Woah… this isn’t wave…. Not a genjutsu either… Anyways I’m Naruto Uzumaki and I’m going to be the Hokage! (Yet another dc crossover blog run by Coolcat101s. This is early on in the series, he got teleported during the wave arc.)

One of the best ways to learn about a village is to observe its children and see what kind of cool bloodline jutsu they have. With that in mind naruto uses his new tree walking abilities to hide in the rafters of one of the orphanages to observing the goings on there

"Hello?" Mae called at the random person in the rafters, "Who are you?"

Shi- “howd ya see me?! I was hiding real good too…”

"Um, sir," she said, "You were very obviously hiding up in the rafters, hell one of the kids spotted you and told me."

"You're going to have to get down from there now." Mae explained, despite the fact that this should be obvious.

"Once you get down, please state who you are, why you're here and lay all weapons onto the ground." she orders.

“Hmph”

The young ninja jumps down. He doesn’t get rid of his weapons since he despite what people say he isn’t an idiot, but he doesn’t have anything out in any obvious places

“Kid musta been a sensor or somethin…. I’m Naruto Uzumaki! Believe it! And I was just tryin to figure out how strong the people in this village are since it seems like I’ll be stuck here til my team can find me”

When the person jumped down, Mae suddenly realised that whoever this was, wasn't just a person- he was a child. He looked 12 at most.

She stares blankly at him, waiting for him to put down his weapons.

When he doesn't- as if she would believe he didn't have weapons- she spoke, "Put down the weapons," a life-time of dealing with kids made her add, "And don't even think about lying that you don't have them, I know you do."

"I heard that, and no she wasn't, you were just... very unsubtle," she says, "Ok, uh- Naruto, you from around here?"

Mae paused, trying to figure out what to say next, "Why would you come here then? And- this is a city not a village."

The second part of what he said finally computed for her, "Wait- you don't have anywhere to stay?"

Naruto had certainly considered lying but… she really reminded him of Iruka-sensei so he knows she’ll pick up on it if he does…

“…. I don’t want to, I don’t know you and don’t want to be unarmed”

The boy seemed shocked for a moment at being called unsubtle. Hes hidden from anbu before, from highly trained ninja! How was a random kid supposed to have spotted him...

“Knew I should have henged into somethin…”

The boy points at his headband

“Im a shinobi from the hidden leaf village believe it! My team and I were on a mission in wave when I went through one of ice guys mirrors, then I woke up in garbage”

The boys face scrunches deep into thought as he tries to remember the difference between a city and a village “A city…. So theres no ninja here then? Then I should be able to camp out in that swamp without worrying about attacks..”

"I understand, but have you considered the fact that I'm unarmed as well?" Mae asked, keeping her tone light and un-accusing, "And you're a strange person that snuck into my workplace and could be a risk to me and the others that live here?"

She smiled kindly, voice a lot softer than earlier, "I can't force you, but I would much prefer if you put down your weapons, even if you just place them at your feet."

Mae tilted her head, "I don't believe I've heard of that place before. Well, you're currently in Gotham City, so uh welcome, I guess?"

"Well, there are some ninja, but they only come occasionally," she pauses at what he mutters next, "You are not sleeping in a swamp. Ninja or no ninja there are a lot of other people in this city who could attack you, rogues, criminals, the works."

She considered something that had been on her mind since she first saw the young boy, "If you want you could stay here until your... team get here, if not there are other safe places I can point you towards."

“I wasn’t gonna use anythin… not unless I get attacked first…. Isn’t it enough that they’re in poaches?”

He was about to brag that he can handle any dangers the swamps might offer but the words die on his to tongue as the offer stay here catches the orphan so off guard. He hasn’t stayed in an orphanage since he got his apartment but he still remembers how it felt. The scorn of the caretakers, the ostracization of his peers… the boys eyes glaze over as if he’s a thousand miles away

“What’re the other places…? None of the hotels round here would accept my ryō”

"I just met you though, how was I supposed to know that?" she pauses, really considering his words, "I trust you though, you can keep the weapons."

Mae watches the boy's expression change, the way his eyes glaze over at the mention of staying at the orphanage. She recognized that look, after all she had seen it on a lot of other kids, hell, she had even seen it on herself.

In that moment, somehow, she knew.

"It's completely fine you don't want to stay here, but I promise if you change your mind, our doors are always open, and the staff here are really nice. You can ask any of the kids."

She smiles again.

"Not a hotel, god no, those are almost as unsafe as sleeping outside," she says, horrified, "I have some friends that you can stay with, they're safe, and unable to harm you- even if they wanted to, which they don't."

Mae thinks for a second, "A friend of mine, his name's Haru, I think you'd like him, would you like to stay with him? If not, we can always find someone else."

Naruto shakes himself out of his daze, putting on a thoughtful expression in the hopes that the civilian didnt notice his lapse.

“What makes them unable to hurt me? They under some kind of seal or somethin? Those can be faked ya know…. What’s this Haru guy like?”

Naruto tries to not get excited. Sometimes the other kids in the orphanage would get to be fostered, but nobody ever wanted him so the caretakers never bothered to get him placed with anyone, this Haru guy would probably give him back after all so he didn’t want to get his hopes up
