Names
Names are so fascinating to me right now. I’m not someone who would ever name a child something like Sarah, Alice or Amy- I don’t want my child to have to use a second initial to distinguish between them and four others in their class! But I also don’t want them to have a name others laugh at, struggle to spell their whole lives, or think is made up. So all of the names I love are of trees or plants or nature, or beautiful names that have been forgotten. Girls are a lot easier than boys names though! We have said we will give our first boy the middle name James, the name of Hannah’s gramps who died last year, and for a girl they will have the middle name Claire, the name of my mum who died two months ago. But as I’m taking my wife’s surname, and keeping mine as a middle name, our children will also take it as a middle name. I’m not sure if three middle names (as we would like another one that we ‘choose’ as such) is too much? For example, the favourite girls names currently, including my mothers name, my maiden name as a middle name and our surname, would make up the initials LNCSL. Too much? For a boy, it would be RFJSL. Also maybe too much. But I love them all together as a medley. And kids don’t need to always say their middle names, and it also gives them a choice if they ever want to change! Names are interesting! And we have a lovely list that we add to constantly, ready for future baby Lyon when they arrive!
My wife wants to use her maiden name as a middle name too! Our future baby will have a mouth full of names, so I understand! At the end of the day, they are only summoned by one name (or maybe two if they have a nickname) so I’d say it is okay to have a long name!
