This is a significant quote because it references how some people misunderstand religion. Some believe that they can donate money and that will absolve them of their sins when in reality religion is all about being a good person. The church is the part that is looking for money, not Jesus or God, the true leaders of Christianity.

This shows that people only look to Jesus when they believe that they need him. Y2K was supposed to be the end of the world so people turned to Jesus looking for help, when people of Christian faith should be looking to Jesus all of the time, not just in times of need.
If God answered all our prayers, there’d be nothing left for us to do ourselves. Life is about problems, and overcoming those problems. And growing and learning from obstacles. If God just fixed everything for us, then there’d be no point in our existence.

This is an important quote because some people look to religion as an easy answer to all of their problems when religion is about having a source of strength and the faith to believe in something bigger than yourself. It is supposed to be a method of guidance in one’s actions, not an overbearing power that can resolve all of our problems.

Our sense is that the criminal system cannot be relied upon to administer justice for Black folks, and was, in fact, historically designed to control Blacks within a racial caste system. There always seemed to be different rules for definitions of crimes, reasons for arrests, charges to be filed and prosecuted, juries of “peers,” views from the bench, verdicts, sentencing, and the rest since the slave times.

This shows how the justice system is not so much a system that instills justice but rather a construct that is meant to keep blacks down and at a disadvantage to their white counterparts. It is time for people who don’t want to shake up the status quo of society to notice that the status quo is unfair and it needs to be changed so that everyone can be treated with equality.
