A Leviathan Timeline Thing?

So I had a wicked fun time attempting to map out when all of the events in Leviathan went down.

Sunday, June 28

So we all know that the series kicks off the night of June 28th with the assassination of Franz and Sophie. I guess if you want to get technical the events of the first two chapters may have happened after midnight and thus really been on the 29th. (Chapters 1&2)

Monday, June 29

We for sure meet Deryn on the morning of the next day. The entire Huxley flight and rescue via the Leviathan happen on this day. Meanwhile, Alek’s squad are dealing with the S.M.S. Beowulf. (3-8)

Wednesday, July 1

On this, her third day aboard the Leviathan, Deryn was allowed to take the middy’s test (and passes it like a BAMF). (Mentioned chapter 11)

Thursday, July 9

This is the night when Alek and Volger fenced in the barn. (9)

Friday, July 10

This is likely the date of the first time we see Deryn climbing the ratlines and tending to the fléchette bats. We meet Newkirk and Mr. Rigby. It is also when we see the H.M.S. Gorgon and the kraken. The date of these events is not really confirmed but July 10th aligns best with the surrounding Alek chapters. It can safely be said that this is the date when Alek first attempts running with the Stormwalker. It is also when Alek learns about his father’s gold and they head for Lienz. (10-12)

Saturday, July 11

This is when Alek and friends are in Lienz. This is also when Alek kills the man in the rye field. (13-14)

Austria Hungary declares war on Serbia. (Mentioned chapter 15)

Saturday, August 1

Germany declares war on Russia. (Mentioned chapter 15)

Monday, August 3

This is when we have the scene in the middies’ mess and pick up Dr. Barlow at Regent’s Park. It is also when Alek and his men encounter the Herkules at the Swiss border. They are attacked with flares and Alek uses his father’s sword. (15-18) Germany declares war on France on this day. (Mentioned chapter 19)

Tuesday, August 4

This is when things kick off.

Deryn and Doctor Barlow go check out the bees. Great Britain declares war on Germany. German aeroplanes attack. Topside battle. Rigby gets shot. The Leviathan crashes in the Alps. Meanwhile, Alek and squad get to the castle and Volger tells Alek about the scroll that may make him heir to the throne. Then they see the Leviathan crash. (19-22)

Wednesday, August 5

A lot of this is the night of the 4th but it happens after midnight. Alek goes out on his “silly snowshoes” and goes to the crash site. He and Deryn meet and it doesn’t go well (lmao @ my precious babies). Deryn talks to Dr.Barlow about Alek and sees the eggs for the first time. Deryn then takes Dr. Barlow to meet Alek. They show him the Huxleys. Alek acts like a proper Prince and still pretty much hates Deryn. They talk about their respective technologies and go to the egg room. Then they head to the sick bay to check on Rigby and drop off the first-aid kits. Later the captain gives a speech and Deryn goes up in a Huxley. She sees Alek’s walker coming, makes a sliding escape, and holds Alek at knife-point. A meeting is held and a trade-off is organized. They prepare a sledge filled with food and spend the night in the castle. (22-30)

Thursday, August 6

They start dragging the sledge but then zeppelins come. Deryn does some dope axe moves to cut the chains holding the sledge to the walker. They fight the Kondors and Alek wrecks the walker. Alek proposes joining the Darwinists and giving them engines. It is confirmed that Dr. Barlow has figured out who Alek is. Alek tells Deryn about his parents, poor bby. (30-35)

Friday, August 7

The Herkules is back, y’all. The ship is too heavy because of dumb Volger and his gold ugh. Alek and Volger throw the gold out the window. (36-39)

Saturday, August 8

Deryn gets called to the captain’s quarters where he asks her about the Clankers and asks her to keep an eye on Alek. She tells Alek and then almost tells him her secret. Dr. Barlow interrupts and tells a bit about the Ottoman Empire situation. This is when she is revealed to be the granddaughter of Charles Darwin. The book ends with Alek questioning the eggs.    

It was nice seeing how the events of the books were spaced out. I also think it’s neat to see what days of the week they took place on and stuff. So idk if it’s boring but I thought it was fun figuring this stuff out. I think it’s safe to say that all of these dates are correct; everything lined up perfectly with the information given in the books and with actual historical events (basically when countries actually declared war on one another).

