Ooh, this is actually really interesting.

Because my first thought was well, that’s Lenore, Kodos’ daughter, vs Carol, someone he actually likes. Now— Make no mistake, Jim knows who Lenore is. He knows Kodos’ face, it’s haunted him for years, he’s one of only 9 survivors that saw it, he’d see it in his daughter. People act like him kissing her in TCoTK was sincere, when it was total manipulation.

And then I thought hm, well, maybe he knows more about Carol than he’s letting on. Later in the film he says what admiral’s daughter??? So I don’t think he knew exactly who she was, but in that moment, on the shuttle, I think genius!jim knew something was off. An additional science officer he didn’t request? A weapons specialist? Being assigned along with the 72 torpedos being loaded on his ship when he’s only supposed to fire one? Oh yeah, he knew she wasn’t who she said.

And what’s his first reaction in both situations? To flirt. To mask. To put on a show. You literally see him pulling on the mask with that smirk. And people still today tell jokes about hahahaha Captain Kirk and all the girls he kisses and falls in love with hahaha! When in reality, the boy has played the role so well, even the so called fans believe it 60 years later.

TL;DR- Jim gives the same face to women he doesn’t trust in every universe.

I firmly believe what ever you’re obsessed with at 11/12 years old becomes a core part of who you are, regardless if you lose interest in it or not. Maybe some of you were lucky and were obsessed with warrior cats or smth, and if you’re real unlucky it was probably twilight.
