since itās a scary time to be trans: refuge restrooms is an app which maps gender-neutral/single-stall restrooms. itās community-mapped, so itās possible you might be the first person to log the restroom locations, but hopefully itāll help some people.
please reblog this post if youāve got trans followers. stay safe.
For my non-trans followers: please consider getting the app just so you can add neutral restrooms to the map when you run across them. Simple way to help.
This is absolutely still a thing, for anyone wondering!
ātik tok is brainrot Iām glad itās getting deletedā YOU are ignoring an early warning sign of fascism bc silly dances and asmr annoys u. tik tok ban is a part of a MUCH bigger bill that indicates any foreign app, if deemed a threat, can be banned if the owner does not sell it. aka the government is mad bc they cannot censor & their capitalist puppet masters are mad they arenāt making money from it. and if ur ok w thatā¦ā¦hm
give it a lil read thru if u want to and then try and tell me itās just about tik tok
Idgaf if you don't want to write essays for school. I don't care if you don't want to write corporate emails yourself. I don't care if you can't draw well, I don't care if you can't write well, I don't care if you just really really want to talk to your favorite fictional character but don't want to RP with a real person because you have social anxiety or whatever
If you're still regularly using generative ai, chatgpt or midjourney or character.ai or literally whatever the fuck, im personally blaming you when my utility prices start going up.
Why would utility prices go up because of ai?
(I am not defending the usage of generative AI/ChatGPT/Character.ai etc etc i am very much against it - I am just curious as to the correlation between using it and utility price surge please don't come at me this is a genuine question)
Happy to help.
ChatGPT uses so much energy that the US is literally reversing course on coal and gas usage to make up for it. In Santa Clara, for example, data centers used 60% of the ENTIRE CITY'S electricity.
ChatGPT uses 1-3 bottles of water for cooling for every query you put into it. This is FRESH WATER, which is evaporated and eventually mostly returns to the ocean, effectively removing a lot of it from our already dwindling fresh water supply on the planet. It also consumes 17 THOUSAND TIMES more electricity than the average American home.
The AI boom wastes so much electricity that we are very immediately risking US cities having to have rolling blackouts just to keep up with the energy demands, as early as NEXT YEAR
Gen AI's water usage is projected to hit 6.6 BILLION meters cubed by 2027
More AI use = more data centers = power drain on local cities = gas, electricity, and water utility prices rise because all of our resources are being funneled into a machine that makes garbage
ur future nurse is using chapgpt to glide thru school u better take care of urself
Yep. This is terrifying. Iāve caught nursing majors, engineering majors, architecture majors relying on ChatGPT to do their homework. These are people who need to know their field well to ensure people donāt die and theyāre letting a glorified algorithm cheat them through school. Itās so dangerous
hey. hi. I work in academia. and there are a lot of student-age folks on this site.
don't do this. don't use genAI. even if your professors give you permission. even if they ask for it or suggest it. if they do anything short of directly requiring it (and I weep, because I've already seen assignments that require it) don't touch that crap. if they do require it, stick it to them. be as maliciously compliant as possible. be a nightmare.
I know it might sound easier right now -- just plug in your assignment and get the answers. you don't care about this class anyway, it's not for your major, you don't see the value of the assignment.
but for your own sake, for the sake of your education and mind, and for the sake of the future world we want to have: learn the stuff. you are not as stupid as the corporate bizzaro kings who want to rule the world think you are, so don't give them reasons to believe it.
and odds are good genAI is gonna give you corrupted info anyway -- more and moreso as the machines cannibalize themselves.
just don't do it. not even "I just do it for XYZ--" no. stop. there is no valid use of generative AI, and even using it for memes or lolz feeds the system and directly feeds the pockets of the people who want to replace you anyway.
Rage reblogging this. Yesterday i got into an argument with one of my college friends who is using chatGPT to do all her work. We're psychology students. The whole group chat laughed my arguments off as if they didn't matter because "she's an artist, of course she's anti-AI" and i had to deal with it. This is a warning. If your therapist graduated in 2023/2024, ask about their opinions on chatGPT. They might lie to you if you ask "did you use it to graduate" directly, but try to make jokes about it and play it cool. If they're into it, DROP OFF. FIND A NEW ONE. Do not trust your brain to someone who didn't bother to use theirs.
