Hurricane Melissa made landfall near New Hope, Jamaica a few hours ago, on October 28th, as a Category 5 hurricane with maximum winds at over 185 mph (~298 kmh).
Jamaica has never experienced a hurricane this strong, and the immediate and lasting impacts on the island and in the surrounding region have been reported as catastrophic by numerous outlets.
The UN World Meteorological Organization has described Hurricane Melissa as "the storm of the century". The estimated storm surge of up to 13 feet (4 meters) and rainfall up to 40 inches (100 cm) will cause catastrophic flash flooding and landslides.
Over 2 million people are currently in critical danger and need.

I get that some therians aren’t aware because they’re not black or come from a society where this slur isn’t prominent, but please keep this in mind. This distinction matters. We want this platform to be a safe space for all alterhumans, not just a select few.

this doesn't happen passively or by accident. if people don't feel welcome or safe here on account of their race then that is something we are actively doing to them. either we unpack and deal with the stuff we internalised from growing up in a white supremacist culture or we will continue to foster a racially segregated community. it isn't enough to think that racism is bad abstractly, we've been breathing it in since we were born and need to work hard against it. we are the only people who can go through life pretending this doesn't exist. a lot of people are willing to take that option because it's easy and it's not us that pays for it. we cannot allow ourselves to do it and we cannot allow each other to do it.

So, I finally got around to watching Adolescence on Netflix and now I see why the manosphere is in full on damage control mode. This show did its research and did SO MANY things right because of it.
Firstly, they didn't have Jamie cartoonishly espousing his beliefs like a cartoon supervillain, because they did their research, and knew these boys are being carefully taught by the adults in the manosphere to hide their power level. They showed the full reality of what Jamie had become under the tutelage of the manosphere by letting their teachings silently guide his actions.
Second, they almost completely removed Katie from the conversation. That was so important because men would have jumped all over that to devalue the messaging by calling it another piece of feminist trash centered around women. Men were center stage in this, portrayed in respectful honesty, flaws and all.
Jamie's dad was legitimately an alright dude, but he had his family walking on eggshells with those tantrums of his, and I imagine the truth of that was such an uncomfortable but necessary glimpse in the mirror for men. My brother has never laid hands on a woman in his life either, but he has that same inability to emotionally regulate when he gets angry, and I think it was important for men to see what it looks like for the people around them to deal with. By centering the male experience in an honest way, in making a piece of media men might not completely dismiss outright, they get to see what they look from the point of a spectator's view, and that's so goddamned important.
Third, they left a lot of stuff about the Red Pill confusing and vague. This is going to spur parents to do more research, which is so fucking necessary, and it's going to keep the manosphere from saying, "Well, this and this and this is completely misconstrued." This is important because if we want legislation passed to protect young people from the Manosphere, we need to focus on the long term damage over time done to the psyche, on the actual damage they're doing to young boys, rather than focus on criticizing rhetoric they've got meticulously built dialog trees to defend. We need to build a case that the Manosphere is full of predators absolutely breaking the psyches of young boys for money.
Something I need people to understand is the Manosphere would crumble without adolescent views. If any of them go to meet-ups, you can see pictures with their fans, and they're just awash in a sea of tween and teen boys. It's fucking horrifying. We would do damage this pipeline would never recover from if we remove their access to children.

on a similar note to that 'i think a lot of you guys forget people hate women' post; I think a lot of you guys forget how bad racism truly is and how deeply pervasive and entrenched antiblackness is.
whenever people say "you make everything about race/racism" i just want to say EVERYTHING IS ABOUT RACE/RACISM
the patriarchy, climate change, capitalism, MANY of the major issues we think about are inextricably linked to white supremacy and colonialism. so no you cannot be a racist feminist, you cannot be a climate activist and also be racist, we wont get queer liberation without black liberation. and vice versa. we arent moving from where we are as a society until you guys realize how deeply rooted in Everything racism and antiblackness is.
I actually fully disagree - you CAN be deeply racist/antiblack and be, in name, for feminism/transfeminism, queer/trans liberation, abolition, etc.
Because to these people, liberation does not include Blackness. It doesn’t include freedom for *all* of us. They want to be removed from the harms of patriarchy, etc. but maintain the benefits of white supremacy. They want to stop suffering for THEIR marginalizations, because they want the power they felt they were entitled to all along.
Pretending that being progressive or marginalized in one way means they couldn’t POSSIBLY be racist/antiblack since we “all in this together” simply leads to Black and Brown folks having their actual experiences denied and ignored to allow someone “noble intent”, and to allow us to become fodder for their redemption arc.
Your movement is gonna have racist/antiblack members regardless, the question is: when they harm us, what will you do about it?

i worded it poorly considering, but when i say you can't be x and also be racist, i mean that if you reached your goal, it wouldn't be effective for the whole of humanity, and many people who proclaim themselves activists don't actually care about the whole of humanity in the first place
and i argue that you Can't reach your goal anyway, if you're a racist "activist." white feminism can strive all it wants to free only white women from the patriarchy, white queer activists can fight only for white queer liberation, but that won't be achieved with all these complex interlocking oppressions. it's an impasse. you can't truly solve one without solving another and another, can't take it one at a time when all of these systems function simultaneously. you can call yourself these things and you can even make certain strides toward your goal, fine, but you will always be held back by your exclusion of black people, of other oppressed groups beside your own
(which is why intersectionality and critical race theory ought to be taught in schools)
