Women are the only ones supposed to be okay with uncomfortable things.

Be okay with rap lyrics that portray women as objects. Be okay with reading the classics by white male authors who didn't shy away from letting the reader know just how much they hated women. Be okay with the use of imagery depicting violence against women for shock value by metal bands. Be okay with the blonde pop star posing like a dog while a man pulls her hair. Be okay with shaving your body hair. Be okay with applying makeup every day. Be okay with using noncancerous chemicals to straighten your hair. Be okay with ads showing half naked women. Be okay with other cultures' traditions such as head coverings, widows who are thrown in their husband's funeral pyre, female genital mutilation, forced marriages. Be okay with biological males dressing up as a caricature of women and stepping into your spaces. Be okay with language changes such as "chestfeeding" and "people who menstruate". Be okay with having to reconsider calling yourself a lesbian if you're not attracted to trans women and are repulsed by dick. Be okay with unlearning your "genital preference". Be okay with being strangled and beaten by your partner during sex. Be okay with being called a bitch, as it is not a slur. Be okay with the existence of an industry dedicated solely to the sexual exploitation of vulnerable women. Be okay with games from the point of view of a rapist. Be okay with children having access to videos showing women being raped. Be okay with protecting your rapist's career by not coming forward with an accusation. Be okay with the statistics that show your male partner is the person most likely to rape and/or kill you. Be okay with doctors dismissing your health issues. Be okay with your contributions being erased from history and your work being stolen by mediocre men.

The price of men's comfort is women's discomfort. We're supposed to stomach this discomfort all the time, no matter what. And for what? So that men can get to continue living in a system that benefits them and them alone?

tbh I don’t think I’ll ever really forgive the trans movement for indoctrinating so many people into the belief that women speaking about our sex-based oppression is “terfy” and shouldn’t be allowed and any woman who does it wants to genocide trans people. even if they back off of this stance, the damage is done.

me saying “women are oppressed on basis of sex, not gender identity, and we cannot identify out of that oppression” does not mean I think it’s okay to kill or hurt trans people. it does not mean that I agree with right-wingers when they say gender non-conformity is destroying civilization. It does not mean that I am going to vote for politicians who think all gay people/gender non-conforming people are groomers.

it literally just means you cannot change your biological sex (which was never a controversial statement, even among trans people, up until like 5 years ago) and females should have special protections and spaces since we are constantly being preyed upon by males who see us as subhuman sex objects. that doesn’t mean I think all trans people are predators, it means that enough males are predatory toward women that we deserve to have spaces away from them (especially spaces where we’ll be not fully clothed).

we deserve to be able to talk about female-specific oppression without being told we’re evil genocidal nazis. and the fact that they constantly have to misrepresent what our actual beliefs are tells me they know we’re right and it scares them.

On the note of reordering society, I really love Valerie Solanas' assertation that a male rebel or anarchist does not exist. Men cannot rebel against the system, only reorder it. Male "rebels" will still go and rape or abuse women--which is using power to hurt others, just like their own oppressors do. A male, especially one who rapes or abuses, cannot be an anarchist, because anarchy is inherently against power, and rape is the utmost way to use power to hurt someone. It is antithetical to anarchy.

No male rebel can exist because the "anarchist" male simply wants to replace the men on top, not eliminate those positions.

if she enjoys it so much, why would she need to charge? when two adults want to have sex, they just have sex. no money needs to change hands unless one party wants sex and is willing to provide money and the other wants money and is willing to provide sex. men using money to bypass the typical consent process is not sex. if these women just loooooved fucking they'd just go out and fuck and wouldn't need the money. if prostitution is based on a love of sex, why aren't an equal number of men prostitutes? surely an equal number of men love sex right?

I’ve talked about this a lot but something that I think makes it painfully obvious that men see how horrific both rape and forced impregnation and birth are is the movie Alien (1979). Alien came right behind Roe v Wade, of the Hyde act, serious discussions on pregnancy discrimination, and Commonwealth v Pitchford, where a woman who gave herself an “illegal abortion” with knitting needles was put on trial for manslaughter. All this touches back on the fact that horror is very much tied to public fears and broader societal conversations.

In the making of Alien, H.R. Giger wanted the face hugger to be hermaphrodictic in appearance, but him and dir Ridley Scott both wanted the first victim of the alien to be a man because they knew a man being orally raped and impregnated then murdered by the ‘birth’ of that thing would be more shocking than if it was a woman. They know how horrifying it is. Which somehow makes it more sinister that when it’s women actually experiencing it that isn’t not seen as torture. A man being forcibly impregnated (yes with a monster but it’s a horror movie and that argument goes out the window when they specifically wanted a man as the victim to be more horrific) and killed by it is what made what is widely recognized as one of the best scifi horror films in existence.

They know how horrific it is, they just don’t care because it doesn’t happen to them and because they don’t see women as humans.

Remember: everything men say is projection, especially when it's about women. When a man (or a male-allied woman) tells you you'll be sad and alone if you don't want to get married, that's pure projection. HE would be unfulfilled and alone because you were supplying all of the spark and personality and excitement in the relationship. But you'll be fine.

Men are biological parasites. The origins of sex are literally the scientific definition of parasitism. When men wax philosophical about "the other half" or how "men and women complete each other," it's because the host completes the parasite. Again, projection. The parasite is nothing without the host. But men are too short-sighted to realize that it's completely one-sided. The host has absolutely no need for the parasite. In fact, it's the only thing holding her back.

for many people, especially those who suffered under the Soviet Union (or Soviet backed communist puppet regimes) or the descendants of those people, seeing a hammer and sickle on someone’s blog or t shirt can feel as bad as seeing a swastika. especially since many people in eastern Europe suffered under both the communists and the Nazis and were the victims of the Nazi-Soviet alliance. Not to mention the many Jews who had family murdered in Soviet pogroms and other family murdered by the Nazis.

I agree with the rest of the commentary but I don’t think people at either extreme are adopting their politics “because it’s trendy”.

The trendiness makes it more pervasive, which makes it easier to fall into echo chambers that validate those who believe it, and the algorithm is certainly part of the shape that takes now, but people tend to have actual internal reasons—even if they’re bad or fallacious ones or don’t actually make any sense when picked apart—why they consider their politics/beliefs are true or moral.

The popularity is the “how” not the “why”
