I *think * that 'Wani' was first used in Vathara's Embers. Fuck me if I know which Chapter, but I believe there was a translation in the AN at the bottom? (if that wasn't where it started it was probably how it spread at least)
CHAPTER 25 ENDING AUTHOR’S NOTES! Is the first mention of the Wani in Embers, with translation as “alligator”, and no hints of Vathara pulling from another source when naming. Given how well Embers is known in the fandom, and thus how likely it is that others used the name from there and/or just assumed it was the canon name (I’ve already got like three asks from people who assumed it was), I think we have a winner! (Unless anyone knows of a Wani the predates it. Do link if you do.)
Also totally forgot that I’d named my Teruko as a nod to Embers. So. Double nod. (If I’d remembered that, I might have bothered to keep her personality anywhere close to the Lieutenant Teruko in Embers. Though I can’t say I’m disappointed with how Crewman Teruko is turning out.)

I honestly think I have read more fanfictions about Zuko himself than I have “actual” literature. It should be considered a genre at this point. Like how am I ever supposed to care about any other character ever when Zuko exists? It’s a real problem.

I started with little zuko cause a friend rec’d me it and then told me to read your other works too. Now I’m too afraid to read the grenade. I’m enjoying the happy until I can’t wait for updates then I’ll slink into TTS…
I’ve actually gotten a few asks from peeps afraid of Towards the Sun or actively glad they’ve avoided it, so Imma take this opportunity to clear up a few things for those of you who haven’t read it!
1) Uncle is NOT a villain in this. You like the Zuko/Iroh dynamic in my other fics? This is the same Iroh. But in this AU Zuko is doing his Fire Lord “literally working himself to death” thing, and Uncle makes some poor life choices on how to rectify the situation. I do promise an eventual reconciliation.
2) I have it on recent-reader-authority that it’s not nearly as painful to read now that the prologue is complete (ch 1-19, YES that’s all prologue, oh man people’s FACES when they realized that, even though I’d been saying it from the beginning). It was most agonizing for folks who had to wait a week between chapters. Now you can binge right on past the pain to the Fuck Yeah immense-satisfaction-conclusion. Based on comments, it appears to be extremely cathartic.
3) Book One is going to be a wild awesome ride, and the most angsty parts are all in the past. There will still be occasional heartbreak per my usual style, but Zuko’s going to be picking up friends, allies, and a certain set of pets from here on out. We are going INTERNATIONAL baby.
4) Azula gets a life-changing field trip! Azula gets all the field trips.
5) Suki Suki Suki Suki–
So for realsies, if you’re afraid of this story, don’t be. It’s definitely my heaviest story, but I didn’t start it to write angst!Zuko. I started it to write Fire Lord Zuko having field trips with the people the show missed and gaining his people’s love and support along the way (with quality terrifying assistance from Political Wingman Azula.)

Also as someone who literally just read the entirety of Towards the Sun today, I can attest that it is nowhere near as painful having read the end. It’s just that gosh darn ONE chapter that I will not speak of that almost caused me to real person cry which I NEVER do. Like I have never actually cried reading a book and I was so close I thought it was the thing that was going to break me. BUT I DIDN’T! so ha. I am still undefeated.

Lol someone said zuko only helped katara during the southern raiders episode just to get her to like him, it was never about helping her heal. By that logic, zuko only helped sokka, aang and katara just to get them to like him while risking his life in all three occasions. What do you think ?
Well, when Zuko joins the Gaang, he’s “good now”. And even though the narrative pokes fun at him for it “Why am I so bad at being good?”, it is not so straight-forward. Because from his own perspective, Zuko’s always been good. He tried to follow the rules, stay loyal to his shithead father, to be what he was taught a Crown Prince should be.
Then he realizes that all that was complete BS, and suddenly, he has to come up with a completely new way of being good. So what does he do?
He activates Iroh-mode.

When my cat got out, we called and called for him, and then, later that night, I remembered similar advice to this, and so put his little scratching pad, which he adores, on the front porch. Not even half an hour later, I heard a thump, opened the door, and there was his big butt, meowing at me.

Hong Kong police = Terrorist.
This is the truth of what happened in Hong Kong last night.
To you who is reading this right now,
We, Hongkongers just experienced a terrorist attack planned and executed by our Hong Kong Police Force. At about 10pm today, our police force rushed into our railway system in Prince Edward station, got in to the carriage and indifferently beat up all the people in it regardless they are protesters or simply passengers. They ignored the weapon guidelines and fired tear gas indoor in the carriage which is in fact lethal. Also, they beat up innocent people causing them seriously wounded. Some passengers kneeled before them asking them to stop but the response they got were beaten ever harder. Meanwhile, the police haven’t arrested the passengers after they got beaten up, showing that the only purpose of their brutality was to sort their anger to violence but not dispersing the crowd.
Not only that, they refused to let first aider enter gated station with wounded inside even the first aider was begging and promising to ditch all his gears. He even pleaded that the police could beat him up after he has saved the people inside. The police still wouldn’t let the first aid team in.
We, Hongkongers are experiencing a humanitarian crisis and we hope that people all over the world can help us in anyways you can think of. Thank you and we will stay strong.

After seeing the same superhero arc in every Marvel movie, the squandered subversion in expectations from Game of Thrones, the tired consistent revamps of previously done ideas from Disney,, I petition that we just rerelease Megamind in theaters again.
