Tam is a perfect Simic character
I've been wanting to post this for a few weeks now, because I really like Tam, where she is in the MTG Story, and where I hope her story goes. This is because, from a color pie standpoint, Tam is a perfect Blue-Green character.
What does this mean. Well, let's start with the basics. Blue is the color of perfection. Though, as has been pointed out, this isn't just about being perfect, but the quest for perfection. I personally subscribe to the belief that the Vedalken of Avishkar hold, which is nothing can be perfect. However, we must strive to reach that impossible perfection because that is how we better ourselves and the world around us. That is what Blue is about, becoming better.
In contrast, we have Green, the color of acceptance. It believes the natural world got it right. Everything is a delicate balance, and people, for whatever reason, just end up messing it up. To Green, the world is already perfect. Furthermore, people, like all creatures, already have a role to play in this ecosystem. Because of this, Green very much believes in destiny. That is, you are what you are.
This creates an inherent conflict between these two colors: nature vs. nurture. Are you what you were born to be, as Green believes, or is it the sum of experiences and interactions that make you who you are?
How does Tam fit into all this? Besides being a Simic colored character, her internal conflict is just that: destiny vs choice, nature vs nurture. She was created by Jace with a clear purpose. She was to be his agent to achieve his goal of creating the Echoverse. In her own words, she was "created to betray." And betray she did. During the climax of the Secrets of Strixhaven story, she suddenly turned against her friends and left them to face a massive monster alone, satisfied that she had completed her task for Jace. She followed her destiny, she chose her nature.
Still, she clearly had mixed feelings about it, even going so far as to say she wished it had been harder to betray her friends. As she left, she told them "I want you all to know that you made me happy...the days we spent together were the happiest of my life." Making friends was not part of her mission, and not part of Jace's plan. In fact, it was almost a coincidence that she made friends at all on her unexpected adventure on Lorwyn. She is now in a position where she has reason to go against her destiny, to choose those who nurtured her over her own nature.
This all leads us to where we are now. Tam has chosen to follow her destiny, but the seeds are there for her to change course and choose her own fate. I hope she takes that chance.
I want this card.

Something about seeing Liliana referred to as “Professor Vess” makes me very happy. Also, I love the Dina-Liliana student-mentor relationship.
Magic: The Gathering fans receive exciting news as Dark Horse Comics and Wizards of the Coast announce the next comic series for the franchi
This is exciting!
So you want to support In Universe Magic the Gathering Story
At MagicCon Atlanta 2025, it was announced that first time in years, we'll be receiving a new novel in the world of Magic the Gathering. This will be a Young Adult (YA) novel set in Strixhaven written by Seanan McGuire. Seanan McGuire has been writing MtG stories for years now including Duskmourn under the pen name, Mira Grant, fan favorite stories about Gisa and Geralf such as "Family Game Night", and the Hugo nominated story "Tangles".
People who have been into Magic the Gathering lore have often asked for more story. This is met by people involved in the process explaining that the best way to get this is to engage with the story directly. This means either reading the story directly off the MtG website or the audio recording on the MtG youtube channel is the best way to show for those working on the story show to higher ups that there is a demand and more budget be given for the story.
This novel is the result of the demand shown so far but more novels (YA or not) will depend on the success of this book. Below are some common questions you might have about how/why to support the book.
Why do pre-orders matter to publishers/Wizards of the Coast?
Pre-orders are added to the number of books sold in the first week which is used as a gauge for success and helps with getting on various best seller lists. This metric will probably also be important to WotC based on how sales will affect the green light for future novels.
The following is a comment by the author, Seanan McGuire, herself as seen on Reddit explaining how this novel is an experiment by WOTC.
I would like to support this novel, how do I pre-order?
The book is already listed on the publisher's webpage with links for pre-ordering from various retailers. You can also go to your local bookstore and pre-order it from them or even go through Bookshop.org and select a bookstore of your choice to support with your purchase. If you would like to be charged $20.99 closer to the release of February 17, 2026, Barnes and Noble charges you when it ships.
I do not have the extra funds/I would like to read the book to see if I like it. Is there another way to support?
