Hey so friendly reminder about voting and elections that I havenāt seen going around yet but is SUPER IMPORTANT.
Watch what you wear and say while youāre waiting in line for the voting booth/at the polls. It is against federal law to do anything that might be considered campaigning once youāre there, and since we know that voter suppression is the name of the game this election, there will be people looking for ANY reason to remove you from the polling place. And they will nitpick. You have a shirt with a artistic picture of donkey on it? Youāre visibly supporting the Democrats, youāre disqualified from voting. Want to wear a Black Lives Matter shirt? Not there you donāt. Theyāll call it intimidation and kick you out. Pins, buttons, stickers, none of it. Wear the most bland, plain clothes you can imagine.Ā
And then keep your mouth shut. Even the slightest hint of discussion about which candidate youāre voting for can get used against you. Donāt assume the people around you are safe to discuss it with. You might be overheard. There WILL people watching for these things, hoping to get rid of anyone they can. Voter suppression isnāt just about making registration impossible. It happens at the polling stations too. Be smart, be bland, be quiet, and make sure your vote gets in.Ā
Also- and I have seen this mentioned but it bears repeating- DO NOT TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR BALLOT. EVER. Itāll also disqualify your vote. Take a selfie when youāre out of their with your fun little sticker.Ā
So anyway I saw Bohemian Rhapsody (2018) yesterday and I liked it a lot. It made me emotional, I was mouthing along to the songs, Rami malek is fucking wonderful. Queens a big BIG thing in my family and so I know that there were some historical inaccuracies but honestly? It was a fun, inspiring portrayal of an amazing man. Its well shot, the actors are great. Maybe the dialogue gets clunky but itās still good.
And then I see that itās only got 50 odd percent on Rotten Tomatoes which, whatever, critics suck. THEN I read a review to see what everyoneās mad about and let me tell you I am fuming.
I read an economist article that worried that stopping other biopic in 1985 āmight prevent an excellent performance from being a prize-winning one, of the sort that earned Oscars for Tom Hanks in āPhiladelphiaā (1993) and Matthew McConaughey in āDallas Buyers Clubā (2013).ā
What. The. fuck. One of my favourite things about this film is that it didnāt show the horrible, pain-porn, graceful and yet horrific decline into aids that every other film about queer men in the 80ās milks out. The LGBT community knows about the aids crisis. Everyone knows that Freddie died of AIDS related illnesses. Iām so fucking sick of gay tragedies.
I loved this film because instead of being a glorification of his death it was a celebration of his life. You want to know when Freddie Mercury informed the public he had AIDS? The day before he died. He didnāt want to be a poster boy, a spectacle. He was a person outside of his illness.
Queer people donāt exist to die peacefully on your screen, leaving you with a hopeful majestic quote about how really everythingās going to be a alright. Growing up gay I truly thought I wouldnāt be able to be happy. Why? Because in every portrayal of a queer character they either died horribly or died alone.
So yes. I like this film. I like having a film about a queer person that focused on their life instead of their death
The āQueers Die for the Straight Eyeā trope is horrid, present even in biopics, and I wish I could smother it completely.
Yeah sex is great and all but have you ever voted a Republican out of office?
Iām gonna need the entire country to bust a collective nut in November
I work in a kitchen. You have no idea how many people say 'You look like the guy from ratatouille'. Every damn minute.
You ARE the guy from ratatouille. Accept your fate

a lot of my friends have been noting that none of theĀ āget out there and vote!ā posts actually have any resources attached to them, so theyāre great for motivation but if you donāt know how to vote they can really stress you out. so i compiled a list of resources that hopefully can help!
Step 1: Registration
āCan I Voteā is a nonpartisan website that has resources to check if youāre registered to vote.Ā Just clickĀ āvoter registrationā on the front page and input your state.
If you find out you need to register, Vote.gov can tell you your options. Some states will let you do it online!
Step 2: Preparation
Once you know youāre registered, you need to find out where to go on election day (this is important!). Can I vote also has a tool for this.
Different states have different requirements for ID. You can check what you need to bring with you here.
Hereās the most confusing bit! Figuring out who youāre voting for.Ā Donāt know whoās running? Ballotpedia is a godsend. The page in the link looks very confusing, but all you have to do is click your state in each of the right-hand boxes. Those will take you to a page that will explain who from each party is running for the Senate and the House. Ballotpedia will also tell you if your state has same-day voter registration. If youāve missed the cutoff to register, you might still be able to do it on election day, so check that on your stateās voting page!
Preview your ballot online so youāll know what it looks like on the day. Most ballots will also have yes/no votes on important issues, so itās good to know what thatās about before you go. Ballotpedia has a ballot preview tool; just give it your state and it will give you a rundown of all the questions your ballot will throw at you.
Step 3: Voting!
Polling places can be crowded and the wait can be long to vote. Donāt freak out! Bring a book or some music/podcasts to listen to while you wait.
If you canāt make it on the day, you still have options! Find your state on this Ballotpedia page and click to learn more. The page it takes you to will have links and information on how to get an absentee ballot in your state. If you plan on absentee voting, hurry! The deadlines to apply and vote are usually sooner than the actual election day.
Most of all, remember: this election could swing the house and the senate, giving Democrats more control over new laws and legislation for years to come. Youāre not a bad person if you canāt vote, but itās a lot easier than you might think!
Letās get out there and change the world!
Tragic.
