Why educating people on the environment matters;

i think i like the routine

it feels better

healthier than what i had before,

in the way surgeons poke at your spine

checking for signs you aren’t paralyzed

at least i’m not the deer in headlights anymore

i crossed the road and left 

fields that stretched

beyond the eye,

with winds that howled

no end,

into forests with trees planted in rows

measured with mechanical  precision

the distance separating each sapling,

careful not to let any grow  too  close

if i stare straight ahead

the trees blur together sometimes

into walls, the sky an arrow,

the distance ahead so great that there's nothing there at all

and if i think too much,

the walls feel like a portal to those fields

a fear pedalling me in circles

that if i take too many steps either way

every unpaved path will take me to what’s familiar

and i’ll end up back there

blinded by something greater than me,

that lacked the detachment of the forest

or the emptiness of the field

the road would be paved, at least.