There sure is! If you are in the United States, go to your local library and request that they order Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos.
If you prefer ebooks, you can request the title on Libby (it may take some time for it to show up. Currently looking up Seanan McGuire upcoming has the Monday, September 29th, release of her newest book so keep checking). The benefit of requesting the book on Libby, is that once it is available, you will get a notification that it is available. At that point you will be given the option to either check it out or place a hold.
This helps out sales because libraries across the country will be buying copies for their patrons. It can also be a way for you to read the book to see if you like it enough to buy it while still helping with that initial pre-order number that publishers like. Also if you like it, you can always let your friends know and they can also check out that same copy from the library. (BTW, not saying that libraries are only in the United States but that is the system I am familiar with and can give advice on)
As a Vorthos, I really love the lore of Magic the Gathering. These novels are ways for us to continue to get more lore and show that we do want more in universe stories. I will be pre-ordering this book myself and I really look forward to this release!
While the cynicism & fear that this will push story into being behind a paywall is valid, this is why engaging with the story in all its facets helps combat that.
Clicking the official links to the webfiction & listening to the audio versions of the story on youtube & embedded on the website and checking out the Planeswalkers Guide articles gives a trackable number for how much use these things get. Which quantifies to how beloved the story is.
Why was the manga brought to the US after how long it was more or less not acknowledged?
Because the BOOM comics & trades did so well. And now there’s a Dark horse comic series that is also revisiting older less well told stories. Because interest was there.
That love & engagement brought back the books. The benefit of this novel in particular is that it distinctly is just widening the plane. It is not necessary for the main story; its additional flavor.
Show love for this novel experiment & that will open doors for more opportunities to add original Magic story pieces for us to enjoy.
Preorder Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos.
There is obviously no way of saying "never" that we can guarantee will work. "There will never be Magic the Gathering books" is a statement that was made...before we did. "The Magic books are cheap to write, work-for-hire, and they make money; they will never end" is also a statement that was made...before they did. So I can't say "Magic Story is excellent advertising that builds and enriches the brand for pennies compared to everything else, it will never die," because "never" is a bad word.
But I can say that there are absolutely no plans to discontinue Magic Story that I know of. That Magic Story is still being plotted out years in advance, and authors are still being put under contract. This book stands apart from Magic Story, and brings new depth to familiar places; it doesn't define them completely.
Supporting Omens of Chaos encourages WotC to invest in more books, whether it's my yearned-for Omens of Convention or another book, by another author. If we can show that the audience is there for books that enrich the Planes we know, we can open doors to things like Gothic thrillers on Innistrad, epic fantasy on Zendikar, and my personal dream project, a full-length haunted carnival horror novel in Duskmourn.
It begins with a pre-order.
AHHHHHHHHH
Today is finally here for TDP or TDK fans!!!
I’m so excited 😆 for the news!!!! 🫢🤭🥺 Hope we see the main three in the trailer
Last time I also heard….The kickstarter had 16,000 fans supporting it as well so… hopefully with the new trailer or maybe more there will be more fans supporting it!
WHO doesn’t want to see Rayllum grow up and have a happy ever after or even our Boy Ez and Zym into Adulthood 🥺🥺🥺
Let’s make this happen people!
This is the most real MTG post of all time cause I'll give you one guess which of these two cards was an absolute menace in standard and had to be banned and which one hasn't seen any play since getting reprinted
I didn’t even realize they reprinted Progenitus…
I love Superman
Pitch me common Spider-Man creatures
Okay, I get Final Fantasy. It's full of monsters, it's full of factions, it's like 30 games of material to choose from. There's dozens of ways a Final Fantasy set could go and honestly I don't think a SINGLE set is going to be able to capture everything we want to see (too many PCs for them all to get Legendary Creatures, for example.) but Spider-Man? You've got the Cops, you've got the Maggia, and then uhh... what? So I want to hear, what sort of creatures do you think can populate a set called "Spider-Man" at common and uncommon? Rare we can fill with Legends, but what about the lower rarities? Also keep in mind that there's plans for MORE Marvel sets, so you don't want to go too deep into Hydra or AIM or anyone who isn't specifically a Spider-Man enemy. MAYBE we can poach The Hand? Daredevil's not getting his own set.
