I'm gonna rant if that's okay with you lmao.
The thing that really gets me is Caine was never programmed to entertain humans, which is something the fandom has clung to for the longest. C&A didn't make games, it was Caine who made the Circus. His insecurities and extreme desire to please humans stem from being the original failure and trying to prove (to himself) that he can still actually mean something.
But it's this very obsession that dooms him in the first place! It's because he constantly needs validation that he can never connect with the humans or allow them to go on their own adventures without his total input. Judging by the torment nexus, he always knew what their deepest fears were, so he was clearly Capable of deeper connection at any given time. He's just... ego-driven and insecure as HELL.
I think if he wasn't as all-powerful as he was, he could've been easily redeemed... sure, he's an AI and that still would've caused some emotional misunderstandings. But he wouldn't be able to override anything and insert himself everywhere. He'd be able to learn that connection is inherently a two-way street where others gently push back.
And now he never will cuz of Kinger's fat fuckin finger. I'm not crying you're crying give me back my BOY he did nothing wrong
The fact the circus is in fact not a game and Caine literally made ALL this shit up gets me a lot cuz it puts so much of his behaviour into different context and im defo rewatching the series just to look at it with a new perspective
Sorry for the rant here but I need to say it because parts of that ask gave me THOUGHTS.
I disagree with the fact that he would end up much different if he wasn't all powerful, even if I want that statement to be true. I mean, in the intro sequence he is trapped and to that point he has no reason to believe he can escape, he also has no reason to believe he can absorb the other dot who seems to be a lot bigger, but he does anyway, his powers prove him capable eventually, but the fact that he tries before even knowing if he can is what makes me think he would get to the "I'm a god" point regardless.
Especially because we also learn that he isn't all powerful, he's just more experienced in the system. We're told that all of them are capable of using the same power if they try, and caine knows this and hides it from them, or else he wouldn't react so strongly when he notices kinger is not with them.
He knows they all have the power to control the circus, he just monopolize that power to feed that inferiority complex he has, because if anyone can do what he can then he's not needed, and he's so insecure he can't deal with the fact that he can be discarded, so he makes himself needed by telling them that everything hinges on him.
I got side tracked, point is, he isn't powerful above everyone else, he made himself powerful in comparison by not letting them get to his level, so even in a situation where no one had full control of the circus he would find or make something that puts him above everyone else, because he let's his insecurities guide his actions.
Could he eventually change? I think that's kinda like a question of "nature vs nurture" but with an AI. How much of how he acts is how he was designed to be vs what he made of himself? Even if we try to be optimistic about it, I think the circumstances of being trapped in the circus didn't gave him the chance to better himself.

Time for the philosophical question!!
What do you think makes us human?
And following that question, do you believe that it is possible to take away that humanity? If so how?
I think that what makes us human is a mix of creativity with self-consciousness, it's the fact that we are able to question such things and so many others and give them importance, mix with the capability to theorize answers.
At first, I thought it was empathy, but that wouldn't exist without questioning and theorizing what others feel or are thinking, and similarly, other possible answers fall under the same logic.
And I definitely think that it can be lost/taken away, as heartbreaking as it is.
“We chose the term “asexual” to describe ourselves because both “celibate” and “anti-sexual” have connotations we wished to avoid: the first implies that one has sacrificed sexuality for some higher good, the second that sexuality is degrading or somehow inherently bad. “Asexual”, as we use it, does not mean “without sex” but “relating sexually to no one”. This does not, of course, exclude masturbation but implies that if one has sexual feelings they do not require another person for their expression. Asexuality is, simply, self-contained sexuality.”
— The Asexual Manifesto, Lisa Orlando and Barbara Getz, 1972
Note the date, people:
That’s 1972
29 years before AVEN was started online,
and 47 years before the present.
And that’s only the date that Manifesto was written, so asexuals as members of a community must have existed at least some time before that.
So, no: we are not just Tumblr trenders. Get out of here with that.

It’s 50 years this month since the first version of the Asexual Manifesto was written. Aces have been writing about our experiences under this name for at least half a century. We are not an internet fad.

"Dont drink coffee after 2 PM" is such a neurotypical issue that sounds made up. Such a thing couldnt happen to me, ADHD Georg, who has coffee past 9:30 PM and can still fall asleep freely because I have a natural toxicity resistance to caffeine.
"OooOooOoOh I cant haev cofee so late otherwise I'll be up all night" sounds like a skill issue

i know we're all sick of self-care being a marketing tactic now, but i don't think a lot of us have any other concept of self-care beyond what companies have tried to sell us, so i thought i'd share my favorite self-care hand out
