“Let’s make a deal. You cook dinner tonight and tomorrow, when we wake up, I’ll make breakfast.”
Pasha grinned. “I hope you like pancakes.”
“Deal.”
“...that was smooth. you have to know that.”
Just …watching, This caused confusion to the solider within her, shaking her head she loosely placed her hand on her hips. “Who is winning?” she asked curiously, the comfortable weight placed on her back reminded the female that her weapon was close by. She was not going to allow robots win this war.
“Our team,” he said, smiling slightly. he watched Tony do some death-defying stunt move and destroy some robots. The Avengers were mighty, all right. He tried not to wonder what he, Bruce (not the other guy) brought to the team. If they needed him. That was a rabbit hole he didn’t need to jump down, not during a fight.
He glanced at her again. “You look like you’d rather be fighting,” he said. “I’m sure they’d appreciate the extra set of hands.”
“You need a buffer. Someone to call Mr. Stark off when he gets to be too much for you. A distraction so you can get work done. Or relaxing done.”
“I need a Stark-free Zone. six foot radius, No Stark.”
“Well control isn’t something I strive for.
“Cleanliness, though. That is what I’m all about.”
“Cleanliness is control. you’re making decisions about your environment, deciding what’s acceptable and what isn’t.”
Had she not been completely idiotic drunk, Lou would have contained her temper much better, and even laughed at the comment, but that much alcohol tended to bring out the worst in her…
Jaw clenching, she didn’t respond with words, instead her fist flew out, connecting with some part of the man’s face.
She almost immediately yelped, pulling her hand back and flailing it a bit.
“Shit! Shit!”
A fist connected with his jaw, his head rolling with the hit. For a moment he saw white and rage roiled in his stomach. He took a deep breath, trying for calm; he closed his eyes, rubbing at his jaw.
“you just go around punching people?” He asked, his voice devoid of emotion.
“gonna get yourself into trouble some day, kid.”
Ally- soulbranded
witchy woman:
Rachel didn’t believe in a god, but if she did, she’d think he had a really screwed up sense of humor.
The High Council of Witches and SHIELD–a matched set in the Shadow Government of Weird Shit collection. For a long time, the partnership served them both well. Council got an in with vanilla government; SHIELD got extra coverage of the extra-human. Win-win.
Of course, there’s a downside to partnerships. When the Triskelion fell, the ties that bound it to the Council pulled tight, and the Council toppled with it. Two massive, far-reaching, seemingly invincible organizations rendered into nothing more than rubble and dust.
At first, she’d thought it was a good thing. Rachel and the Council had never exactly shared an amicable relationship, and in her view, secrets cost lives. So here they were, with a chance to build something new. Build it the way it was supposed to be. Build it right.
And guess who ended up leading that particular charge? Rachel I shouldn’t be responsible for a goldfish Collins. See, a totally screwed-up divine joke.
It was logical to reach out to the Avengers, to try to build the nascent not-Council foundations with the same alliances that had preceded them. So here she was, in New York freaking City, trying to control her massive twitching at the obscene amount of people and the fact that she couldn’t see the sky. Couldn’t they be headquartered in, like, Montana? Seriously.
She restrained her fidgeting by grabbing on to the straps of her bag–her backpack, because she wasn’t letting that out of her sight, while a suited lackey took her duffle to god-knows-where. If he rifled through her underwear, she was gonna break his nose.
Banner seemed nice enough, though. She’d spoken with him a few times by Skype. For a fleeting moment, she considered taking a peek at his true nature–at the duality contained within him. But then she shoved that impulse away. That was just rude.
“It’s just Rachel,” she said, thumbs hooked in the shoulder straps of her bag, her mouth slightly open and eyes wide as she took in the enormity of Avengers Tower. It was both awesome and really freaking intimidating. “Haven’t really decided on the new titles yet. This is what you call home–or is it just HQ?”
He gave a slight nod, trying not to smile at her girlish gesture. He also noted that she was trying not to be overwhelmed by the grandiosity of the Tower- Bruce himself had advised subtlety and economy, but you can’t tell Tony a goddamn thing about anything- and couldn’t help but smile.
“Rachel,” he repeated, and then shrugged at her question. did he have a home? home meant peace, home meant a place to rest. He’d been at war with himself for years. “I, uh. There’s quarters in my lab. Science never sleeps.” another self-deprecating smile, and a gesture for her to follow him.
