the masses of the 21st century crave the communal outpouring and catharsis obtained through regular ritual. they want, intuitively, some organization to the passage of time, points which are marked by a coming together, which is not linked merely to wage-labor. we hope to demonstrate, over the course of this thesis defense, that there exists a newfound resurgence towards a popular, spontaneously-emerging collective chronology, one which represents a movement based in the rejection of capitalist hierarchies of time management, as evinced by the widespread, grassroots popularity of such calendrical memes as "tueday again fine dog," "feliz jueves asuka," and "fuck him in the ass friday," many of which are faithfully "reposted" across social media on their corresponding days of the week.
