There is something so bittersweet about returning to older fandoms for me now. It's like returning home, but the home needs a good sweeping and no one has tended to the garden in a long time.

It's still warm and cozy, despite the subtle draft that now whistles through. Everything is still in place, just with a soft blanket of dust. The pictures of everyone are still hung up, though they no longer provide an accurate reference of the people in them.

It's okay, but it's different from when you first experienced or enjoyed that piece of media. Sort of a graveyard of hyperfixations, but you know it will be alright because a few people still occasionally stop by and leave flowers.

i have such a deep affection for the third doctor. he is such an asshole and so fed up with being stuck on earth, he lashes out and projects onto everybody around him. hes cunty and a queen and he needs to be taken down a peg.

he always has a snarky remark to make about the military and he cannot help but be an absolute snarky asshole half the time. the entire time hes doing all this he is saying it in his Gentleman way. he wears way too many layers and karate chops people and he drives around in a yellow car he named bessie (side note he wants to fuck that car)

his favorite pastime is bickering with the brigadier and pretending he isnt having the time of his life during back and forth with the master. he will say something with the most cocky confidence and then fail fantastically. he is awesome, yet incredibly lame at the same time.

he comes across as a polite "old chap" but he is genuinely so bitter and snarky, i adore him

Doctor Who started to go downhill when they stopped letting the companions serve absolute fits. Now they get, like, maybe three different memorable outfits, if that.

I miss Zoe and Sarah Jane serving looks while nonsense happens around them.

Companions' outfits really peaked in Classic Who.

when my shelter cat passes by me, he pauses for a second, and looks up. He is waiting for me to lean down, and touch my hand against his side, so that when he keeps walking, my hand skims across his fur. he doesn't really need attention. he has his own thoughts and plans. but after more than a year of living in our home, he has come to expect a moment of kindness whenever he crosses my path. if I don't do it, he will follow me. "where is your hand?" he asks, with his plaintive and impatient eyes. I give it to him. he bumps against it like a balloon before wandering away. this is a poem to me

it fucking sucks that animals can get sick in so many of the same ways humans can but you cant explain it to them. you can't tell your cat their diagnosis and ask their thoughts on treatment. your dog may never understand the concept of medicine. you just need to hope they trust you and know you're trying to help them.
