly doesn't get into many two-sided conversations.
Trying to do hw but my mind solely wants to think about how charas motivations only make sense if you look at it from the eyes of a child and that ignoring them being a kid is how the fandom got stupid ideas in it's head of them being a mass manipulator who's entirely evil even though the game beats it into our head they made the plan BECAUSE they loved the dreemurrs. Like obviously their plan was never going to work it was a bad fucking plan from the getgo and little kids are 1) stubborn and 2) not known for thinking things through????? People saw asriel call them not the greatest person and a say he wished frisk was his friend (which fair!! Charas plan did get him killed and was the catalyst for things going wrong!) And immediately jumped to making them abusive ignoring all of the evidence that chara did care about and loved monsterkind.
Agreed. The fact that they not just tried to sacrifice themselves, but specifically turn Azzy into a Super Powerful God who saves Everyone in One Fell Swoop? The notes are right, that even if your worst interpretation of Chara’s motives are true- their central tragedy is that they never grew up to, well, an age where you truly understand the concept of taking a human life.
Like, if you’ve ever had a daydream as a kid after someone made you upset about dying in some horrible way and everyone being so so sorry they were ever mean to you and wishing they’d just listened to you!, or about getting super tough or powerful and making them all sorry! - Chara’s whole tale just emanates that, from an already self-destructive kid who is now having their martyrdom death wish indirectly validated as a genuine option by an entire race of people.
I wish I wasn’t a ball of trauma… it’s keeping me from being the kind of girl I so desperately wanna be.
The art tennis starts here!

The next person reposts this master post with their new picture attached, tagging the next person.
It's only for fun, so you can add anything!
It can be as quick and doodly as you like.
You are allowed to add background, text, memes, and edit and alter things drawn by players before you, even if you're feeling mischievous and want to mess with them. Including resizing and moving them around. (cuz i feel i positioned mine poorly, so move them as you need to)
And the last rule, is the same as the first rule of gun safety!
And the first rule of the gun safety is to have fun!

when i first watched sao i thought kirito was a girl till someone. else referred to her as a guy
You were right the first time, lol
Kiri is absolutely the world's densest egg and we all love her for it
She's gonna be in her fifties and fully transitioned and married when she'll perk up one day and turn to Asuna and go "I think... I think I might be a woman?" And Yui will pop in with simulated confetti and party streamers while she cheers and Asuna will race to the kitchen and return with a "CONGRATS ON FIGURING IT OUT" cake in hand
Earlier today my filters were off so when a doctor's office called for scheduling stuff, so when I was asked "I'm looking for [Name], is she around?" after I pick up, I immediately respond, "Yes mortal, I am she."
I had to stop myself from hanging up in shame at that moment.
Calling my doctors "mortal" from now on to give them the implication that i am not mortal and hence i have little use for them if they don't serve me well.
a lot of my disillusionment with the trans "community" comes down to the fact that too many of you take "gender is different from sex" and go "ah ok, so instead of saying women are fragile and men are strong, I should say afabs are fragile and amabs are strong. to be Inclusive"
then you just treat gender like a surface level aesthetic draped over what someone "actually" is. really is indistinguishable from terf rhetoric
you all need to unpack your bioessentialism, but we also need a better theory of gender than "it's just dressup." I will pick my words carefully here, but the word "gender" itself refers to so many different phenomena that have been lumped together, and we need to un-lump them
in a feminist context, "gender" has historically referred to externally imposed categorization and the internalization and performance of said categories. in a paper I wrote on this subject, I called this sense of the word "extrinsic gender"
"intrinsic gender," on the other hand, is what I used to refer to the sense of the word "gender" that a lot of trans people are talking about when they discuss social gender dysphoria and euphoria. it's the internal sense of category that's resistant to external impositions
but then we also use the word "gender" to refer to subconscious sex, which is the term Julia Serano coins in Whipping Girl to name the phenomenon we're talking about when we talk about bodily dysphoria. it is the "gender" being "affirmed" by gender affirming healthcare like HRT and bottom surgery
so, "gender" is: a social classing system, a performance, and at least two internal phenomena as well. and I really don't know if it's doing us a service to conflate all of these things!
a lot of people lately seem to be going heavy on the "performance" use of the word, ignoring (intentionally or otherwise) social classing, intrinsic gender, and subconscious sex. this seems to have led to a lot of "progressive" people treating trans women like men "amabs" who wear womanhood as a costume, and nobody understands why that's wrong because they also think gender is just a performance
see also "why can't you just be a femboy/feminine man/etc"
furthermore, some trans people experience social dysphoria but not bodily dysphoria, and vice versa. but bodily dysphoria in particular has gained some stigma in the last few years
because we use the word "gender" to discuss both "intrinsic gender" as I termed it above, and subconscious sex, there's been a certain strain of argument from some trans people that says that medical transition reaffirms societal gender norms about bodies, and that bodily dysphoria must only result from externally imposed norms about what kind of body corresponds to what gender, and thus it would just go away if the gendered associations were unlearned
I'm strongly of the opinion, though, that our bodies are not like clothes! gender dysphoria related to clothing would generally have to do with one's intrinsic gender clashing with the gendered norms of their culture surrounding clothes, but I believe "gender" dysphoria related to the body itself is really, in large part, subconscious sex dysphoria, and this component cannot be alleviated by changing norms or associations. I strongly believe I would still seek HRT and bottom surgery if I lived my whole life in a cultureless vacuum
you cannot sidestep my dysphoria by regendering parts of my body I'm trying to change, and frankly it causes me a lot of strife that fellow trans people who flirt with me think they can talk about my body however they like as long as they gender it correctly. the word "girlcock" is not a magic dysphoria repellent, because the dysphoria doesn't just come from the gendering
Let me settle the 'is it fetishism and is it bad?' debate once and for all:
Being attracted to any kind of body is normal. Fat bodies. Trans bodies. Disabled bodies. All normal. Being extra attracted to a specific kind of body is normal too. Totally normal to have a type.
Not unlearning the societal stigma attached to those kinds of bodies, the people who inhabit those bodies, and the people who fuck them, to the point where you do any of the following:
Only want to date/fuck the person in secret.
Reduce the person to the feature that you desire and ignore the rest of who they are as a person.
Expect the person to be a walking porn fantasy instead of a real person with their own sexual preferences and boundaries.
Would no longer love the person if the stigmatized aspect of their body changed.
Consider yourself superior to the person, think the person should be 'grateful' that you love their body, etc.
See the person as a temporary adventure while planning to eventually settle down with someone whose body isn't stigmatized.
Is bad and harmful and you shouldn't be dating anyone until you've worked on your shit, because this makes you a very terrible partner. This doesn't mean you are a bad person with bad-fetishist-desires who can only desire people badly, it means you need to unlearn societal stigma so you can be a better partner to the people you desire.
Thank you for coming to me ted talk.
