For my second trick, an @Esquire #OldFashioned again with the other half of the @JimBeam #DevilsCut. Super sweet but tasty. Takes that bite right out 3/5

For my second trick, an @Esquire #OldFashioned again with the other half of the @JimBeam #DevilsCut. Super sweet but tasty. Takes that bite right out 3/5
Created an esquire #Manhattan with #JimBeam #DevilsCut to start my experiment off. Added a little orange peel in the shaker. Bland, simple with a little too much bite 2/5
I absolutely need to step up my #Manhattan and #OldFashioned game.
Went to #BevMo and bought a some minis of #whiskey #bourbon and what not. Even got myself a new bar set and ingredients. Here goes nothing...
fastcompany December 2014 / January 2015 at 33k feet on my way back to #Seattle from #HongKong
"Video Games for Grown-ups"? I'll definitely have to check out funomena and these other games.
Beautiful road map and illustrations on "Your Perfect Productive Day" by #FrancescoMuzzi
I need to take a look at 1password
These #productivity interviews were mostly just plugs for their companies. Plan your day, work hard, and try to take time for yourself. 1/5 for this issue.
harvardbusinessreview December 2014. My last day in #Hong Kong overlooking the #HappyValley racetrack.
Great commentary on last month's "Keeping Your Word" by #NeilBearden. I'm society with the recent coining of "Business is business", I'm with Gene on this one. My consulting company #Guidacent is based on strong customer deliverables and personal relationships. Not keeping your commitments is bad for relationships and bad for business.
An interesting article on the role of the Chief Human Resource Officer #CHRO. Executives ideally should have HR experience so they know how to develop leaders and deal with complicated issues like talent management, mergers, and other situations. I don't have this experience so I'm not help here but I do know how to build rapport and enable leaders.
The "Vision Statement - How to Lie with Charts" was a great reminder on the lesson #ReadBetweentheLines. I create a lot of charts and this is a good reminder to focus on value and what you are trying to convey to your audience. Charts can be misinterpreted in so many ways.
Really interesting innovations and acquisitions with #Delta. Getting equity in successful regional airlines that bolster their flight routes and allow them to enable better partnerships. Acquiring a refinery to keep #oilprices and #fuelcosts low and provide for your fleet. #ProfitShare with your employees and create a strong set of principles that can guide them. Can't argue with results. Well done.
The "Understanding 'New Power'" article by #JeremyHeimans and #HenryTimms was interesting to really show true examples, profiling, and cataloging of these industry-disrupting #startups. It was also great that they showcased their limitations with the #occupy movement and the #Obama campaign. It's a balance since regulations are always going to drive the "old power" that you are trying to topple and without understanding how to navigate those waters, the "new power" will fall short.
I'll keep the "Build an Innovation Engine in 90 Days" article by #ScottDAnthony, #DavidSDuncan, and #PontusMASiren in my back pocket. Well structured.
Moral of "The Discipline of Business Experimentation" by #StefanThomke and #JimManzi, treat your experimentations like scientists do. Find similar subjects, create a control, and determine the measures. Buy off and resulting actions are obvious if you want to get traction.
"Making Dumb Groups Smarter" by #CassRSunstein and #ReidHastie is similar in process to an article, or maybe it was a thought of piece, on how to #brainstorm. Effective #brainstorming is not from getting everyone in a room and guiding them through the exercise. It's through letting individuals think creatively for themselves first, and then getting together to determine the best options through open sharing and dialog. Not everyone is the outgoing or outspoken type. Some of your best ideas may come from the #introverts.
"Why Corporate Functions Stumble" by #SvenKunisch, #GünterMüller-Stewens, and #AndrewCampbell summary. Everyone should be focused on value to their customer whether that be internal or external but all functions should be contributing to the bottom line. Don't get carried away functioning to function. Drive for value and stay #lean.
Affirmed more of what I already knew and have studied for years at #Boeing. 2/5
@esquire December 2014 waiting for my flight from #Bangkok to #HongKong
Part 2!
It's April now but I NEED EVERYTHING IN THE GIFT GUIDE! Cast iron skillet, a leather luggage tag from owenfred (if I didn't just buy a plastic one), a vintage baseball from #HuntingtonBaseBallCo for my boy Jeff and his upcoming bachelor party, a better cocktail shaker, an awesome butcher block from #BrooklynButcherBlocks , a machined wallet from #MachineEraCo, a classic espresso maker by lacafetiere, and the Dopp Kit by blueclawco. So many things!
