Just had a realization I should’ve had years ago. NYC is “the city that never sleeps” because it’s home to a higher-than-average number of artists and when have you ever met an artist with a normal sleep schedule?
I was recently reminded of a dream I had a couple months ago. I remember it vividly but it’s hard to describe properly so bear with me. This might not be 100% accurate, but it’s what I remember.
So I was lost in some kind of bog or swamp. It was a place full of large, bright green trees and a mix of rivers and ponds and other such things. Suddenly I stumbled into a clearing with an older woman. She asked me for my help repairing bridges and docks in the area. I happily obliged because if someone asks for help of course I’ll do what I can. So we go around splitting wood and repairing ropes and all this stuff and as I go on fixing stuff I hear her talking and she hands me the things I need for each repair. I come across a large expanse of like 5 broken planks in a rope bridge going from tree to tree that was about 10 feet from the ground. I looked behind me to where she was last speaking from and she wasn’t there. I peeked through the hole in the bridge and saw her standing beneath me on firmly packed earth, telling me it was safe to jump down and I did so. As I stood back to my feet I heard her voice all around me. “Fix what you know you can with the materials you are given, then take time to gather more. This bridge looks mendable but will take more than you have and will break again once you turn around.” And then I woke up.
I know I haven’t been posting in a while, but I thought this was important.
Since more and more people are out taking walks with this whole thing going on right now (be safe, by the way, and practice your social distancing as best you can!!) I feel like it’s as good a time as any to start picking up the trash around the neighborhood! If you can, take a couple bags of some kind and a pair of gloves, plastic, gardening, or otherwise, and just pick up the garbage you see along your walk! Not only will you help the environment and the overall appearance of the area, but you can get in a more dynamic workout! The two bags in the picture above came from just 2 blocks of walking!

Warlock Patron: The Discourse
Your patron is the embodiment of petty strife and unnecessary and dramatized infighting. They could be any number of trickster deities, fiends, or fey creatures, or perhaps you simply gravitate to the concept of causing drama and have found a way to wield it. As a warlock of the Discourse, you are locked in a constant struggle to reign in the chaos in a way that is productive, and many who have come before you have accidentally let themselves be consumed.
It is best to keep in mind that although useful and sometimes necessary, the Discourse rarely has your best interests in mind, seeing its patrons as little more than temporary and mostly disposable pawns in an ever-shifting game.
Expanded Spell List
The Discourse lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock list for you.
1st level: dissonant whispers, compelled duel 2nd level: phantasmal force, detect thoughts 3rd level: bestow curse, feign death 4th level: phantasmal killer, confusion 5th level: modify memory, dominate person
Repeated Exposure

Callout Post
At 6th level, you have started to learn how to use the Discourse to your advantage. When you hit a creature with an attack, you may force it to make a Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, its allies regard it as an enemy for 1 minute (although they do not necessarily view you as an ally because of this). On its next turn, you compel it to either defend itself (take the Dodge action), or attempt to lay low (take the Hide action), after which it ends its turn. Any creature who had line of sight on your initial attack has advantage on attacks against the targeted creature for 1 minute. Once you have used this ability, you cannot use it again until you complete long rest.
Extensive Blacklist
At 10th level, you gain mastery over what you do and don’t want to see and how to avoid it. You gain immunity to one condition (paralyzed, stunned, charmed, blinded, deafened, or frightened) and one damage type (acid, cold, lightning, fire, psychic, radiant, or necrotic). Additionally, you can no longer be surprised, and you add your Charisma modifier to your passive perception.
Cut Through the Bullshit
At 14th level, you have gained the ability to see through the Discourse, and the ability to help or hinder others to see through it. You gain True Sight and darkvision out to 120 feet. Pick one of the following: Help (once per long or short rest, you may cast Telepathic Bond without using material components or a spell slot) or Hinder (once per long or short rest, you may cast Mislead without using material components or a spell slot).

