When someone who thinks mental illness/neurodivergence isn’t real asks me to tell them what’s wrong:
Sometimes I just start random crying because of Theodore Finch.
Yes me after watching the movie because I started remembering everything from the book
Idpol around mental illnesses is terrifying, there’s legit kids on this website who are purposely keeping themselves the most miserable they can so they can get some tumblr.com cred in discourse and that’s super fucked up. Neurodivergent activism in this website really need to be rethinked because this anti-recovery, anti-wellness, “healthy coping mechanism? we can’t all be neurotypical karen” bullshit is legitimately harmful.
^please stop this kinda talk There are a lot of problems with this post but the biggest one is that you generalized everything. Mental illness and neurodivergence are two completely different things. I agree that mental illness should not be glorified the way that it is on this site because it is extremely unhealthy. HOWEVER, neurodivergent is such a a completely different freaking thing. For the most part, neurodivergence is NOT something you recover from. It is usually life long, and that means that being anti recovery ISN'T ACTUALLY A THING, because recovery isn't a thing. It's absolutely appealing to ask to get rid of neurodivergent activism when I literally STILL CAN'T TELL SOMEONE I HAVE TOURETTE SYNDROME WITHOUT THEM ASKING ABOUT THE FREAKING SOUTH PARK EPISODE. I'm not "trying to not get better" but I quite literally will never get better because I don't have a mental illness, I have Tourette Syndrome and ADHD and OCD and those things ARE A PART OF ME THAT I AM HAVING TROUBLE ACCEPTING SO I COME TO THIS COMMUNITY BECAUSE IT HELPS ME REALIZE THAT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE DEALING WITH A CHRONIC ILLNESS. Please don't belittle the activism that gives me a hope that someday when I meet a new person and tell them I'm tourettic and they don't ask me about that episode of South Park, and they don't tell me that they knew this guy once with Tourettes, or watched a freaking movie about tourettes, but instead they just say ok and move on and, /here's the important part/ they don't freaking treat me differently.
Okay, so this has been a long time coming.
I’ve noticed people have begun to headcanon Remus as having Tourettes Syndrome as a way to explain his outbursts and cursing, and like, I know representation matters, but the way people are doing it is harmful to actual people with Tourettes.
Tourettes isn’t just people who say inappropriate things. Tourettes is scrunching up your face, or blinking rapidly, or shaking your hands, or scuffing your feet against the floor, or jerky arm movements, or small squeaks, or clearing your throat, or humming.
Tourettes isn’t just a convenient headcanon for a character who’s inappropriate, and treating it as such is not only extremely upsetting for people with Tourettes, but it also spreads the idea that Tourettes is a bad thing.
Tourettes is more than blurting curses or being nasty. Tourettes is people crying because their ticks take everything out of them, but they still can’t stop, because it’s involuntary, and they have to ride it out until their muscles are so sore that they burn and ache the next day.
Tourettes is also people getting anxious for a test and clicking their tongue, and having to be escorted from the room for a private place where they won’t disrupt their classmates.
Tourettes is parents heading into the earliest opportunity to meet a teacher, and sitting the teacher down to explain their kids ticks and explaining what times they need to take their medicine and the proper way to calm their child during an episode so they don’t work themselves up badly.
Tourettes is doctors keeping in mind that their patients are more likely to have things like anxiety, OCD, and bipolar disorder.
Tourettes is people who hit 20 and their ticks are gone, while others are 50 and still experience them.
Tourettes is getting asked, “Omg, is that why you curse?” and having to explain that no, your cursing is a choice, much like it is with most people.
Tourettes is not telling your classmates because they start referencing Family Guy and other media that makes fun of people with Tourettes.
Tourettes is also finding out your friend bought you a gift and spending the day squeaking and slapping any flat surface as fast as you can from excitement.
Tourettes is parents knowing when their kids are getting sick, because their ticks increase, and they know to take them to the doctor to get checked out so whatever sickness is going on can be treated.