But they arenāt documented so they wouldnāt be paā¦..nvm
This is a huge misconception for regular Americans. When the government uses the phrase āundocumentedā theyāre using it incorrectly because if they were truly undocumented then they wouldāve be in system. However these immigrants are in the system and they pay taxes, file tax returns and get no benefits that citizens and legal residents get. They also get to see ICE showing up at their doors because the government has their addresses. Fun fact. āUndocumentedā workers pays $12 billion dollars every year in taxes. https://www.google.com/amp/www.forbes.com/sites/niallmccarthy/2016/10/06/how-much-tax-do-americas-undocumented-immigrants-actually-pay-infographic/amp/
Reblogging for info.
āUndocumentedā just meansĀ āwithout papers,ā i.e. a social security card, valid visa, etc. Theyāre still on databases and whatnot, they just donāt have the documentationĀ that allows them to reap the benefits.
so if it didnāt click- the government is aware of their presence and gladly taking their money under the table while simultaneously promoting the idea that undocumented people are a threat and encouraging hatred and distrust of them itās super messed up, literally the scheme of an evil villain, and itās really happening
š£ undocumented immigrants in Los Angeles contribute more to the GDP than the state of Montana and like 5 other states
I've been real busy lately because it's December and I work at the post office, so of course I am
But that doesn't mean I can't show up with an unprompted PSA
Hey! Have you ever mailed a letter to Santa Claus? Have you ever wondered what exactly happened to that letter? Well wonder no longer! If it had a stamp and a return address, then odds are that it ended up on the USPS's Operation Santa page!
Every year, the USPS collects letters to Santa Claus, and processes them to black out any identifying information. Last names, addresses, things like that. Then, the letters are posted on the Operation Santa webpage and people can adopt the letters.
Once you adopt a letter, you can buy gifts for them, wrap them up, and package them. Then you get a barcode from the website, and bring them to a post office. The clerk there will scan the barcode, which prints out a label with the address on it, and sends out the gift.
It's anonymous on both ends, and is generally just. A really nice thing to do.
I highly recommend it if you have some money to spare this year and want to give a kid a moment of magic this year
It's one of those things that the post office just happened to be positioned to do, and ended up knocking it out of the park. Unfortunately, I don't think they advertise this nearly well enough, and most letters end up going unanswered
Hopefully, a few more will be answered this year
Almost forgot to add a link!
Adopt a child's letter to Santa this holiday season with the USPS Operation SantaĀ® program. Spread holiday cheer and help make a child's hol
babe. I know weāre all going thru a lot rn but I just wanna give u the heads up that sesame streets future is in jeopardy. hbo has chosen not to renew it for new episodes (a series that has been going since 1969) and the residents of 123 Sesame Street no longer have a home :(
hey for everyone talking about jury nullification etc etc: it only works if you lie and say you dont know what it is. if youre chosen for jury duty and they ask you if you know what it is, you say no. here's an article going more in depth, and here's the cgp grey video about it.
like. just so we're clear, it's good to know about, but if you go into a courtroom and start talking about nullification, you could very well have voided your place on that jury. be smart about it š
If you mention you know jury nullfication exists, you will be removed from the jury.
If you mention it later, and they decide you tried to hide that you know it exists, you will be excused from the jury, and it's possible they'll declare a mistrial (have to do the whole thing over from scratch with new jurors)... and they may charge you with contempt of court, depending on how the info comes out.
Jury nullification is legal. But they don't have to tell you about it, and they are allowed to lie about it.
Know the facts BEFORE you get called for jury duty.
...we are going to need a lot of jurors who understand their rights over the next few years.
It's absolutely twisted that they do this. This is why people get put away for murder even when it was blatantly self defense. They try to pick a jury that doesnt know it can disagree
I love you planned parenthood š
If you're someone who can get pregnant and you're scared right now I HIGHLY recommend going to planned parenthood (if you have one near you) and getting the nexplanon implant. It will last the next 4 years and it's like the most effective form of birth control because there's no possibility for user error. They also are really great about financial help if you don't have insurance. There's not much we can do to feel safe right now but knowing it's very unlikely for me to get pregnant under Trump does give me a little peace
Hey Terfs I made the language of this gender inclusive on purpose fuck outta here
In light of Brian Thompson being shot dead on my birthday (šš„³š) I'd like to share a personal story about UnitedHealthcare.
