how do u tell the difference between executive dysfunction, procrastination, and laziness bc fuck idk how to
Idk if you were actually looking for an answer but I talk about this with my therapist a lot so heres his wisdom:
Laziness=You donât want to do a task, so you choose not to, and youâre fine with that. You either dont care if it gets done or you figure someone else will do it.
Procrastination=You want to do the task, but you put it off because it seems difficult/boring/time consuming.
Executive dysfunction=You want to do the task, and intend to at that very moment. There is no significant reason not to, but you canât because your brain is having difficulty transitioning between activities.
The key difference, he points out, is that if you experience guilt or shame from not doing it, then itâs NOT laziness, because those feelings indicate, on some level, a desire to complete the task.
The latter two have more overlap imo, but for myself, I think of it as whether you are having trouble confronting the task itself, or just the transition.
An excellent explanation!
You are allowed to like your own writing. You wrote it, it's tailored to yourself, you should enjoy it. You took plain words and put them in a beautiful order to create an awesome story. Beat that imposter syndrome and be proud.
you know that expression, "dance like no one is watching you?"
try writing like no one is going to read it
it's easier to let yourself go and just enjoy the process of creation when you aren't also playing 6 dimensional chess with your insecurities and anxieties
write because you have fun writing and if you never post it anywhere that's totally fine because you enjoyed your time with the process
My mantras include:
No one has to read this if I don't want them to.
I've gotten through crap before and turned it into something I really enjoyed.
People have enjoyed what I've already published.
I don't have to write it perfectly I just have to write something.
Even Neil Gaiman struggles to write sometimes. (Insert anyone you want here, I guarantee everyone does.)
apologies to anyone who ever thought i was cool and reached out to me only to discover i am just a weird little hermit who can't carry on a conversation to save my life
Did you get enough love, my little dove
Why do you cry?
And I'm sorry I left, but it was for the best
Though it never felt right

*takes a knee* hey gang
so you may or may not know this, but the tumblr metrics system works in a really interesting way where it literally does not count likes. only reblogs. that means if something gets 100 likes and 5 reblogs, that thing actually registers as having 5 notes.
i donât know how everyone finds fic on tumblr, but i tend to go through the tags. what ends up happening is a lot of really great fic gets buried because it was posted, like, a day ago, so it doesnât show up in ârecentâ and it doesnât show up in âtopâ because of lack of interaction.
reblogging is vital to keeping this community alive, otherwise we stagnate
okay since this is in my notifs again: I donât mean only reblogs show up as notes (the little number in the bottom corner of posts). I mean that tumblr has an algorithm, the same as YouTube or tiktok, and the algorithm only registers reblogs. That means that what shows up at the top of the tags and in recommendations all comes down to the number of reblogs.
Reblogging is not just important to show creators supportâ we as a community will literally not be able to find new content unless it circulates or ends up at a visible place in the tags.
Write for yourself first. Write what you like and be in love with what you create. Readers who will love it as well will just follow naturally.

Extremely displeased to announce I just opened my writing doc to find the fic has not yet written itself. Will check back in tomorrow to see if itâs made any progress
One of them will have to get finished eventually, right???
I'm sorry, cringe culture can't come to the phone right now. Why? Oh, cause it's dead!
this is your reminder to write whatever the hell you want. if youâve been debating on wether or not to write that fic donât think twice. just do it. itâs your blog. your idea. write it. share it. no more excuses!
look at me⊠writing is your hobby. you are not a professional or an influencer and you are not being paid for any of this. there is no need for you to feel guilty if you donât post something new. take breaks when you want, log off when you need to, and work on wips in a way that is best for you
