“Fucking hell, and they call me dramatic,” Effy retorted, before her expression softened into something bordering concern. Clearly, she’d misdirected her anger at the wrong person. It’d been known to happen before, but she hadn't seen a reaction this emotional since her time at Hogwarts. She almost felt guilty.
Still, the idea of letting a stranger into her home was uncomfortable, and all too familiar. Effy debated it for a moment, having an internal debate with herself. She didn’t want to sacrifice the privacy of her safe space, not even for a moment. But helping the blonde was the right thing to do, and the decision Casper would’ve chose. She sighed. “Fine. But don’t touch anything, and be quick.” She turned her back, but kept her guard up, opening the door and gesturing for the woman to follow her inside. Her wand was tucked into her boot anyway, should she need it.
Luckily, Mary struggled to understand the woman’s retorts from under the hands she’d clamped over her ears. If she had, a certain somebody might’ve gotten their back up about it, as the stranger’s first comments had started to. Instead, Mary waited not so patiently by the front door, hoping the brunette would give in sooner rather than later. She still had time to come back from this. It hadn’t been a severe event, she just needed some soothing.
“Of course, thank you,” she squeaked once the door had opened, scurrying behind Effy into the home. It took longer than she’d have liked to find the bathroom, but once she’d been directed in, Mary slammed the door and immediately turned on the shower and sink taps. Sinking to the floor as the noise and steam washed over her, Mary attempted to breathe evenly, a finger finding her pulse as she waited. “You’re okay, you’re not going anywhere,” she muttered on a loop, feeling her heart rate slow.
