“No Women” Is Not a Genre

I’m a screenwriter. I just went to a big Hollywood pitchfest.

I was pitching to a production company looking for thrillers. I started telling them my thriller pitch, and the guy stopped me mid sentence “Is this a story about a woman?” I told him yes. He told me he didn’t even want to hear it, they were only interested in guy stories. Later, when I told other guys, they thought it was fine — they said, “Well, he just wanted a different genre.”

But “no women” isn’t a genre. It’s a problem.