Mysterio usually has some kind of robots or drones
Spider-Slayer robots I've seen The Lizard turn random people into lizard monsters There are some generic symbiotes There was a time when everyone in New York got mutated into spidermen. You could probably get at least 2 creatures, one for the a well made clone of spiderman and one for the more mutated version. They could probably generic up some characters like "High School Bully", "Cat Burglar", "Mad Geneticist", "Wrecking Crew Member"?...I though this would be easier but, a lot of these minor villain back stories are too generic, even if you do have a good name to describe some of them you end up describing all of them.
They could probably say that Hob Goblin isn't legendary because it has been 9 different people.
Probably a bad idea but, bring back Grandeur and put it at common? In the Verses system every character could also be played like a free instant that gave that character +1/+1.
I would LOVE to see Grandeur return, or something similar! And, the last time we saw Grandeur, it was common. Granted, it was in Modern Masters 3, but it would be cool to bring back.
Hey Mark! Hope your day's going alright. I was just watching a video featuring Acererak the Archlich, and that got me thinking about the Venture into the Dungeon mechanic. The term is pretty ambiguous, and with there being a choice between three dungeons, I was wondering if you ever thought that you could expand this mechanic later and add even more dungeons? It seems like these cards would work just fine with even more options. Just wanted to know if this ever came up or if it'd even work.
A fourth Dungeon was added in Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate. A fifth (unofficial) dungeon was done for a one-day event. Perhaps one day we'll do more.
PLEASE give us more dungeons. They’re one of my favorite mechanics. I especially love using the recent Lego D&D minifigures as markers for which room I’m in.
Stella, the adorable cuddlemonkey from The Dragon Prince, is here to bring magical charm to your day! With her fluffy fur, big sparkling eye
THE OFFICIAL STELLA PLUSHIE IS HERE
The way how Makeship works is that it won't go into production unless it's 100%funded within the time limit!
SPREAD THE WORD
I DID THE MATH, AND THERE ARE 200 TOTAL. 154 MORE, YOU GUYS!
Just got mine! Let's make this happen!
So, Gruulfriends fans, how are we doing after the Aetherdrift story? I’d love to hear thoughts, reactions, favorite parts, etc.
How much of his power did Nicol Bolas lose when he was de-sparked? Because if an omenpath opens up to his prison realm I'm worried.
You have good reason to be worried.
May his return come quickly, and may we be found worthy.
me wanting to be right about chandra winning the race for nissa and jace & vraska just straight up stealing the prize is basically me squaring up to a cute emo boy & terrifyingly beautiful gorgon lady, extending my open palms to show them i'm defenseless, and earnestly whispering, "hurt me." my gay little body is ready. (especially given how much kinship i feel with nissa.)
(i will also accept my wife's theory about chandra losing the race fair & square after blowing past numerous times nissa told her she thinks it's too risky and she doesn't want her to get hurt for her, beating herself up, nissa comforting her and telling her that while it hurts not to have her spark, while she desperately wants to get back to zendikar, walking the omenpaths with her beloved is enough. that it might take years to find her home, but in the meantime she's carrying her home with her. and then they get married.)
Ok, but why not both? Chandra wins, Jace and Vraska steal the prize, then Nissa tells Chandra that it’s important to just have Chandra there with her. Honestly, now that I think about it, I wouldn’t be surprised if something like that happened.
At Magic Con Las Vegas, it was mentioned that there was a zombie racing team. Was that the Amonkhet Mummy team?!
It is.
SO. EXCITED. FOR. MORE. MUMMIES!!!
Hey, I... did a thing!
I wanted to make TDP charms for such a long time now, and with S7 rapidly approaching (omg are we even ready?) it felt like the right time. I added a holo sticker and a bookmark too! A pretty glittery shaker charm will join the set in a few days ✨
If you are interested, you can find the link in my bio!
Just bought some. These are absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!