During the peak of COVID, my family all got sick. I couldn't be on my parents' insurance because they were both older and on Medicare. So, I had insurance through my University: UnitedHealthcare.
For some reason, rather than roll-over each year, I got a new plan each year that ended after May and didn't start until August, so I was uninsured for the summer months, but it was a weird situation that the university denied, and told us we were supposed to be insured year-round, it was messy.
Both of my parents went to the hospital, and I got sick too. I had to take care of my pets, and myself, and try to stay alive and keep my pets alive when I was so weak I could hardly move. When my parents came home, my condition got dramatically worse (I think my body knew it couldn't give out, because there was nobody to take care of me, so once my parents were okay, it completely crashed and failed.)
I started experiencing emergency symptoms. It was a bit hard to breathe, my chest hurt, and I was extremely delirious. I wanted to call my insurance to see if I was covered (this was during the summer) and I was connected to some nice person, probably making minimum wage, who told me with caution in her voice that my plan was expired. I had no active insurance, but she urged me to go to an emergency room. I remember saying something to the effect of "You just told me I don't have insurance, I can't go to the hospital, I can't afford it."
She sounded so genuinely worried and scared. I remember she said "You really don't sound good, you sound really sick, please call 9-1-1" and I think I just said "I can't afford it without insurance, don't worry, I think I'll be okay."
And she paused and said "I don't want to hang up the phone with you like this." And it sounded like she was holding back tears. And I don't remember what I said, I think that I would be okay, and I hung up.
I still think about her. I wonder if that phone call haunted her, or if she had dozens of calls like that a day. I wonder if she thinks about it at all, if she wonders if I died after she told me I didn't have insurance and therefore couldn't go to the hospital without incurring a tremendous financial burden. I wonder if she feels guilt or blame-- of course she shouldn't, it wouldn't have been her fault if anything had happened to me. Maybe it's self-centered to wonder if she thinks about it. I'm not the main character and it was just her job. But, still.
I think about how evil it was that we were put in that situation. Because offering year-long continuous coverage through the university plan would maybe cut into profits, maybe not benefit shareholders enough, maybe cut into Thompson's $10 million salary. While his minimum wage administrators have to feel afraid to hang up the phone, because on the other line someone might be dying, and they wouldn't know. While his patients hang up and decide to take their chances rather than put their family through that trauma.
This is UnitedHealthcare. This is Brian Thompson's legacy. This is why, understandably, an entire nation is jubilant that he was gunned down like the vermin he was. I don't care about his widow. I feel pity for his children, despite the fact that they will inherit millions, but I feel more pity for the children of his victims patients who are gone because they didn't want THEIR children to inherit crippling debt. Brian Thompson got what he fucking deserved. I pray that he not be the only one. I pray for continued safety, peace , and anonymity for his killer.
American healthcare is a disease.
Please go to the ER if you need to, even if you don't have insurance.
They have to treat you, regardless if you can pay. And a lot of hospitals have payment programs, or might waive your expenses partially or completely if you're below a certain income (speaking from experience here).
Medical debt is a real and serious problem, but it has a fair number of solutions. Being dead is an eminently less solvable problem.

Mercury Stardust is amazing. Iāve seen a bunch of her shorts on YouTube.
I also have her book about RENTER FRIENDLY home repair & modification. (nobody ever does renter friendly so this is extra great) Itās called Safe & Sound and itās an excellent reference.
But it has more than simply home upkeep & repair for renters. It also has pretty much everything you need to know for renting, including how to apply to rent and then how to get your safety deposit back at the end. And it has little emotional breaks throughout the book for taking care of yourself emotionally because it recognizes this stuff can be triggering for some people.
āWomenā andĀ āPeople who can become Pregnantā are not synonyms
Not all women can become pregnant. Not everyone who can become pregnant is a woman.Ā
It is important for us to use accurateĀ and specificĀ language when talking about important issues, because we always want to include everyoneĀ who is impacted by an issue. Exclusion and erasure are forms of oppression.Ā
Just a heads up, any transphobe that reblogs this with nonsense transphobia will just be blocked. Iām not giving yall bigots a platform. Thanks!