I did the other books too, and I’ll probably post them sometime later as well. Unfortunately, I did have less luck making everything work with them. A few things just didn’t add up (trust me, I tried it was very frustrating).

Also here’s some evidence to show that I was actually pretty thorough with this lol. I even used an old 2009 calendar because the days of the week lined up with those in 1914.

Anyway i love how the movie uses this very abstract out-there horror premise to represent the human tendency to get stuck on something and obsess over it and become trapped in a never-ending cycle and to resist change so hard that you still change anyway but in a way that degrades and warps and destroys you and the fallibility of human memory and how every time you recall something it gets a little less accurate which means the more you obsess over something the further entrenched in it you become the more you choose to live here the worse it gets the less you understand it until your perspective on the objective reality of it is completely destroyed. Lucid Dreaming Mastery: Stabilization, Portals, and DEILD

I’ve been seeing so many of you finally having lucid dreams and I’m genuinely so happy for you guys ❤️❤️❤️. But I’ve also been getting a flood of the same question over and over:

“Why can’t I stay in the dream?”

A lot of you are struggling with stabilization, so let’s talk about how to counter that.

Lucid dreaming happens when your prefrontal cortex wakes up while the rest of your brain is still in REM sleep. It’s a weak balance your awareness is active, but your body and subconscious are still dreaming. The moment you get too excited, emotional, or hyper-aware, your brain risks either waking up completely or collapsing the dream entirely.So here’s how to ground yourself and make it last:

01▸ STABILIZATION

How do I remain grounded in a lucid dream

‣ Rub palms together to generate tactile friction.

‣ Observe your hands or an object note fine detail.

‣ Touch or li k textured surfaces to anchor presence.

‣ Spin slowly in place to reset the environment.

‣ If fading begins, touch the ground or kneel.

‣ Lick a surface to shock clarity into place.

‣ Perform the nose-pinch test every few minutes.

‣ State aloud: “Stabilize now.”

‣ Repeat: “Increase clarity.”

02 ▸ PORTALS

How to get my portals working?

‣ Choose symbolic transitions doors, mirrors, pools.

‣ Stand still and command:

This portal leads to [location].”

‣ Picture it with full sensory detail.

How do I re-enter after waking up?

Dream Exit Initiated Lucid Dream (DEILD) DEILD (Dream Exit Initiated Lucid Dream) is a technique where you intentionally re-enter a dream right after waking up, without moving or opening your eyes. By staying still and relaxed, you can “chain” multiple lucid dreams in the same night.

Just because you woke up doesn’t mean you failed. Waking up is just a checkpoint not the end. You can always try again using DEILD that same night.Even in an awakening there is another chance to go back in. Stay calm, stay still, and re-enter.

‣ Do not open your eyes.

‣ Recall the dream just lost.

‣ Visualize returning to the same dream

04 ▸ Stubborn Characters

How do I get dream characters to respond better?

‣ Treat dream characters as equals not fake things.

‣ Approach with curiosity, not control.

‣ Remember: They are projections of your subconscious. Act as you would in real life and be respectful

Do Not Announce Lucidity!!!

‣ Telling them “You’re not real” often breaks the dream.

‣ they will become defensive, confused, or disengaged.

‣ Let the dream play out without ego intrusion.

‣ Use clear, simple language.

‣ Ask direct questions:

“Can you guide me?”

“Where is the right portal?”

‣ Use a warm dream tone. Tone dictates response.

What if the dream character seems dull or unhelpful?

Seek Higher Intelligence Within the Dream

‣ Some characters feel hollow—l glitch-like. Move on. Find one who holds presence.

‣ You’ll know them by their eye contact, tone, and detail.

These are the ones that know more than they should. Or find someone you know

How can I build trust in the dream space?