Wow, that 2015 #Ford #MustangGT really looks amazing...'merica. The vw #GolfGTI totally deserves the 'nom. I love those cars too.
The channingtatum article made me feel like anything is still possible and I'm not doing enough haha
#SethRogan and #EdwardSnowden in a phone interview together? Awesome. Would be hilarious to hear if they really do sound the same.
"The Age of Exuberance" by #TomJunod is a great time piece on the #millennial condition. We went through ups and down but we are incredibly optimistic and feel like we can change the world. Then there's the other side of this shown by #TylertheCreator where we are so optimistic about what we can do that we don't care what anyone else is doing. We just want to do us and people shouldn't care about how because we are going to do it anyway. Very interesting to think about.
#MichaelCaine is awesome and had a great "What I've Learned". Father goes to war. Mom cries, pulls herself together and told them, "Your father's gone. Now you two have got to look after me." And they went, "Right, mum. Don't worry. We'll do that. We'll take care of you. It's okay." And she made men of us with one sentence.
"Poverty taught me not to worry about money."
"In real estate they say: location, location, location. But the next time you buy a house, remember the 'f' word: finite...The last house on a very good block. The last house on the seaside-where there's no more to sell. They mustn't be able to build anything else. It's not good buying in Las Vegas, where there's seventy-eight thousand square miles of desert, you know?" Even great real estate advice haha!
And an interesting last article from #ChrisJones about the year in space. A little longer than it needed to be, in my opinion, but life in space seems ridiculously hard. Too much for me to handle...unless I had to.
Good issue this month. 3/5
esquire December 2014 waiting for my flight from #Bangkok to #HongKong
What a brilliant watch from #LouisVuitton with all 24 time zones!
A great sidebar by #ChrisJones on how Richard & Patricia Kelly raised the twin #astronauts. Glad to know my plan for raising children has a little more legitimacy.
I love the little jabs that Esquire takes on their own readers. It's subtle but hilarious as seen on this index for #millennials.
Great "Note from the Editor" #DavidGranger. Probably the best one I've read for a while. Very optimistic on the future.
Had to share the joke from #EmilyWickersham of #NCIS. "Come on! I'm a fungi!" Haha
Thought provoking article from #StevenMarche on "The Future of Pleasure" with a great subtitle, "Just how high do we want to get?" Some staggering stats he collected. Can we as a society be intelligent and responsible enough to regulate ourselves? I truly hope so. And quite the back handed compliment as well on "Down with the Brits".
More to come in Part 2...
#Furious7 was nonstop action, as expected. I may have fallen asleep a couple times (I’m still jetlagged OKAY) but I thought it was well crafted with #PaulWalker's passing. I was on the edge of my seat at times thinking he was going to die in the movie. Will there be a Fast & Furious 8? I’d see it 4/5
Started from the bottom. #JackDaniels #Manhattan before #Furious7. I’ve gotta find my favorite Manhattan mix 3/5
Added an orange to it later and was actually pretty good! People tell me this makes it an old fashioned? 4/5
Trying out a new #bourbon #cocktail. The ms betts from #skillet in #ballard #seattle. Very tart with a nice minty touch. Very nice on this sunny day. Could pack a little more punch but I did order two since it was #happyhour 3/5
Wait, had my second and it did pack a punch. Maybe I'm just a light weight haha
gq December 2014 during the last night here on #RailayBeach #Thailand
Part 2!
Some great call outs on "Woman of the Year". A lot of interesting things happened last year!
#EddieRedmayne lookin wicked English!
#ShaileneWoodley looking great with short hair. She pulled it off with that dress. That looks reminds me of #RobinWright from houseofcards. Ladies with the short hair making things happen! And also a well written article that keeps her human.
#DaveChapelle and #SteveCarell stylish
I'll be honest, I didn't read the article on #MichaelSam. I don't care about his sexual orientation. Let the man play.
My dad was a huge #LedZepplin fan and of course that means I am too. Playing from those giant black speakers I still use in my living room today, blowing out all the neighbor on our Queen Anne porch. I haven't done any research on the band whatsoever and even feel guilty at this point to not know who #JimmyPage or #RobertPlant are but thank you #MarcoGrob for the interesting article although it sounded like Page wasn't the happiest about it.
