It makes my entire existence better that Bess is winning.

Like quick aside - I’ve read these books since I was little.

I’ve also hated being fat since I knew the word.

Due to the repetitive nature of the Nancy Drew books (the original series) the three girls are always described right upfront in the story.

And that beautiful, short, gorgeous descriptor “plump” has always sat there.

Yet she is still described as pretty, charming, socially adept, and beloved.

I learned to find these things in myself too.

I LOVE Bess Marvin.

I think the Nancy Drew games do a really good job at portraying grief. I just finished replaying TOT, and I love how Pa is such a chipper character but has these moments of getting caught up in the memory of Ma and delivering some great speeches about the danger of tornados. Joy in CAR shows the anger that can come with grief and the fear of confronting it. Takae shows the guilt of outliving one's child, and I love how the story of the sparrow or taking care of a piece of land help show that. Similarly, Harper in GTH has the line about being "older than [her] older sister and older still today." And who could forget Clara's "Haven't I suffered enough for you?" that speaks to guilt of a different kind- she inadvertently caused Charlotte's death and has had to deal with the guilt and shame for her whole life. It's easy to miss these moments, but they are so unflinchingly human, and I think the ability to capture that is something that has set the Nancy Drew games apart.

nah but i'm serious. i can't remember if bess appeared in MID as a phone friend or anything (i religiously avoided the stupid phone bc it made my game so much worse), but if she didn't....

her last physical appearance alongside george was MED (2014), which is highly regarded as being a bad game. as a phone friend, bess was last in GTH (2013) and if we don't count george's presence both physically and as a playable character in ASH (2011), then her last phone friend appearance was SAW (2010).

like. i think we've seen more of bess (TMB, GTH, possibly MID but i'm blanking) than we have of george. and idk, i just kinda miss nancy having her girls.

also i dont know much about this but that tristan dude is fucking hot and ill say it. he is. hes the hottest dude on the entire show. tunji kasim is right next to him. the guy who played tom swift? hes ALSO up there. the cw can be shit but god theres some hot ppl in their shows

ive never cared abt ndcw but im fascinated in reading what ppl are saying about it now. genuinely sucks to see something you love turn out this way tho, i hope y'all find some way to enjoy it still (even if its just through fanfic)

also idk ive talked to asa about this but like. something tht still sticks w me is the way the show handles grief and emotions in general. minor spoilers for season 2 but i wanna talk abt chet + frank and callie for a sec

i think. i felt a Lot for chet from the moment he confronted callie. as much as i think callie and frank are sweet together, i def couldnt enjoy them as much as i wanted to because it felt like they had this cloud lingering over the relationship? where callie was getting closer and closer to frank and imo kinda just blew off chet mentally. like she calls her cousin in s1 and chet’s just an afterthought she barely addresses before moving onto what she wants to know

like. idk it was very nice to see chet tell her that SHE should have broken up with him sooner? and it was nice to have him address frank and callie in s2 outright and both of them fully listen to him, acknowledge his feelings, and they all move forward together. its just a rly nice addressing of men’s feelings when other shows would have just had chet apologize to them for not just dealing with it

idk man. i just appreciate them listening and not downplaying it at all. he gets to say that things hurt him, and they apologize even though it was never their intention to hurt him bc they still value him as a friend!!! thank u this is all