“you want the tour now, or do you wanna settle in first? Pepper has a floor prepared for your use- top secret magical preparations, I hear, with all the cutting edge witchcrafting equipment- and there’s a suite of rooms for you. If you don’t like that much privacy, though, there’s quarters ready with the lab staff.”
Answering threads. like for a starter.

☭ bruce ;;
“I’m Bruce, yes,” he said, letting a small smile pull the corners of his mouth, though there was no humour in it. “Sometimes it’s the other guy, the Big Green Monster, but that’s not who I am.” He felt that if anyone knew what that felt like, it would be this James Buchanan Barnes. Bucky, Steve insisted on calling him. But Bruce could see there was only the barest trace of the young man Steve had known. The fallen hero, the boon companion of Captain America even before he’d been a hero. Bucky Barnes must have been a hell of a guy. Bruce wished he’d have known him.
“my friends call me Bruce, anyway.” he said, meeting the other’s eyes. “I don’t know exactly what they took, but i can help you find… something. History. your story.” Memories make a person who they are; he suspected that HYDRA had taken even that. He felt rage begin to swell in him at the though and closed his eyes. not fair, the other guy insisted, but Bruce shook his head. Nothing we can do now, big guy.
“You go by James, or is there something else you like? a nickname?”
“My friends call me Bruce.”
Friends. Were they, then? The corner of his mouth lifted in starved half-smile. Bruce had had plenty of time to attack, if that was his goal, and besides–James had seen the news footage. There was something in Banner that he recognized in himself: chiefly, a distaste for ever being that.
“James is okay,” he said, his brow tightening. It was another needlessly complicated question. My friends call me Bruce. He swallowed and gave a tight nod. “But my…friends call me Bucky.”
He licked his lips and looked down as if unsure what to do now. Stage One had been completed: Make contact. But honestly, he’d never expected Banner to be so willing to help.
“History.” That seemed right, and he nodded again. “Yes… They took–me. I want to know–I need to know–who I was… before. My story.” A shadow passed over his eyes, and he looked away. “I can’t face him without knowing.”
“all right, Bucky it is,” Bruce said, giving one of hi small,self-deprecating smiles. He listened, smile fading as James- Bucky- tried to put into words what he wanted. funny how what Bucky wanted was similar to what Bruce wanted- to find out who he was, and maybe what context he has now. (I adore you echoes through his head, but he will get the better of it. He will stop thinking of her and wondering why. He doesn’t need to know.)
“Well, Bucky Barnes is fairly easy to look up. I’ll help you.” The real answers, the one Bruce suspected Bucky wanted, would be with Steve. “My computer’s at home, do you, uh. Want to come with me?”
When The Disappeared Find Each Other- noblexdead
lost but not forgotten:
He watched Banner rein himself in, the conscious choices in body language to show he was not a threat. A ghost of a smile flitted around the corners of his mouth, and he let himself relax a little as well. Mutual threat abatement.
“ ┅ Maybe I can help you.”
His brow furrowed and he gave Banner an appraising look. He’d expected hostility, especially after… what he’d done. But Bruce’s eyes were kind and his tone seemed genuine.
“I want to know who I am,” he said slowly, each word still rough and halting. “What they… took from me.”
It was the best way he could phrase it. Before he found Steve (or let Steve find him), he needed to know. He needed to know if the Winter Soldier was a monster of his own creation. He felt Banner looking at him, and he averted his gaze, almost fearfully, like he expected violence.
“ ┅ hey. you got a name?”
What a profound feeling from such a simple question. He couldn’t remember the last time someone had asked him that. Weapons did not have names. Assets did not have names–only codewords. A name implied that he was human, that he was something more than metal and destruction.
“…James Buchanan Barnes.” He said the full name, the way Steve had on the helicarrier, the way it had repeated endlessly through his mind since that day. That ghost-smile gained a little substance, and he looked up. “You are Bruce.”
Do you think Clint's ever pissed of Fury and then asked him how angry he is, fishing for him to say 'Fury-ous'? Because I think about that a lot
omg anon this is beautiful
you are a beautiful person
this is exactly the kind of fucking nerd shit Clint Barton would do and I love it
like I can picture the look on his face when Fury says it, then realizes what he said, and then Clint’s little smirk and then maybe a quiet little “badum-tsss” before he runs like hell and climbs up the nearest tree/high space
