The statement “trans men face a specific type of oppression because they are trans men” is in fact not a statement about transmisogyny

Y'all are screaming "but trans men are still capable of contributing to misogyny", as if this is some kind of a skill that unlocks when you realize you're a man. As if cis women aren't contributing to misogyny when they're weaponizing gender norms against another cis woman. Hell, trans women are sometimes contributing to transmisogyny too, in a similar fashion.

There's no group of people that's immune from contributing to misogyny. Women and trans people of any gender, however, do not benefit from misogyny as a whole.

A trans man who is misogynistic does not benefit from it socially. He still will be put below cis women, down in the gender failure zone. This is just the reality of existing as trans in a transphobic society.

And no, it doesn't mean it's okay to be misogynistic, but acting like there's something special about misogyny from trans men, different from when a woman (cis or trans) or a nonbinary person does it, is nonsensical.

a) why did you make the post

b) the copypasta mentioned here (in an extremely dismissive tone, mind you) is an anonymous ask that has been sent to numerous accounts (myself included), with these accounts being exclusively those of transgender women. The ask threatens rape against transgender women, specifically being commited by transgender men to "cure" these women of supposed "baeddelism" (with the term being described as a mental disease).

can we stop doing constant "both sides" discussions for 10 seconds and recognise that this is stemming from a major harassment campaign being targeted specifically and deliberately at transgender women?

I'm going to answer this in good faith because you are probably like me and very frustrated

A. I made the post because I am frustrated with being seen as the villain of the queer community because I happen to be male. I did not send those asks. I would never do something like that. I refuse to even use the term "baeddel" because I don't like name calling. And yet here we are anyways with the moment I stand up for myself (and I also did mention and stand up for trans women in the original post mind you) I am dismissed out of hand with immense hostility.

B. You don't get to blame an entire subset of people for the actions of a few awful people. That's shitty and reductive. Just because the person who groomed me as a kid happened to be a trans woman doesn't mean I resent, distrust, or hate all trans women because it wasn't her transness or her womanhood that caused her to do that.

Also, "DNI men unless you are woke" in your bio? Really?

When a trans woman says “do not call me dude or bro,” that is not an invitation to explain to her why you are going to call her that. Simply do not use the words. If you are told “do not misgender me,” it does not matter how much you explain how you aren’t misgendering her when you use a term that’s misgendering her. It does not matter if you don’t think you’re misgendering her by using a masculine term in a gender neutral way.

All you are telling her is that you do not care about her as a person and will misgender her as long as you feel like you are justified in doing so, which is the exact same logic used by transphobes in misgendering trans people. You cannot tell someone what their gender is. You cannot see their true gender, better than them, and decide what words you want to use.

When you say you are using bro or dude in a gender neutral way, you are not calming her down. You are telling her that she is to blame for the dysphoria caused by your misgendering.

All you need to do is not use the words she tells you not to use. Oftentimes it’s two words. All you need to do is not call one person two specific words. It’s tiring seeing people willing to die on this hill, defending their right to misgender trans women because they can’t let go of two words for a little bit.

To be clear, this post is primarily about the purposeful misgendering of trans women as an argumentative tactic. When people are trying to argue against trans women who speak up about transmisogyny, they often use masculine terms to anger the person they’re arguing against, then act as if that’s just the way they talk.

This is a purposeful tactic used to make trans women look dangerous, unstable, and hysterical, ready to get angry at nothing, when it is in fact a continuous and measured harassment.

If you see someone arguing against a trans woman pointing out transmisogyny and they use bro or dude, recognize that this is a deliberate harassment tactic. This tactic can be utilized by anyone, including trans people.

Do not let those who use this tactic get away with it.

I’m not going to judge you for venting in the tags about being misgendered with seemingly innocuous terms (that’s pretty much what the original post was) but please keep in mind this is primarily about the discrimination against trans women through masculine terms.

This includes they/themming trans women who specifically use she/her, this is about calling trans women “man,” and “buddy” and “dude,” and “bro.” This is about every method used by anyone, including those within the queer community, that misgenders and degrades the identities of trans women in a way invisible to anyone but us.

Again, recognize it when this happens and call it out. Do not let people trick you into viewing trans women expressing their pain as hysterical, angry, and foolish.

I think we need to have higher standards as transmascs. Yesterday I saw someone saying "my friends told me T is poison but it's not like they discouraged me from transitioning" and friend, I think telling you that the HRT you want is poison counts as discouraging you from transitioning

i've made this post before but it bares repeating. it's always so wild to see young trans kids be like "oh i'm 18 it's too late for me" and more importantly seeing that being like, pushed from other trans people bc when i came out at 15 back in 2009, literally What You Did was just. wait to turn 18 so you could move to a major city and start transitioning. i got on hormones at 23 (nhs waitlists) and top surgery right before my 25th birthday. i consider myself a pretty early transitioner. i'm 30 now and i still experience changes from my hormones bc that's what it is to exist as a human and have hormones in your body. you're fine.
