The Batman: Gotham's Demon
This is the prologue of a fanfic of mine about the universe of The Batman (2004). It's still on progress but I hope to release it anytime soon. I have other Batman stories published on Fanfiction.net, if you're interested.
Alright, let's get into it.
tw mentioned of male r@pe, torture, and violence.
Selina Kyle was a beautiful woman—Intelligent, highly skilled in martial arts, and known for having the softest touch in the country. However, not many people could say they had seen her in a good mood. Behind her enchanting voice and sharp sarcasm, her serious and efficient approach to work made it clear: messing with her was a bad idea. She was a ruthless detective.
Perhaps that was why she had received an invitation of a friend at the Metropolis’ Police Department. Detective Ellen Yin had requested Selina’s help for a mission.
“Nice to see you, dear,” said Selina, stirring her coffee absently with a spoon. “But I didn’t expect to see you again under these circumstances.”
Selina raised an eyebrow, glancing sideways at Yin’s police office.
“Sorry, Seli,” Yin replied with a soft smile. “But the situation called for it.”
“Alright then, tell me—how can I help you?”
“It’s more like… how can you help Metropolis police.” Yin took a sip of her coffee. “You know about Gotham, right?”
“Yeah, I was born there. But my mom and I moved out when I was five.” Selina tapped with her fingers against her cup. “I haven’t known anything about the place recently.”
“It’s more… complicated now,” Yin admitted. “The city became a no-man’s land after all the patients of Arkham Asylum escaped and took over. The politicians, the police force, the billionaires—everyone was killed or forced to vanish.”
“Hmm…” Selina played with a lock of her hair. “Even the Waynes? I remember they had a son about our age.”
“Yes.” Yin responded. “I heard they were one of the biggest pillars of the city. Thomas and Martha Wayne were killed—along with their butler—during the Arkham escape. Their son went missing for a few years, but then, his body was found in a normal house. Sexually abused and strangled…”
“Damn…” Selina signed. “And what exactly do your bosses want with a place like that?”
“As for now, Seli,” Yin murmured, absentmindedly stirring her coffee. “there’s a legend circulating about some kind of… ‘Batman’ haunting Gotham. It leaves bats symbols on the skin of its victims, it disfigured them, it ripped their bodies apart. Some survivors claimed they saw a giant humanoid bat. Sounds like another serial killer to me, but for some reason, my bosses are very interested. They requested you to investigate the case. Me, Bennet, and the others have been assigned to watch your back.”
“Cute.” Seline purred, resting her head on her hand. “I’m sure I can handle it myself, but your company is always a delight, my dear. Still… don’t mind if I suspect they want to get rid of us.”
Selina smirk.
“Sending us to that hellhole? Someone must have really pissed them off. I promise it wasn’t me.” Selina smiled innocently. Maybe too much.
“I know, I know,” Yin chuckled. “Ethan thinks the same. But what can we do? Orders are orders. Let’s just hope to make it back alive.”
“Let’s really hope…”
Both women giggled, their laughter tinged with unease. Neither of them knew what horrors awaited them in Gotham.
But they barely imagined what they would be fighting against.