‣ say please and thank characters who help you. Your subconscious responds to appreciation.

what draws the line between dreams and reality? in other words, how do we know dreams aren't real? my honest take on how most dreams are shifts

you might want to listen to caribbean blue by enya while reading this post, trust me on this one.

in light of my recent conversation with @masoncantthinkofaname, i have come to realize something, which you hopefully resonate with. according to "science", it is believed that our dreams are our minds processing the world, our memories, our fears, thoughts, and our perception of reality through a series of vivid images. i, as an avid dreamer, believe there's more to this.

it is believed by native-american indigenous people, that while we sleep, our soul leaves our body and visits the dream realm. now hang on, i haven't just pulled this out of anywhere - i have my sources:

manari ushigua is the political and spiritual leader of the sápara, an indigenous nation in the ecuadorian and peruvian amazon. the sápara people, who are now very few in number, are a culturally rich community and guardians of the rainforest, who focus heavily on dream work and interpretation. the sápara word makihaunu refers to the dream world, and is a huge aspect of their practices because they view it as a bridge between the material and spirit world. i would recommend watching a few videos which i've linked below explaining more about the dream world. source #1: why do we dream? source #2: the role of the dream world source #3: what happens when we go sleep source #4: dreaming and parallel universes source #5: dreams bridge the physical and spirit world source #6: we cannot have fear in the dream world

many other cultures and traditions such as shamanism, taoism, and hinduism also strongly believe that during our sleep, we always have an out-of-body experience (often referred to our soul or consciousness leaving our physical body to travel the dream realm). what if isn't our soul, but our awareness transcending this realm (or reality) and exploring other realms? think about it - whether you believe in the multiverse theory or consciousness theory, both theories revolve around the fact that we can perceive any reality.

why? well, there are realities that feel like dreams, realities that have no logic and make no sense, and realities where we aren't fully grounded so our senses are clouded, and so much more. in short, we don't know anything.

mason and i agreed that there's more to shifting than what's often discussed. so, needless to say, someone can't decide whether something you experienced is a shift or not. for you, as the experiencer, are the only one who can define your experience. with me so far? if you had a dream which felt oddly shift-like.. then.. you most likely did shift. there are obviously many realities which function like dreams, and we're so used to dreaming that we don't realize it might in fact be a reality. so how do you really know it was a dream? how do you know you didn't shift?

chances are, you most likely woke up after having a clear and vivid dream that felt so real you were convinced you shifted.

i've always wondered, what if dreams aren't just our subconscious relaying perceived information to us, what if they're not just our experience and our ideas, or our fantasies and desires? what if they're not just our worst fears revealing themselves to us? what do we really know about dreaming? how do we know its just our brain showing us a sequence of imagery? and how is that even possible when dreams feel so real? all of my 5 senses work in my dreams, even my intuitive perception. can it be a coincidence that they feel so real? most times, we are so engrossed in our dreams that we truly believe it's real life and that we aren't in a dream.

in fact, dreaming hasn't actually been objectively proven or explained by science. science has explained different states experienced during dreams such as REM and the emission of theta waves. however, we don't actually know what the dreamer experiences unless we are the dreamer ourselves. there's plenty psychological explanations for it, but there are no solid explanations for dreaming, except for EEG's and measurements of brain activity to indicate we are having one. someone can recollect their dream and write it down but does that really count as evidence if we can't see someone else's dream? this leads me to believe the world doesn't just stop at science and that there's many things that will most likely never be proven or entirely explained. think about it, the vast majority of the world's population dreams, and even lucid dreams, yet there's no fully proven explanation for it. "but araya, i had a dream where i was fighting a half-shark half-dinosaur mutant with feathers and popcorn for eyes, and my teeth were falling out!" well, you know the consciousness theory right? our assumptions create reality. or should i say our conscious thoughts create our reality. well what if in our "dreams" - it is our subconscious creating our reality? this video explains that when we as consciousness or pure awareness depart our physical body, then the experience and perception of this current reality ceases to exist at that moment, and is practically nonexistent to us. therefore, when we are aware of our "dreams", we perceive that reality as real and objective to us. when we wake up? our perception of that dream loses its reality and we are once again objectively aware of this three-dimensional/cubic reality.

i'm not saying all shifts are dreams, and that all dreams are shifts. but i know there are many here who have grown increasingly suspicious of their dreams and are starting to question them, even considering the possibility that they shifted. what's important is that you define your experiences without any external negative influences.

the next time you have an unusually realistic and vivid dream, even about a reality you want to shift to, maybe consider that the dream was most likely a shift.

This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?

Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
