MANNY LAYERS, MFA INTERDISCIPLINARY ARTIST

Manny Layers- born Manny Sáenz-Reyes Jr.- is a Queer, Chicanx, Interdisciplinary artist from Las Vegas, Nevada. As a teen they spent his days studying Art & Film at Hunter College; while at night, they studied Queer & Gender Theory in the gay bars + discos of Manhattan. Reyes received their MFA in Contemporary Art Practices from Portland State University, where they founded interdisciplinary student art organization- Time Arts Club. Their work is often presented as a performance that includes Live, Video, Installation, Conceptual and Sound Art- exploring themes in Queer, Gender, Identity and Race. Manny has shown their paintings in juried exhibitions at The Lab in SF, Hunter College in NYC, and in a solx show at Cinema 21 in Portland, OR. They've performed at Portland Art Museum, Disjecta, PNCA, as well as in dozens of bars, galleries and public spaces from Las Vegas to Vanvoucer, B.C., Chicago, and back.