Beautiful illustrations #JeffreySmith on the #KentBrantly #Ebola story. Edge of my seat writing by #SeanFlynn. Loved the different perspectives through the travel and treatment of these patients.
Great issue 4/5
gq December 2014 during the last night here on #RailayBeach #Thailand
Great nautica look to lock this off. Nice collar on the sweater.
Uhhh...way to many layers izod
A beautifully designed charger from #flight001
Interesting looks from #ScottSternberg in "The Suited Man"
"The Least Influential People of 2014" by #DrewMagary was great. Just ripping on everyone haha! The graphics were hilarious!
I need to watch all of the funnyordie hits. #DowntownDiddy? Sounds hilarious.
#ChrisPratt killing the game in 2014
Part 2 coming soon...
esquire November 2014 while staring at the surrounding cliffs in #RailayBeach #Krabi #Thailand
#ScottRaab, your article on taylorswift was a great one. You asked tough questions but she came back with great answers. Unfortunately, still a fan of #TSwift
Thank you #ChrisJones for reminding me that I need to talk about movies more. You had a great subtitle on your review of #Interstellar. "When NASA stopped taking us to space, Hollywood entered the void." I think that is so true. This movie got subpar reviews from the critics on rottentomatoes but I loved this movie. To save the world, could you leave your family and possibly miss your children's childhood? I'll honestly say that I couldn't.
Had a similar conversation with a high school friend of mine while here on #Railay. I read all these magazines incmagazine, fastcompany, harvardbusinessreview about amazing people who have moved their way up for fame or fortune but they have made incredible personal sacrifices to get there. Lost relationships, missed family gatherings, holidays, paparazzi, public scrutiny, and as mentioned, missing their children growing up. I took my chance and I tried #entrepreneurship on my own for roughly 8 years but I'm satisfied with those decisions and the fact they didn't plan out for me. #Risk is not something I fear anymore but embrace and have also realized how much your team matters especially in the startup space. I've become a much better professional by driving towards making people's lives easier.
Great #bartips and #howto's this month. I always love when magazines keep us updated the fundamentals.
Thought provoking article from #StephenMarche on "The Rebellion". We should rebel to right the world but I'm personally reaping the benefits of adhering to the "standard." Intriguing conflict...
I'm not a #foodie so I got nothing from the #AmericanFoodDrinkAwards. A burger with ramen for a bun? Seriously?
Great #TonyBennett #WhatIveLearned "'...when you get a set together that's absolutely perfect, go in and pull out fifteen minutes of it.' That was his way of telling me that less is more."
#ChrisJones article on #PenelopeCruz and the #madrid #bullfights was fantastic. Just a really well written piece. I felt like I was there.
#politicssmolitics
Love this jacket from burberry. Well done
Thought provoking 3/5
incmagazine November 2014 while poolside in #ChangMai #Thailand
#TopGolf sounds pretty awesome! DJs, microchips in the golf balls, and LED targets? Sounds fun actually.
"Perks that Work" by #ScottLeibs fell a little flat for me. Yes, more and more companies are opting in for flexible work schedules (which I'm a huge fan of) but out of all the studies I've read on this concept, very few can quantify tangible benefits from it. Must be a tough nut to crack.
Great article by #AlexavonTobel on "Office Space that Really Pays". Save money with #Ikea fixtures by being creative and then spend that money on what really matters, #ergonomic chairs. Showcase your values in the artwork on your walls.
Good for #JessicaAlba and #TheHonestCompany. Re-Inventing yourself and succeeding is not easy.
Great short article here about #TimBarklage from #BetterLife. These tips about how to win at sharktankabc are really great tips on how to walk into any interview, potential client meeting, or business development opportunity.
1) Know answers to the standard questions or subjects "cold"
2) Have a compelling presentation
3) Practice
4) Know your audience
Great story on #GabrielBristol and #IntelicareDirect. Formally homeless man, adopted and abused starts a great call center company. The #AmericanDream is alive. He's a little strict on his policies, even outing possible good people but you can't deny results.
Some good. Mostly irrelevant 2/5
Even the #Venetian was here in #Macau. It felt like I was in #Vegas for a moment. The #VegasoftheEast supposedly does way more business than the original though
Did you know that they are building a #ParisCasino in #Macau? It's like going back in time and seeing the original #EiffelTower being built!
Loved the #JadeBuddha in #ChiangMai I've been spelling it wrong this whole time haha!
