the dialogue is obscenely nonsensical. nothing anyone says makes ANY sense and you can tell because the voice actors just seem like they’re having a really hard time. Lani Minella sounds so stiltled and she’s usually p talented, it’s just that the material she’s working with is atrocious. oh and whoever voices the big dumb guy literally phases in and out of an Australian (?) accent, like half the time he sounds American
speaking of things not making sense, the plot is.. like, what. what happens? i dont even remember what happens. sonny’s grandpa put some weird-ass relics in a lake at the bottom of a cave?? sonny has some feelings and makes some comics that he distributes everywhere for no reason?? one of the contestants is sneaky, or something? idk??
the “sonny takes over the show!” thing is completely outlandish. “taking over the show” apparently means he is literally the only crew member who exists, and also reality TV DOES NOT WORK LIKE THAT, they film it and edit it to pieces and then they air it months later, so he wouldn’t be able to hijack it in that way, like they’d just fly out there and cancel everything. so, like
oh and the aesthetics. ooooohhhh LORD the aesthetics. they could have done SO MUCH here and instead we get these bland, unmemorable environments and boring music. the thing could have taken place in Michigan. the only New Zealand-ish things are the presence of sheep (they have those in Michigan too though) and the random Maori artifacts and words, which are hardly even acknowledged or incorporated into the game except on a very shallow level. and i guess there’s local birds and plants and shit. whatever. what is the puzzle palace?? its bad. it looks so bad. everyone is wearing hideous workout attire. the only visually pleasing thing in the game is Sonny’s hair. everything looks bAD
i still dont get the plot. i cant think about it for too long because it just makes me want to claw my eyes out
and the characters????? like??? george is boring, Bess is kind of funny but just bc she’s so thirsty, Sonny is disappointing and even kind of annoying at times, the other contestants are practically interchangeable. i dont care about anyone in this game. i dont even remember their names. rock? lani? kamilla?
hmmmmm what else… oh the fucking PUZZLEs are so awful i don’t even want to get into it like jfc
im sure there are other things i could yell about but in conclusion, this game is horrendous and the thought that someone might have played this as their FIRST NANCY DREW GAME keeps me up at night
