So I want to say that I see an absolute connection between how men use "weaponized incompetence" and how they supposedly "don't understand consent." In both cases, they want us to believe that they don't understand, so it's not their fault and responsibility. They want us to infantilize them so that they don't have any consequences.

It's like mostly women are taught to put up with so much shit... And usually it ends with person simply doesn't change. They have to have consequences so that they can even think about changing. Normalize leaving assholes instead of going to couples counseling with them, normalize being open with them about how they behave like assholes instead of choosing soft words and listening to their whims, seriously.

I hear so often about how women experience shit like sexual coercion/abuse and are still told to go to counseling with this trash! Like no, she needs to leave the rapist, not try to understand his "needs".

You can still be the bigger person and also be angry at the same time, btw. The two aren't mutually exclusive. Anger is a healthy and normal part of a grief cycle. You're allowed to use "unkind" words to describe an unkind person and unkind situations.

there are people who Cannot Leave. hopefully it's not the case for their whole lives but it is the case for them RIGHT NOW. and even trauma and abuse aware communities are shitassfuck bad at knowing how to be a supportive friend to these people and I find it soooo fucking frustrating. it's condescension and scolding and unrealistic standards and victim blaming and minimizing all the way fucking down .

The old "lip syncing this like a real psychopath/sociopath" trend on tiktok kills me.

I love watching people fight about "oh real sociopaths don't act like that! They have no emotions!" or "Psychopaths don't act crazy like this - then you would recognize them!". Then they go on to make their own one and its full, 100% flat affect.

Haha, no. If I show my flat affect even for a few seconds, the people around me become visibly uncomfortable, like they're listening to a constant dissonant chord. They do everything they can to get away from me. I can't use that to manipulate people (the way they're trying to in those vids).

Sure, flat affect is super useful when I wanna be left alone, and sometimes can get me minor things I want as they just want to Make It Stop (TM) and they don't know what exactly is off, but they know it has something to do with me. However, it is entirely useless any other time.

Most often, I'm not trying to manipulate anyone, which means I'm projecting what's called appropriate affect - aka acting like a normal person, because I don't want my loved ones' skin crawling all the time. If I could safely live speaking in my default (flat affect), I would, but I can't because no one would ever want to be around me. I'm more likely to overshoot emotions than I am to undershoot. One looks like I'm just sensitive, maybe a bit high-strung, but the other makes me appear in the wrong part of the Uncanny Valley.