Tourettes isn’t the ugly thing some of y’all twist it to be, and some people are uncomfortable when they see someone ticking in public, only to assign this headcanon to characters who fit negative stereotypes and say, “I’m so inclusive!”
Stop. If you’re going to headcanon a character with Tourettes, do it correctly, or don’t do it at all.
When someone asks you to stop doing your tic

How to Make Your Chinese Sound Native (Part I)
Welcome to part I of commonly used word pairs. This is one of the best ways to improve your Chinese and help your speaking sound more native. Let’s look at various “递进关系 (dìjìn guānxì) progressive relationships” and “转折关系 (zhuǎnzhé guānxì) transition relationships” between words. These are very common to use in sentences for everyday conversation. By learning these commonly associated words you can get closer to sounding native faster than ever!
1. “不但 (Búdàn)” …. “而且 (érqiě)”
There are a few ways to express “not only … but also”, in Chinese. One way is to add “不但 (búdàn)” …. “而且 (érqiě)” in a sentence. Put the sentence this way: Noun + 不但 (búdàn) + A, 而且 + B. Adjectives, verbs or phrases could be used in place of A or B.
For example:
Tā búdàn hěn piàoliang, érqiě hěn cōngmíng. 她不但很漂亮,而且很聪明。 She is not only beautiful but also intelligent.
(The Different Ways to Say “因为 (yīnwèi) BECAUSE”and “所以 (suǒyǐ) SO” in Chinese)
2. “不仅 (Bùjǐn)”…..“还 (hái)…..”
The next way to express “not only … but also” is “不仅 (bùjǐn)”…..“还 (hái)…..” The pattern can also be used omitting “还 (hái)”, and instead using adverbs like “也 (yě) and also” in its place.
The structure for this is: Subj. + 不仅 (bùjǐn), 还/也 + … The same subject should apply to both the first and the second part to use it properly.
For example:
Tā bùjǐn huì shuō yīngyǔ, hái huì shuō fǎyǔ. 他不仅会说英语,还会说法语。 He not only speaks English but also speaks French.
3. “虽然 (Suīrán)”…”但是 (dànshì)…”
Next, let’s look at “转折关系 (zhuǎnzhé guānxì) transition relationship” words to use as well. First is: “虽然 (suīrán) although”…”但是 (dànshì) but…”
You can think of it as meaning “although,” but unlike in English, you still need to follow it with a “but” word in Chinese. The structure is easy: “虽然 (suīrán) ⋯⋯, 但是 (dànshì)⋯⋯”
To properly use it, know that “虽然 (suīrán)⋯⋯ 但是 (dànshì)⋯⋯”, expresses that, while the former part of the sentence is true, there is an adverse reaction in the…

Colombia’s prosecution said Friday it would charge more than a dozen former executives of the popular Chiquita bananas on charges they used death squads to increase profits. In a press statement, the prosecution that said 13 former Chiquita executives, including three Americans, one Costa Rican and one Honduran for mass killings by paramilitary groups that took place between 1997 and 2004, will be expected in court to respond to terrorism support charges.
The criminal charges against Chiquita are the first after more than a century of often brutal labor practices, initially under the name of the United Fruit Company.
How much blood is there on a banana?
The charges brought are only about human rights violations between 1990 and 2004 when Chiquita allegedly financed paramilitary groups through subsidiaries and death squads’ front companies in a phenomenon called “para-economics.” Hundreds, possibly thousands of locals were murdered by paramilitary group AUC in Chiquita’s area of influence in the northwestern Uraba region.
The AUC paramilitaries received $1.7 million from Chiquita between 1997 and 2004, the year that possible legal consequences of the mass human rights violations forced the company to leave the country.
No Chiquita executive has ever been criminally charged in Colombia, in spite the fact the prosecution possessed hundreds of testimonies and pieces of evidence linking the banana giant to the death squads’ crimes against humanity.
