A flag and transmasculine term inspired by velociraptors. This post will both coin the term and answer some potential questions.
Anyone who identifies as transmasc or a trans man. This includes but is not limited to binary trans men, nonbinary transmascs, intersex transmascs and trans men, multigender transmascs and trans men, transmascs and trans men that identify with xenogenders and/or neopronouns, and transmascs and trans men who are headmates in systems. This is also inclusive to transmascs and trans men who use “contradictory” labels, including but not limited to transmasc lesbians. As long as you are transmasc, this term is for you.
The purple stripes are for multigender people, the light indigo stripes are for nonbinary transmascs, the blue stripes are for trans men, the white stripes is for genderless/agender transmascs, and the purple circle is for intersex transmascs and trans men. There are three versions included on this post, ordered by increasing simplicity. As we are writing this post, we are having trouble writing IDs/alt text, so anyone willing to help with that has our utmost appreciation.
The first piece of inspiration that led to us developing this term is the velociraptors in the 1990 book and 1993 film Jurassic Park, who played a major role in the plot by changing their sex from male to female. However, this is NOT a binary perisex exclusive term or flag. I will admit that the inspiration for the term came from my experiences as a perisex person, but this is explicitly intersex inclusive. If I see anyone ever using this as basis to exclude nonbinary or intersex people I will not be afraid to call them out. The symbolism that developed from there comes from the velociraptor’s claw — it is always out, poised and ready. Like the velociraptor, we as a community cannot be tamed and held back in favor of more “palatable” queerness. Finally, the fossil itself. Against all odds, fossils have made it to the present day, despite the very likely potential that they could be lost to time, essentially erased. This represents how the transmasc community has persevered through years of hardship and erasure. We can make it through this.
CAN THIS TERM AND FLAG BE PUT ON WIKIS AND ARCHIVES?
Yes, we allow and encourage this term and flag being put on wikis and archives. However, we do not want this reposted on other platforms without credit (preferably a link back to this post, but “a-gender-event on Tumblr” will suffice).
WHO ARE YOU AND WHY ARE YOU COINING THIS?
We are The Event Horixon Library, a system made almost entirely of transmascs and trans men. Collectively, we identify as transmasc agender. We mostly made this flag because the transmasc community was in need of a more inclusive flag (the most well-known one was only coined with perisex trans men in mind). However, as we looked through all the flags, none of them felt right to us, or like they represented both our experience and the transmasc community as a whole, hence why we made this flag. If you want a name and pronouns to add with your credits when adding this term to a wiki or archive (appreciated but not required), we collectively go by Dakota, they/it/he/raptor.
