Aw it means so much to hear folks finding works through the library! Sometimes it can be a little hard to remember that the library has an effect on the people outside of my inner circle so knowing that people actively use it to find content they love brings me so much joy!

There’s such an ocean of amazing creators and stories in the community I’ve never come across two that are the same. Every single one brings something special and unique to the table. There’s so much more diversity in the community than you might not see in mainstream media but with how indie based the medium is it can be hard to know where to start. I can only hope to share some of the joy that I have for the community that it gives to me everyday! For folks not familiar with the Webcomic Library here’s a direct link to the Database. It’s updated and added to regularly as well as archived by the Library of Congress!

The Library is a huge project that I put a lot of love into. Most of what you see is curated and gathered on my own. If you’re ever interested in supporting the library beyond what you see here, I have a Linktree with a variety of ways to do so. You can help add or edit comics to the library, follow on social media, or send a few dollars towards the project.

do you ever think about how the series of events that lead to Dumbledore’s death in HBP was literally set into motion by Oliver Wood’s passion for Quidditch

okay but literally I can’t stop thinking about this -

it is of course possible that Draco would have gotten the Death Eaters into the school some other way if the Vanishing Cabinet hadn’t created the perfect opportunity, but it wasn’t looking likely.

so like, it’s reasonable enough to assume that Dumbledore’s death (at the hands of Snape specifically, obviously I know he was going to die soon enough from the curse, but the timing does make a difference so I’m still focused on this) occurred because of the Death Eaters getting into the school. the reason the Death Eaters were able to get into the school was because of the Vanishing Cabinet in the Room of Requirement, which Draco repaired.

the Vanishing Cabinet ended up in the Room of Requirement over the summer of 1996, presumably (reasoning for this is in the next paragraph), and Draco discovered it there sometime in his 6th year. but the only reason he had even known what it was, and what it could do, was because he had spoken with….

Graham Montague, a Slytherin who was in 7th year in 1995-1996 (when Harry & co were in 5th year). Montague was shoved into the Vanishing Cabinet in that year by Fred and George Weasley, because he was a part of the Inquisitorial Squad and was presumably about to take points from the Weasley twins for doing something disruptive. and we know that Montague got stuck in a limbo between the two connected cabinets, due to one of them being broken - he could hear things being discussed in Borgin & Burkes, which is how he was able to let Malfoy know that the other “end of the tunnel”, or basically the other cabinet, was in Borgin & Burkes (which, Draco would already have seen as a 12-year-old, in the summer before his 2nd year, when he visited the shop with his father - fun fact, Harry hid in that exact cabinet while Lucius Malfoy was transacting with Borgin).

Montague would never have had this experience at all if the cabinet hadn’t been broken in the first place. but in fact, we know exactly how, when, why, and by whom the cabinet was broken.

it was in the fall of 1992, when Nearly Headless Nick observed that Harry had gotten in trouble with Filch, and prompted Peeves to drop that very same cabinet from a large height in order to cause a distraction for Filch, allowing Harry to get out of trouble.

why was Harry in trouble in the first place? because he was “tracking mud” in the corridors.

why was he tracking mud in the corridors? because Oliver Wood had had him out on the Quidditch pitch all day even though it had been literally storming outside. so Harry came into the castle drenched and splattered with mud.

Dumbledore literally died because of how obsessed Oliver Wood was with winning the Quidditch Cup.

third, equally funny option: his name was already cheddar when they adopted him. both of them think it’s an absurd goddamn name but neither of them know you can just change an animal’s name if you don’t like it. no one ever told them and they’re both much too proper to even conceptualize this notion on their own. the dog was named cheddar and that’s very unfortunate but cheddar he will remain.

people always talk about how capitalism is so innovative, but conveniently leaves out that the innovation is only for the sake of profit they never mention that when the prosperity of the entire population isn’t profitable, everyone but the ruling class is left to die

We don’t have the technology to turn the sahara into farmland, and even if we did, we shouldn’t do it. Deserts are critical habitats, not vast empty waistlands.

Turning them into farmland would wipe out countless species. There’s also a reason little grows there. What we can do, is place solar farms out in deserts. A small fraction of the sahara could power the world. That is within our technological ability. This is where captialism strangles us.

Our food production is just fine. We produce too much. Our distribution system however, is not. It focuses on where the most money can be gained, to hell with everyone else. This is where capitalism strangles us.

We also don’t need to turn salt water into fresh water. We need to manage our fresh water better. Use that tech to clean it, and stop poluting it in the first place with fracking and dumping sewage and replacing lead pipes. And to stop letting one or two conglomarates monopolize them. This is where capitalists strangle us.

The problem is not a lack of resources. We have plenty. The problem is captitalism mismanaging and ruining the plentiful resources we have. By opening up new resources such as “turning the sahara into farmland” or turning salt water into fresh water, we are just giving capitalists more resources to destroy and throttle. And destroying more critical environments. We’re not actually fixing the problems.
