I need help bad. Idk what to say. I just im not sure if I want to keep trying. It feels like it all amounts to nothing. Im canceling dr appts bc I cant afford them. Im off my medications bc I cant afford them. I have until the 11th to save my car. My power will be off the 13th. I need food. Im exhausted. I just dont know how to keep going when for years I have tried and tried and done nothing but got sicker and sicker and therefore poorer and poorer. I don't think ive reached goal in months, years actually so i just keep drowning more. Im so tired. It feels like noone gives a fuck abt black women, abt poor women, abt disabled women, abt gay women, abt trans women. Feels like my and my wife's existence is just a joke to the universe.

22. Make-out

prompt: a series of kisses that turns into a make-out session

A/N: needy, feverish kisses amirite 🥴

Since Reth has been feeling a little under the weather lately, you decide to make him some lemon and ginger tea, infused with some more healing herbs that Chayne gave you. It’s after his underground shift, so when you bring it to him, he’s in the storage room. When you arrive, he sits up on the sofa, blanket still wrapped around him.

“You need to sleep in a proper bed,” you remark, filling a mug with the steaming drink. You stretch it out to him and he takes it, but you don’t let go completely yet. He looks at you, confused. “A bed like mine, for instance.”

Reth’s already flushed face deepens even further in colour and he clears his throat, properly taking the mug out of your hands. As he takes sip after sip, you sit on the edge of the couch. 

You tell him about your day, and remember you haven’t fully caught him up to speed yet on the whole thing with Ulfe in the Elderwood. With great detail, you tell him about your latest discoveries, helped by Subira and Tamala.

By the time you’re done, he’s finished the whole pot. With a satisfied nod, you take the mug from him and set it aside. 

“I’ll let you get some sleep, then,” you say and tuck him in. He pouts, which makes you chuckle. Of course you'd like to stay, but he needs to rest. 

You place a kiss on his forehead, and he murmurs a protest, puckering his lips at you. You laugh again, endeared by his antics. The rational part in your brain knows you shouldn’t actually kiss him or you’ll risk catching whatever he has. But you decide that one peck won’t be a problem, so you lean in and kiss him goodbye.

“Another,” Reth says when you’re about to stand up. 

“Seriously?” you say with an airy laugh, and sit back down. Leaning in, you give him another kiss. And he asks for another, and another. And who are you to refuse him?

You’ve lost count of how many kisses you’ve peppered his face with, and you decide it’s enough. But when you pull back, Reth starts pushing himself up to follow you and not break the kiss. Before you can protest, his arm snakes around your middle and he flips you over himself so that you end up trapped between him and the back of the sofa.

“What was that for?” you ask, voice barely above a whisper. You want to tease him, but the look on his face shuts you right up.

“You can’t just say something like that–” he says, face flushed and looking at you through half-lidded eyes. “–and expect me to just let you go.”

For a second you have to think back to what he means, replaying your earlier conversation in your head with brows furrowed in concentration. Ah, sleeping in your bed. In hindsight, maybe you shouldn’t say those things to a feverish boyfriend. 

You want to retort something, but his mouth is already on yours. His tongue darts out and you part your lips with a gasp, able to taste the herbal notes from the tea. Now you’re definitely catching this cold, and you’re already here, so what gives? Your arm drapes over his torso as you try to pull him closer. His hand hooks underneath your knee, bringing your leg over his hip, and he kisses you slowly and deeply. Usually, Reth is a bit shy when it comes to initiating like this, so you find it a pleasant surprise for him to be leading in this make-out session. 

His skin burns against yours, and it doesn’t take long for you to feel suffocated, not just from the lack of air. There’s barely any space for you to pull back, with how he’s pressing himself against you, so you tap his shoulder. Reth reluctantly breaks the kiss, and decides to attack your throat instead.

“Oookay,” you say slightly out of breath, pushing himself off of you so you can sit up. He whines, arm draped over his eyes to shade him from the lamp on the side table, swollen lips glistening as he pants. You look down at him for a second and commit the image to your memory; he almost looks like a painting. You’ll definitely tease him about this when he’s back to his usual self.

“I’m so getting sick after this,” you comment with a sigh, and Reth moves his arm to look up at you with a self-satisfied smile. 

“But kinda worth it, right?”

You laugh, and grab a nearby pillow, throwing it at him. You’d never admit he’s right, though.