bedroom is slightly messy (uh oh)
ADHD organization tips:
-out of sight = out of mind, as in, if you can’t see it, you will forget it exists. Set up your space such that, when everything is put away, you can still see it all (remove closet doors, shallow shelves so nothing is behind anything else, etc.)
-one-step access. None of this “to get to this thing, I have to get a stool, remove the box in front of it, grab the thing i want, put the box back, put the stool back-” nah. One step access. Not even “this thing belongs behind this thing”. Open drawer. Is thing right there? good. Have to move other thing to get to it? bad. Multi-steps means you’ll rarely use it, and when you do, it will NEVER GET PUT AWAY AGAIN. Multi-step access is for deep storage and the items that get the least frequent use.
-an item’s home is within arm’s reach of where you are most likely to use it/want to put it down.
-items can have multiple homes and that’s ok. I have three pencil/pen cans around my room, and like two or three places where I’m “allowed” to place things like my wallet and keys (and I am NOT allowed to place them anywhere else, because then I’ll lose them forever).
-examine the mess on your floor and determine the categories, then ask why those things are on the floor.
—Why pile of clean clothes? because I didn’t want to fold them up. Solution: fuck folding clothes, clothes only get sorted into categories and then dumped into drawers or crates. That’s fine and ok.
—Why pile of kinda-dirty-but-can-still-wear clothes? because I don’t want to put them away (i wore them once) but i don’t want to put them in the laundry basket (they’re not really dirty yet). Solution: have a home for “kinda dirty” clothes. I drape mine over the edge of my hamper.
—- a bunch of trash on your floor? Because the trash can is all the way over there. Solution: put a bunch of trash cans all around your room.
—- pile of papers on desk? because i need to put them in my files where they’ll eventually go. Solution: one of those cute magazine boxes on desk, specifically for “to file” papers.
-permanent piles on surfaces go in cute little boxes exactly where they already were. e.g. pile on nightstand consisting of wallet, keys, meds, phone, etc??? cute little box right on the nightstand for all that stuff you’ll grab every day. Pile on desk of shit that you need to take back out to the kitchen but haven’t yet? grab a little tray specifically to accumulate things you’ll take back out to the kitchen at some point. box on nightstand for “stuff that could/usually does go in purse, but isn’t there today for whatever reason”. Lil box for “random tiny shit that I should put away at some point” like hair ties, safety pins, push pins, etc.
-it’s ok for things to “live” in the place where you’ll need them next, even if it’s not “away”, so long as those things aren’t in your way. My pjs live on my bed, because I’m going to wear them again tonight. If I’m feeling fancy I’ll fold them and put them at the foot of the bed. Most days I’ll just yeet them on there and that’s where they Belong. My meds belong in a lil box on my nightstand, because that’s where I’ll set out my pills for the next day.
- “dump station” = right inside the door, where you’ll divest yourself of everything automatically anyways. Hook for your purse, hook for workbag, a few hooks for coats etc (even though coats “live” in the closet, it’s ok for them to live here too), box/tray for wallet etc, place for shoes. Because I’m gonna dump them the moment I walk in the door anyway, and if their “place” isn’t right there, they’re just gonna end up part of the mess
-beware the corner piles. Observe them, question them, solve them. Shit accumulates in “dead spots” on the floor where you don’t walk often. Watch those piles. What are those piles? Where are their homes? And why aren’t they there? Are their homes too inaccessible? Did I accidentally start a new hobby and none of the supplies for that have a home yet? Is it something “in progress” that I still intend to work on/do something with?
you’ll still go through the cycles of accumulating mess and destroying it all in one go, but the mess accumulated will be so much less and so much easier to deal with.

anxiety and anger are extremely persistent in ADHD because we fixate on that input and devote all our runtime to trying to “fix” it when in reality the only way to fix it is to leave it alone. considering we are diagnosed with Chronic Cannot Leave It Alone Disease, that is Difficult.
when you’re outside one of these loops, take inventory of all the things you do that suck you into devoting all your attention to them. when i was a kid, the way i avoided asthma attacks was i played video games while taking my meds, so i wouldn’t be fixating on the anxiety and making the asthma worse. nowadays, i avoid anger spirals by also playing video games (in my experience turn-based strategy is a hyperfocus superhighway so i use those) so i’m forced to divert resources to do this other thing.

Yeah, my body is a temple. Ancient and crumbling, with lots of random scribbles and imagery on the walls, cursed and lair to some unspeakable cosmic horror that's been buried deeply and forgotten by human history.
Sometimes, when even the act of merely existing is painful, one can become a person with something twisted or wrong about their heart--a self they didn’t intend to become.
I’ve been someone I never wanted to be for a very long time now... so long, in fact, that I think I forgot the person I truly desired to be. If I were to give up who I currently am, a person that is 2 parts bad coping mechanisms and 1 part hiding from other humans with a dash of fucked up circadian rhythm (shaken and strained into a martini glass garnished with Gay Witch Aesthetics™), I’d be left... empty. I know nothing of my own dreams and passions beyond faking smiles and watching shows to avoid thinking of my own feelings. I am a stranger to the self I was meant to become. But, I want--no. I need that to change. Not only for myself, but for the people I hurt along the way before I got to this point.
I have no idea how I’m supposed to remember or decide who I actually want to be, but I’m hoping that writing this out, sending this prayer for my potential-future-self out into the universe, is somehow a step in the right direction.
