I'm confused to how some in our community got the notion that trans men are less oppressed than trans women to begin with...

...besides just the self-segregation. The differences in severity between transmasculine and transfeminine experiences wasn't "acceptable" to talk about because it would somehow undermine unity and so we never learned as a community to talk about oppression that isn't universal. I think that gave the wrong impression to many young trans people.

I'll never know how someone assigned female at birth may have been abused, humiliated, harassed, raped, belittled, forced into roles that even without dysphoria are something no one should be forced into before they could recognize it as abuse, and that's completely fine. I don't need to be re-assured that I'm just as valid as any woman who's assigned female at birth because being transfeminine before coming out isn't like being a young boy. None of these things were the same to begin with.

It's logical that being forced into the political class of woman, and dealing with the physiological consequences while identifying as a man, dehumanized as a result, results in a shitstorm of consequences that leads to abuse trans women can't (by definition) experience (and higher rates of abuse where it overlaps). Trans women of course have a shitstorm as well but we never experienced the humiliation of second class citizenship in that specific way before coming out.

None of that makes us more virtuous or more authentically man or woman or anything, we should be able to talk about like mature fucking adults because we should commit to making sure NO ONE is dehumanized.

Hello person having transgender thoughts but convinced they aren't trans because they don't have the requisite amount of dysphoria they think they need

Hi I transitioned without even thinking I had dysphoria. Like later in hindsight I can go "oh that's probably what it was" but for the first year of my transition I was straight up like "I like being a guy but I like being a girl WAY more" and you can do that!! There is no prerequisite amount of suffering needed to make yourself happier.

nonbinary is not solely a singular gender identity and it doesnt mean that you dont have a gender or that youre a boy and a girl or anything like that. its an umbrella term first and foremost and it encompasses all sorts of binary rejection. androgyne, bigender and other multigender identities, genderfluid, agender, genderless, neutrois, maverique, aporagender, demigenders, are all examples of nonbinary identities. some nonbinary people DO use nonbinary as a single gender term. the best way to know the specifics of someones identity is to just ask us.

not all nonbinary people use they them or even like the set. nonbinary people can use he him, she her, it its, neopronouns, or any combination of these. it is perfectly acceptable and encouraged to default to they them if you do not know a persons pronouns, but the best way to know how to call a nonbinary person is to just ask us.

nonbinary people are not "theys" or "thems" or "they thems" or any term that simplifies us to pronouns. we are not all "things" or "creatures." there are absolutely nonbinary people who are alright with, or even use, these terms, but many of us do not like the dehumanizing aspect of it and find it offensive. the best way to know how to refer to us is to just ask us.

nonbinary people may present any way they want. they can present femininely, masculinely, neutrally, androgynously, or with any other modality. nonbinary people are not required to present "opposite" of their sex and we are not required to present neutrally or androgynously.
