this truly is what's happening to the economy. the source of "late capitalism" is computers

not even automation but the ability to tighten slack right up to the last point where people can stand it without going bonkers and killing people

and the ability to erase all social aspects from job hunting etc

a hiring manager is not allowed to take a chance on you anymore because they can use computer to 1) source most of their best available choices 2) fully quantify who's best on paper

true creative risk is now being actively punished by almost every institution except indie ones, bc the computer tells them to just push more of the same perfectly calibrated rat-lever slop

but removing all slack from the economy also removes chaos and that chaos has given us some of the best shit we have because you need to be colliding a bunch of random shit together to get cool good new shit

if you look at SF's insane, frantic hivemind striver culture - that is what those people want to export to the entire country, even though most of them are miserable crabs in a bucket

I really think one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned recently is that when someone wants to control a strong woman, the most successful tactic is usually to convince her she’s a bad person.

Think about it. Strong women are used to defying bullies, fighting back, and recovering from people who are clearly trying to humiliate or overtly control them. But being a woman standing up for herself carries cultural shame; she has stepped outside the acceptable box of female helplessness. With varying rates of success, all women are socialized to apologize and shrink themselves to smooth things over. The key to crushing her spirit doesn’t have to be via overt agressive torment, all you have to do is get into her head and convince her she’s “bad,” because even many women who are capable of fighting for their safety and dignity can have a hard time defending their moral goodness in a world that is this obsessed with shaming women.

Many feminists in these circles correctly encourage women to start taking up space, using their voices, and standing up for themselves. This is a good start, but remember that the other half of the picture is that you must also learn to resist the shame that people will inevitably try to dump on you as a result. Standing up for yourself as a woman is not only the brave thing to do, it is also fundamentally good, and you’re a good person for resisting those who would cut you down. Never let anyone convince you that you deserve punishment for your strength. It may seem obvious, but time and time again I have noticed I’ve been caught in the manipulative web of someone slowly trying to convince me I’m inherently bad. No one is inherently bad.
