this guy was my second project for my toy design class! im very proud of how the physical painted model turned out, and i definitely prefer working on a larger model (this toy is around 70mm i think? tall)
this project was meant to be a platform toy, so basically we would design a simple(ish) model that can be repainted with all sorts of designs. the jester design was inspired by one of my classmates ideas for how the platform toy could be painted, after we passed around blank versions of them on paper for everyone to fill in
he was printed via your typical plastic 3d printing, which means i had to sand and prime him after to try and fill in the imperfections. i didnt have anything other than sand paper and my own hands so the sanding job didnt turn out great.
model was made in Fusion and cleaned up in Nomad sculpt
i decided to redraw an old flutterbat sticker design and then when i went to date it i saw that the original drawing is from the same exact day three years ago! wow... fate....!!!
i made this transgender angel i hope you like it, i have this stuff available on my new etsy shop
i want to post on tumblr more but i get scared about being perceived , im so high strung about my image on instagram i just want to post anything i want on tumblr i really need a platform for that. but how do you even gain traction on tumblr? its so different from what im used to
been thinking ab a certain boy who lived or whatever .......... more thoughts under the cut ->
my harry is transgender and gay and brown and disabled and mentally ill. i have a lot of thoughts on what its like for harry growing up transgender in his unique situation in the 90s wizarding world..........
if you can't read my handwriting:
indian dad x british mom, messy unwashed hair, downturned tired eyes, soft nose, moles, hand-me-down clothes, underweight & underdeveloped. Harry Potter (born Harriot) July 31st, 1980.
1st Year Harry is prone to binge eating and food hoarding, and only stops doing the latter when he forgets about something he stoed and it rots, and his bunkmates complain. He is relieved to find out that he can visit the house elves whenever he gets hungry. It takes a while for Harry to stop feeling like he needs to resource hoard to have food available.
(TEEN HARRY !!!
Hair still crazy, but washed
Transitioning carves out more masculine features
Full, bushy eyebrows
Still wears hand-me-downs (Weasleys) even though he doesn't have to, he doesn't like spending his inheritance
Mrs Weasley cuts his hair, but very infrequently because he likes to hide his face behind it)
Q: hagrid headcanons???
A: since hagrids the first safe person harry knows he's also the first person to affirm his gender and stuff, although when hagrid comes to get harry that first time they meet harry doesnt really know hes trans yet just that hes more comfortable being "tomboyish", he was allowed to keep his hair short for convenience and wore dudley's old clothes so hagrid probably does a double take bc he expected cute little baby harriot to grow into a lovely little lady . he buys harry some nice (girls) clothes and notices how uncomfortable harry is in them and then goes and replaces them with boys clothes after. and also i think hagrid would be the first person to know and also be the most easily supportive like hagrid doesnt think about it as anything beyond Well if thats what makes Harry comfortable then it's good!
Q: would Harry still be the "boy who lived" when it came to hagrid/the entire wizard world? i can't imagine the dursleys were very accepting so Harry definitely adored hagrid's affection. I'd like to imagine ron and hermione were extremely accepting, ron more confused and hermione more "oh yes! ok, that's cool! hello :)"
A: i think it wouldn't be as simple as boy who lived or girl who lived but he's definitely known as the "girl who lived" up until he actually arrives at hogwarts. it's hard because being stealth is never an option for harry considering everyone already knows who he is!! but i imagine being trans in the wizarding world isnt UNHEARD of, but it's definitely equally as unusual as it is in the muggle world. but at the same time harry kind of has more important things to worry about than people misgendering him. like its an aspect of his identity and it contributes to the isolation he experiences in his youth, but being gendered correctly is just another part of respect: people who don't respect him in canon don't respect that part of him either, and vice versa.
i think its easier if u think of harry's "weirdness" as one package- ppl don't see his queerness and his exceptionalism as separate things, they just know he's really weird and really important. the dudleys just group his weird gender stuff in with his weird wizard stuff. they are violently transphobic ofc but not any more than they are violently anti magic. ron is willing to accept harry he's just not super well versed on how to do it. hermione does everything in her power sometimes to a fault to make harry comfortable. im still kind of debating how dorming works. i think he still dorms with ron & the other boys but i'm not sure what the process to get there looks like.... altho i think hagrid advocates openly for the hogwarts staff+dumbledore to always call him Harry and not Harriot, and even tries to get people to use he/him pronouns but i think people are generally pretty confused....
Q: I'm curious, since y'know magic. do you think harry would go out of his way to find a gender affirming spell or would that rid the whole trans concept? i feel like there are many pros and cons for both concepts (not using a spell and using a spell), but let me know what you think!
A: it's really long and wordy but basically wizarding society's conservatism + people's ability to literally use magic (charms, potions, etc) to temporarily change their appearance means that trans wizards almost always are completely stealth, which also means that the development of better gender-affirming magics never happens since theyre essentially living underground. surgery and hrt has permanent effects on the body and actually CHANGES the chemistry of someone, whilst gender affirming charms and potions are temporary "bandaid" fixes, but for wizards living stealth it was the best they could get......until harry comes along and like, he's mega famous and CANT be stealth so when he starts transitioning he chooses to use muggle medicine which ofc people are like you're a freak... but when public opinion of him shifts thru the yrs and after the war everyone loves him, trans wizards start coming out of the woodwork and advances in transition magics actually start happening... but in the end i think the 'best' or most effective methods of transitioning incorporate muggle science no matter what, because even in a magical world theres value in muggle knowledge
so my answer is that its a mixture, he definitely uses muggle HRT but might use some gender-affirming magic, but its not gender-affirming because it alters ur gender its like just basic methods like the magical version of makeup, binding, etc
also in this au hermione is also transgender but shes stealth & is already using a mixture of magic and HRT when harry meets her
harry decides to pursue transition via a mixture of magical and nonmagical means. he medically transitions with muggle HRT because the research in transgender topics is way further along in muggles than in wizards. he also binds unsafely with medical tape for a while until hermione notices his breathlessness and lectures him on how unsafe the practice is! and she teaches him to instead sometimes use glamour spells to flatten his chest. hermione herself uses glamours and potions to present femininely, which she explains to harry when she comes out to him. harry is one of the only wizards that hermione trusts to be around without glamours, but she comes to trust ron in the same way and others as she grows older.
now: draco
i love draco as a character for exploration of redemption as a theme.
in my au draco and harry are queer t4t duh.... draco is amab (possibly intersex?) and an enby man, harry is a trans man, draco is gay and harry is unlabeled
my handwriting reads:
"Child draco - Heavily styled hair, hair is very thin, sharp features, pointy!, thin brows, upturned eyes, thin lips, mole under eye* (*i said this and then forgot to draw it)
Teen draco - ptsd riddled, chronically stressed and irrationally angry all the time, even more pointy, generally looks like shit for anyone who bothers to notice, probably nonbinary but doesn't realize until well into adulthood because he has other shit to worry about. Hair gets rather long and unkempt during the war's progression- stops caring as much about his appearance. yes, he still takes the mark in this au."
