Walmart has sent an email message to many of its customers telling of a recall by the supplier of its frozen shredded hash browns sold under

August 24, 2022

There's a new recall that I would like to spread awareness of: Great Value Shredded Hashbrowns have been recalled for possible contamination with listeria. Listeria can cause food poisoning and flu-like symptoms in healthy adults, but it more commonly affects infants, pregnant people, senior citizens, and the immunocompromised. In these groups it can also lead to more severe infections including sepsis, meningitis, and encephalitis, and symptoms of listeriosis can appear up to 2 months after a contaminated food item has been consumed. This recall currently only includes 64 oz bags with the following date codes and UPC, but if you're seeing this on any date other than the one listed above please make sure to check if the recall has been expanded:

This recall hasn't yet been reported by the FDA and at the moment this information is only being communicated by email to people that Walmart has records of having ordered Great Value Frozen Hashbrowns within the past 6 months, so if people wouldn't mind reblogging to spread awareness (especially among disability and parenting circles) I would greatly appreciate it. The current direction from the company is to discard affected bags and request a refund from the store, but I would caution against accepting any compensatory gift cards from the store in addition to your refund because they may try to claim it as a settlement if you need to sue for medical bills or damages later on

When one thinks about "ancient" Native American civilizations and ruins... the thing is that... most of them, they weren't ancient. The Inca were not fully conquered by the Spanish until 1572... for reference, the Mona Lisa was painted in 1502 and Martin Luther made the 95 Theses in 1517.. the "ancient" Aztec Empire was younger than the university of Oxford founded in the 11th century, Montezuma lived at the same time than Leonardo Da Vinci... There are castles that are younger than Machu Picchu, those cities were inhabited by millions just a few centuries ago, and some (Cuzco, México), many actually, are still inhabited today. People speak about the Ancient Maya as if it was some mysterious civilization that was lost, and while it was past its prime at the time of European conquest, the Maya still had city-states and were living in the same areas they live today.

There are still millions of people, right now, who speak Quechua, Nahuatl, and Maya in all their dialects, and I'm just talking about the three most well-known civilizations here... there are millions of Native Americans who still speak their languages and practice their culture and beliefs alive, both thriving and struggling today.

Talking about the "Ancient Inca" or "Ancient Aztecs" makes as much sense as talking about the "Ancient Dutch" or the "Ancient Swedes", and it's another way of erasing them, saying that they just aren't around anymore just like say the Sumerians, or that they just weren't relevant to world history. They were contemporaries to modernity and they're still alive today.

You can talk about the Ancient Olmecs or Ancient Chavín though. Because the Inca and the Aztecs are relatively "modern" but their cultures were just the latest from a cycle of civilizations stretching millenia before Christ.

In the vast world of comics, I wonder if there have been heroes with a “Groundhog Day,” type power. By that I specifically mean a hero who, if they die, immediately finds themselves waking up at the beginning of that day again. If they don’t die, they just continue forward through time.

I legitimately love delivering pizzas! If it were sustainable i wouldn’t mind at all doing it for the rest of my life! One of my best friends absolutely loves cleaning, and the only reason she quit cleaning professionally is that she was sick of the ways she was treated. My stepfather has been a carpenter and construction worker for 30 years, despite being a highly qualified graphic designer and architect, bc the man just fuckin loves construction work. For every “menial/undesireable” job available, there is someone who is happy to work it, if not for the stigma and need to survive. And for the truly awful ones? Like slaughterhouse cleanup, sewer maintenance, roadkill pickup, etc? With UBI they could almost all be mechanized, saving people from having to do grueling and dangerous jobs they really don’t have to do.

There are even people who will do those jobs because they recognize that they need to get done. Those people may not love the job itself but they take great pride in doing something that needs to be done.

People don’t just work for free doing jobs they love. If there’s a niche there will always be someone willing to fill it.

If I could have reasonable hours and accommodations for my limitations and be paid enough to survive without being asked to do 25 jobs advertised as 1 job and had UBI to ensure I could leave if it was too much/I was being mistreated/taken advantage of by employers looking to overwork employees to make more money I’d be totally happy to work retail as long as I physically could

I loved helping people. Sure there were dicks, and people who tried to take advantage of me, and the guy who verbally sexually harassed me, but like, they were few and far between? 99% of the time a smile and being earnest would deescalate even the angriest of customer, and believe me, some were very, very stressed. Trying to fax tax documents that would cost them $80.00, hey, let’s email that instead, it’s only $2.00 that way! People trying to copy beloved family photos, who want retouching, who want something they love laminated, who need banners for birthdays, who need business cards, people who need help and don’t understand tech,

and I could help them.

It was very rewarding and fulfilling.

Same thing when I worked minimum wage as an assistant IT tech. Helping people and interacting with them and figuring out the problem always feels good to me.

And people have told me, I just seem to have endless patience when people are stressed, and I can somehow deescalate their anger and make everything work in the end, and I dunno… it just feels like the good thing to do?

People will do jobs they feel fulfilled in if they can. If they know they can afford rent either way. If they can eat.
