au where Gil Galad isn't actually anyone's son and instead is the corporeal manifestation of the Idea of the High Kingship of the Noldor. He doesn't actually know this either, and keeps trying to figure out who his father is, since everyone else he knows has parents, and he has to fit into the succession somehow! He just... can't remember how...
From bottom to top: Turin Turambar, Aredhel, Maeglin, Haleth, Gil-galid, Beren and Lúthien, Feanor and his seven sons, Elwing, Vingilótë, Ancalagon.

Day 6 of @tolkienofcolourweek - Lúthien (theme: Mixed)
y’all, i doubt i’m the first person to come up with it, but i have a new Tolkien crack theory:
Tom Bombadil and Goldberry are in fact Beren and Luthien.
Parallels Between the Pairs:
loving and happy magical couples with healthy relationships
They are morally good and everyone who isn’t evil loves them
Bombadil and Goldberry (B&G) have mysterious origins; nobody knows what happens to mortal men after death but Beren and Luthien (B&L) have been reborn before
B&G don’t really get involved in broader world issues because they are content; after their marriage B&L live happily ever after and don’t get involved in the war
Similarly, the forces of evil dare not bother either couple once they are secure in their land
Beren and Bombadil both first meet their wives in magical woodlands
both couples fall in love in fairy-tale type stories. B&L have the whole star-crossed-lovers, quest for the Silmaril, returning from the dead thing. B&G meet when she tries to drag him under the water (possibly to drown him), but he escapes and later returns and marries her.
both love stories start out a little creepy by modern standards (Beren chasing Luthien through the forest, Bombadil “capturing” Goldberry) but end up happy and healthy
both couples include a character inspired by someone Tolkien cared about and was close to: Luthien is inspired by his wife Edith, Bombadil is inspired by his close friend C.S. Lewis
Luthien and Goldberry Parallels:
Luthien and Goldberry are both associated with Spring. When Beren first meets Luthien, her song “released the sudden spring”(1). Bombadil sings of Goldberry “…till the merry spring, when the River-daughter [Goldberry] dances down the withy-path to bathe in the water.”(2)
On a similar note, Luthien and Goldberry both wear golden flowers: Luthien has “flowers of gold upon her mantle and her sleeves”(3), and Goldberry’s “belt was of gold, shaped like a chain of flag lilies”(4)
they appear young and are extremely beautiful
they have mystical maternal heritage: Luthien is the daughter of Melian the Maia, Goldberry is the daughter of the River
Both seem like elf maidens but are not quite so
they both have magical powers: Goldberry’s way with water and Luthien’s…everything
Beren and Bombadil Parallels:
They both spend significant portions of time gallivanting through the woods
They are both connected to nature: Beren spends years living in the wild and learns to speak to animals, Bombadil speaks to trees and knows the songs to deal with all the wild things in his land.
They both resist the temptation of powerful and dangerous objects: Bombadil is not even remotely tempted by the ring, and Beren is able to hold a Silmaril without being burnt and gives it freely to Thingol.

i start my fall semester soon so i unfortunately won’t be able to finish and post art as often, but i have more wips and sketches for now. thank you for being patient with me :)
1. annatar & celebrimbor
2. galadriel & melian
3. elendil & gil-galad, pre last alliance
4. finrod with the nauglamir (and his harp on the left!)
coming up with increasingly pathetic excuses for not letting other people connect to my bluetooth speaker because i don’t want to have to explain why it’s called “Maglor”
Morgulien learns to use Procreate via Tolkien Fanart: Episode 1
I have been “bullied” into posting my art, so… here’s a Nienor WIP.
I’m very new to digital art so all constructive feedback/advice is appreciated!
“Tolkien wasn’t good at writing women” well explain this
@mizeliza i think you’re onto something
always amused when I think about how Ost-in-Edhil used to be run by Galadriel and Celeborn and then Celebrimbor did a little coup and Galadriel left for Lórinand via Khazad-dûm with little Celebrían (and Celeborn didn't because he is a dwarf racist)
because like.
Celebrimbor, First Age: I hate my father and everything he does. how dare he try to take over a realm from its Arafinwean lord.
Celebrimbor, Second Age: unless…
Celebrimbor, having just stated through the nth committee meeting with Galadriel that week: Damn, okay, I get it now. :/ (But I'm going to do it right.)
“Tolkien wasn’t good at writing women” well explain this
tolkien, describing his characters:
The St Sebastianification of Celebrimbor.
“falling in love with a beautiful woman you met in the forest” ranked on a scale from “Beren” to “Túrin Turambar”
the fucked up sequel:
“marrying a powerful elven lord you met in the forest” ranked on a scale from “Melian” to “Aredhel”
the struggle between the urge to post my tolkien art and the fear that someone i know irl will find and recognize it.
