The problems with Jinu's death
Has anyone ever felt like they just killed jinu off cause they didn't know what to do with him.
Like Jinu's always seemed kinda like suicidal character to me. Okay maybe suicidal is a tad bit too extreme, but like someone who has given up on himself to the extent he just dosent want to try anymore ever again (he wants his memories erased, maybe I'm reaching but that seems like something someone suicidal would do if they had the option).
He had this whole character arc about him trying to try again, to hope again. Hope for so many things, things he's done, things he could still do, his future and most importantly himself. And they ended that arc by him sacrificing himself.
You cannot convince me this was a good writing choice (although if u have a diff opinion plz add it in the comments, id love to read someone else's take, maybe I missed something)
Jinu character kinda went downhill in the end. Like yes, I understand 400 years worth of abuse, manipulation, and hopelessness will not go away in a couple of weeks, I understand why he betrayed rumi.
But if they were gonna go down that road they NEEDED to give him a redemption arc, not an act of sacrifice, a whole arc.
I realise the movies were not big enough to give jinu a whole arc after his betrayal (it ended like 5 min after he dies), and they probably killed him cause it's the only way he could redeem himself in such a short time was sacrificing his soul. But that just dosent work for his character.
I read one post that said that for jinu (I can't really find it again) - 'death is not atonement, it's not redemption it's a loss of potential, because if he had held out hope just a little longer things could be different'. And I really agree there.
Jinu's betrayal was not necessarily, it makes sense, yes, gwi-ma had dug his claws in Jinu's head way too deep for long. But it could have also worked if jinu turned against gwi-ma after 'free', he had someone in his corner, it's not like he needs convincing gwi-ma is wrong, he wants to be free of him, they have a plan for that. He was hoping again.
His attempt to sabotage gwi-ma could have been his redemption, a better redemption.
Sacrifice works for a lot of characters, jinu is not one of them. He was already hopeless, already tiered, more than willing to give up. His growth was about him trying to be hopeful (Jinu's lyrics in free - 'hope only hurts, so I just forget it' and 'And you're waking up all these parts of me that I thought were buried for good' he was hoping again). Sacrifice is, in Jinu's case (I don't know how to put this without sounding like I'm awful) a way of giving up. No more growth, no more potential, no more trying again, just the end.

They should have kept jinu alive so he could try again. Killing him takes away all his growth. Even if they were gonna get him to go through with the betrayal, save the redemption for the next movie, leave it like a cliff hanger, it's not like rumi had given up on him.
i really hope they bring him back in the next movie, even if its just to give him a redemption arc. (Although more rujinu would definitely be a plus, gods they did not get enough screen time)
Anyway like what are ur takes on this?
